“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 7 April 2011

We had a fab time, a lovely hotel in a great location, staff all seemed very pleasent, the food was plentiful with a good choice. We had a junior suite which was lovely and clean on arrival and cleaned to the same standard thoughout our stay. The only negatives we found was the price of wine in the restaurant, 15.50 euro's for a bottle of white wine, and when they say that the evening meal finishes at 9.30pm, it does, at 9.30pm on the dot the hot plates are turned off and the food is taken away.
We had a fabulous time and are looking forward to going back very soon.

Good location and good hotel for the price we paid.
Food was good with a good choice we never went hungry.
The hotel staff always had a smile and seemed happy in their job, for us this speaks volumes and made our stay very pleasent.
Rececption desk very helpful when we asked about train and bus routes giving us timetables and detailed maps.
Rooms cleaned daily during stay.

we found the staff to be indiffent and some had egotism
on a plus side the junior and cleaning staff were lovely
the room needs tea making facilites and a fridge
we were astonished to find that the clients had too pay for wi-fi when it was freely available elsewere.
the boiler in the dinning room was set too low and the water was not hot enough to make a proper cup of tea
the pool area was small and therefore would be cramped in the summertime
in general the food was repetitious.

Stayed 23 nights and did not want to leave this lovely little hotel nestled in between the pretty streets of Le Carihuela area of Torremolinos. 10 seconds walk to the paseo maritimo promenade seafront walk, the beach, the shops and restaurants from the gate of the hotel . Also 10 minutes walk to the nearest station Montemar Alto, from which you can get as far as Fuengirola and Malaga, including a stop at Malaga airport. Bus stop much nearer. Both very cheap and frequent.
The Puerto Marina at Benalmadena is 15 mins walk away, and Torremolinos centre 15 mins walk the other way.
I arrived before check in time so my room was not ready but Laurence on reception, who is lovely, helped me to leave my luggage there, I had a walk outside and it was ready within 30 minutes. The room was an excellent size, a double for single use. on the fifth floor with inland view of the town. The best I have ever had when travelling alone, but also the cheapest! My only gripe is the lack of drawers in which to place small items. There was always loads of hot water, rooms cleaned every day and sheets changed every 4 days.
The room had a flat screen TV but on arrival the only English speaking channels were CNBC and BBC World. Myself and another guest spoke to the Manager and then Assistant Manager (the Manager went on leave) about this and we firstly were given Channel 5 and then also BBC1. Other guests had commented about the TV channels on previous reviews but maybe if they had asked in the right way they would have received them also!
The food is maybe not of a 4 star standard but you are not paying 4 star prices here and there was always plenty of choice, salads, soup, hot and deserts. It was constantly being replenished by the chef and I enjoyed it so much that I put on 3 kilos. The drinks are a little expensive, but I guess this is where the hotel can make money as the increase from bed and breakfast to half board is only 2 euros!
The bar area could have a better ambience with small lights and flowers on the tables for example. I did not sample the two male singers, but the flamenco evening was quite entertaining. Overall its not a party-type hotel, but more for a quiet break.
The staffs general knowledge of English is limited with one or two exceptions, but they were all friendly and helpful. The Manager let me have a late check out as I departed on my birthday and had to travel back to Cyprus , where I currently live, via London. She is a very nice lady who seems to run the hotel well. Also Monica, her assistant is excellent, and Jose ( without the beard, as there are two with that name) was extremely helpful on reception especially with information about buses, trains and places to go.
There are loads of other towns to visit easily by public transport, and I personally love Benalmadena, especially the Marina and the Paloma Park, and the City of Malaga, both easily reached from here.
I would stay here again most definately. Its the perfect location for a relaxing break at a fantastic price.
Having worked in the tourism industry in Cyprus, I wish the tourist board of Cyprus would pay a visit to this area to learn a few lessons about quality, cleanliness, good service and value for money!

I spent a few days there in early February and had a super stay, the reception staff were very welcoming and when I asked for a room that got the afternoon sun they arranged this for me no problem. The variety of food in the restaurant was great .. but the poached pears in red wine were to die for!! Makes my mouth even water now!! .. The beach is a block away and the setting is perfect .. yes .. all in all I really enjoyed my stay and plan to go back again soon!

This is our second short visit to the Roc Lago Rojo, and it was as good as our visit same time last year. We found the food to be a good selection, again as last year, at breakfast the juice out of the machine was terrible, why serve it? Strangely enough, the coffee was nice out of the machine. The hotel was pretty busy, but the chefs did a good job of keeping the tureens topped up. Good time again. Luckily the weather was pretty good. Went on the train to Fuengirola on the Sunday but hadn't been there 5 minutes when we were pestered by timeshare touts. Went to the Bar Cristal for a drink just along from the hotel and asked for Rioja wine, we were charged 9 euros for 2 glasses, so if you go, just ask for the house wine!
