Nice beachfront hotel/apartment

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Feb 2019
Nice small beachfront hotel/apartment in La Carihuela. Room decor was old-fashioned Andalucian style in a good way with wooden furniture and brown tile floors. Small kitchenet for limited cooking and preparing snacks. Room was very clean and had fresh feeling. It was a bit chilly at night until I learnt how to use the heater properly.

Wi-fi was good enough for Netflix streaming. TV was very small and had complex instructions.

Balcony view from my room was to street side. Small plaza was filled with restaurant tables in lunch and dinner times and it was quite lively. Balcony door was soundproof so noice was no problem. It was very nice to enjoy afternoon sun and watch people from the balcony.

Reception hours are limited and staff was not overly friendly except for the cleaning lady. Hotel feels like it is run with pride.

La Carihuela beach is right around the corner and hotel is perfectly situated for relaxing holiday. Not a perfect place If you plan to make a lot of day trips as there is some distance to bus and train station.

I would definitely come back anytime.

We had a sea view apartment on the 2nd floor for 2 weeks over Christmas. The view from the room and balcony were superb and the sun rose directly in front of you every day.
The room was ok being about the normal size of a hotel room. We had 2 single beds but you couldn't push them together because of the design of the headboard. Consequently there was a gap between the beds. There was plenty of drawer space but they were small and wouldn't even take T shirts. There is a large wardrobe which has a safe in but you pay extra for the safe.
The things we did not like are the bathroom and kitchen In the kitchen is a small sink but no draining board to put the washed dishes on. The only place to put them is on to the electric hob which is right next to the sink !!!
The bathroom is very small with a tiny shower cubicle. The shower is OK but does tend to run very hot or very cold during a shower. It is impossible to sit on the toilet and face forward. There is just no room and you have to sit at an angle. Not good.
The cleaning lady was very pleasant and liked to chat to improve her English but we found that the cleaning was what we call a 'lick and a promise' i.e. a quick whizz around.
One last thing that concerned us. There is no phone and no-one on reception at night so what do you do in an emergency ? How do you get a doctor or the fire brigade ?
Although the view was fantastic, the location perfect, the staff very nice, we won't be going back because of the kitchen/bathroom.

Room tip: Sea View 2nd floor

We have just returned from a week staying at the Apartamentos Plazamar and could not have had a better break, the girls on reception were very helpful and friendly along with the lady who cleaned the room. The apartments were spotless and had every thing you need although the kitchen is a little small, we had a room over looking the the square so were able to watch people enjoying there meals below.
I had booked a hotel when we return in February but have cancelled that and booked these apartments instead with a sea view this time, Plenty restaurants to chose from the minute you step out the door along with numerous little supermarkets, all in all great accommodation in a great location

Very nice and central We had a balcony overlooking the square which was very nice indeed. We would have preferred a sea view but none available Very comfortable apartment with very nice staff. The apartment is right on the beach and in the middle of restaurants and bars

We arrived late (midnight) and had to get key by ringing attic room. We were a bit worried when travelling but need not have worried. Man arrived with key very quickly and showed us to the room. Room was small but spotless and cleaned every day apart from Monday, we were there 5 days. View was amazing and staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was very comfy and plentiful hot water for showers. We also had a very late flight when we left and asked if the room could be kept until 19.30 (normal check out 12.00) and they allowed us to keep it, made journey home much better with clean shower. All in all it was a very good break and we will definitely be staying again. Thanks from Maggie and Steve

Room tip: Best to have Sea View to enjoy location and best to be on top floor

My wife and I have just come back from a week here and we had a lovely time. We had a room overlooking the square (Apartment 2) which was busy and great if you like to feel part of what's going on and people watching! The room was spotless, fresh towels every other day and clean sheets once a week. The soundproofing they boast about on their website from the windows (actually patio type doors) is very effective but we have lived in Spain and got used to the noise of people so usually left the doors open. We had a small balcony to sit on and it caught the sun late afternoon/early evening so we tended to sit out with a glass of wine and watch the world go by. There was some noise at about midnight and again at about 8.30-9 in the morning from the bar underneath us but it only lasted whilst staff were either putting away or getting out tables and chairs, after that, it was just people noise from outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, spoke excellent english (if you can't speak Spanish) and let us use the room free of charge on our last day as out flight wasn't until late at night. The apartments on the other side of Plazamar do have a great view of the sea but don't get the late afternoon/evening sun and are affected by the onshore wind at times, so it depends what you are looking for. There are some excellent restaurants and bars all around and the sea is 2 mins from the entrance to Plazamar, just around the corner. A visit to the La Bateria Park is worth the walk as the views from the top are fantastic, you can also walk for miles along the promenade in either direction and there are plenty of bars/cafes/restaurants to choose from if you need a refreshment stop!

Room tip: Room overlooking the square for people watching or the other side for sea views (bit more expensive)
