This is a good basic hotel. Not 4 star but a good 3 star. Always clean and tidy. Staff mostly friendly and helpful. Out the back door of the hotel was an easy access to the long promenade and beach. The hotel caters mostly for an older crowd so would suit retired couples. That said there was entertainment of sorts every night. The bar area was nice and it spilled out onto the pool terrace. Happy hour with 2 drinks for the price of one was very welcome. We got a good price travelling with thetraveldepartment.ie. Food was plentiful with a buffet style for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Room Tip: All rooms are suites. Rooms on floor 1 are the noisiest so go for a higher floor.

My husband and I have just returned from yet another blissful visit to the Lago Rojo. We have now visited the hotel several times and again we were not disappointed. Receptionists were courteous and assisted us in getting to our rooms very quickly. Rooms are extremely clean and maintained to a high standard (in our opinion). The hotel was very busy during our stay, and at times the restaurant was very busy. However we found that if we went a little later than the opening times, it was much better and more relaxed. Food was of a good standard, and there is plenty of choice. As dishes ran out, chefs were quick to replenish. If something wasnt there, you only had to ask one of the waiting staff and they would help. The salad bar is fantastic as is the sweet selection. I cannot praise this hotel enough and hope to visit again very soon.

Room Tip: Street side rooms get the sun in the afternoon. Leave your air conditioning on as your room will ge...

We have just returned from our first visit to the Costa del Sol region in Spain and absolutely fell in love with the area. We started in Portugal working our way thru so unfortunately we only had a 3night stay at the resort. We lucked up and found the resort in a Sky Mall magazine with Air Europa and when we arrived in the Torremolinos area it was so easy to find. We did not have a reservation but took our chances and went there and got a junior suite room. Didn't get a room with a view due to the resort being fully booked but we still had a lovely "large" room with balcony. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how reasonable the prices were that was inclusive of tax and breakfast with dinner. It was a great price and location for our stay and was able to get out and do day trips to Ronda and Marbella. Location to the beach was fantastic. maybe 2 blocks, a straight shot and plenty of restaurants and shops to please everyone. Still can't believe the cost of things in the area. Too good to be true. Loved the young man "William" who I originally met at the front desk who was very helpful with getting our luggage to the room for us and helping find the parking garage. There was also a very nice lady, wish I remembered her name, but she was the one who found a room for us when we thought it was sold out. She answered all of our questions and just very inviting. Bar area and the area around the pool was also very nice and they had music playing during the evenings so you could sit out and enjoy a night cap before bedtime. Food, can't complain at all. Breakfast and dinner both we enjoyed every day and night, plenty to choose from and the wine selection was nice and reasonable. The staff worked hard and got whatever we needed. Overall just a great place and for the price you can't beat it. Would return and recommend to all! Wish I was still there!

I have written many reviews for the Roc Lago and have always been full of praise! My husband and I returned from a 10 day visit yesterday(19th Sept 2011) and to say the bubble has burst is putting it mildly. We had stayed at the hotel 10 times in the last few years and always had highly complimentary remarks to make. This time?not so.
As frequent guests we are able to book through the Roc Class system and gain 10% discount .Fifth floor sea view room etc etc .Upon arrival we were told that we could not have our pre booked room until the following afternoon!!!So much for preferential treatement. We were given a room facing the road on the 4th floor and while adequate we were unable to unpack as we were not prepared to redo the packing the following day.A couple of hours later we spoke to the Manageress ,who apologised but said she coudl do nothing and that these things happen and when we requested a reduction we were offered 10 euros for the inconveniance !!As it was stil lclassified as high season and other hotels and apartments were fully occupied we decided that we would stay, basically we had no choice and as it had always been so good in the past then a little hiccup could be overlooked.
The food has deteriated a lot since out last visit in May of this year. The hot breakfast were cold and the choice in the evening was poor at very best. One night-Gala Dinner on a wednesday was very nice apart from that it was mainly PORK,chicken thighs in various guises and pigs trotters, and something called pork children! We think the staff has been cut back to such a level that the chefs are having to cook food much earlier than required and then it is put under the heat lamps .They are obviosly being given a much smaller budget for the food and it shows!

All the bar staff and restaurant staff are working so hard with one exception and that guy should be retired!head receptionist is very aloof, maybe becuase we were not the right nationalty.Such a shame as we have had many happy weeks there and though we shall return to the area it will not be to this hotel .We had paid high season prices for the accomodation and on day three of our holiday the hotel adjusted meal times to mid season!!Why then did we have to pay high season prices?

Althoug hwe did complain about the food when we paid our bill -we were told that our comments would be passed to the Manageress-she had in past years been visible most of the time -in 10 days we saw her in the building.

If they went back to their previous high standard then we would return but during our holiday we booked an apartment for two trips next year and we could not be happier

All inclusive was the the slogan and thats what you got. What they dont say is that it is like an old fashioned holiday camp without the trimmings. Red coats carry a smile this hotel lacks this. You have a choice of 1/2 week breaks, we would advise a long weekend(2 days). Staff in the grab all dining room were very courteous but anywhere else, watch out. Beware of the Argertenian barman especially when he's under pressure and watch out for the coach loads of Spanish over 55's which descend from the mountains and takeover. Would not go back here but would choose another location where the reviews are honest.

Pros:
LOCATION - this hotel is minutes from the beach and in the center of all of the bars, restaurants, and shopping.
Clean and good hot water for the showers.
The air conditioning was acceptable and we were cool in the room.
The cleaning staff were very friendly.
Cons:
STAFF are indifferent and grumpy. Most of them are older (50+) so I really don't blame them for being jaded because they are dealing with tourists for years. It's time to hire some younger people who know how to smile and have a desire to interact and be helpful. They should start by replacing the lady manager who sets the tone which is decidedly the hotel vs. the guests. This invisible line is palpable and the one time I did ask for some advise, I quickly learned that the staff are not there to help me - they are strictly there to collect money and run a hotel. If anything is amiss don't expect ANYTHING from her or her staff.
The ATMOSPHERE is absolutely gloomy. No music in the bar or pool area.
Too many penny-pinching Dutch tourists who sit around the pool while smoking and murmuring in low depressing tones.
POOL - slightly larger than a bathtub and the "grassy" area is mostly dirt and cigarettes.
"HAPPY HOUR" - the hotel reduces their price so that it is the same price as all of the other hotels and bars on the prom - why bother attending happy hour if you can drink for less anywhere else and be served by cheerful restauranteurs. If you are lucky, you may get served by a staff member during this hopping hour OR they may chose to ignore you and then you have to go to the bar and beg for a drink. It is obvious they don't work on tips and there is no manager ensuring that all guests are happy and get good service.
ENTERTAINMENT - the kids club woman really tried, but with gloomy atmosphere and poor attendance it was really hard to put on a show. When we checked in the manager never even mentioned the kids club and there is no events calendar posted. The other entertainment (for the adults) is so pathetic that people don't even come to view it (even though it's free) during the dance show, people got up and left because it was so poor and amateurish. It was really pathetic.
Bar - NO atmosphere, no music, unfriendly bar staff, unfriendly patrons.
FOOD - no choices for young children. My child struggled every day to find something to eat. There was chips every day, but who wants to eat that every day. Besides lack of child friendly food, the food in general was very average/poor and I would not recommend
full board. Since it is close to all the restaurants eat out and try to avoid this gloomy hotel.
BEDS - I think a bed of nails in a haunted house would have been more comfortable.
