The Alhambra is not the only place worth a visit on the top of Sabika's hill : with its lovely (if a little bit forgotten and overlooked) gardens, pools and fountains, it's a great place to chill out and rest after the rat race that is visiting the Alhambra sometimes. And moreover, the Carmen de los Martires has a free entrance! Entrance from 10:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 during Summer. Be sure not to be late when it's closing, if not you'll be locked inside and will have to jump above a wall with the bins (true story).Fore more go herehttp://alhambracadabra.blogspot.com.es/2012/07/carmen-de-los-martires.html

After the crowds at the nearby Alhambra, the Carmen de los Martires is a lovely cool park. The park has fountains, shady paths, garden follies, and peacocks. It would be a perfect location for a paseo on a hot afternoon. It also has a beautiful view over the valley and up to the mountains.

If you are in the area (up the hill, near the main entrance to the Alhambra) this is a lovely garden to get away from the hassle of all the tourist coaches going past. But for some reason you can't get to it from the main road, where the gate is padlocked. Instead you have to follow the signs to the Falla Auditorium and then go up to the gate at the end of the road.

It is a pretty, if slighly neglected, garden and we spent a peaceful hour or so in there during the early afternoon - and then found ourselves locked in! Luckily, there was an event going on in the house and some very well-dressed women came from that and insisted on being let out, so we were saved. Otherwise I think we'd have been stuck until 5pm when it reopened.

This place is incredible. Its like a time warp, back to times of horses and carriages !. We found it really nice and would love to visit it again.
