Description: At the foot of The Alhambra one can find the restaurant Ruta del Azafran. It is in the incomparable setting of the Paseo de los Tristes right in the Albaicin, which is perfect for the traveller that loves to soak up history. Our kitchen, surrounded by this extraordinary scenery, can be found in the same mix of cultures alternating between Arab flavors, international foods and the traditional tastes from Andalucia. It's worth to mention our Tuna Tataki, the Cous-Cous (chicken, lamb or vegetable), Duck Magret, Moorish Pie and also undoubtedly our homemade desserts. All of this accompanied by the best local wines, cavas from the Alpujarra mountains and a special selection of Rioja and Ribera del Duero wines. The restaurant Ruta del Azafran offers different menus for groups that are carefully put together by our chef to provide the most exquisite flavors. All of our meats are Halal and we are ready to accept any request with respect to this. We have a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Our kitchen professionals who make up a highly qualified team assemble all of the dishes in the restaurant. We invite you to visit us: to enjoy the surroundings and taste our exquisite dishes.

“the food is even better than the view of the Alhambra!”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

This is an excellent restaurant, which i strongly recommend you visit if you're in the Granada area.

We were seated quickly upon arrival (we didn't reserve a table). Bread, oil and drinks were provided quickly while we looked at the menu, which is available in English. I opted for the Harrira (Moroccan lentil soup) and the pretty lady chose goats cheese and pear in a sherry reduction. Both were delicious. The main courses were a perfectly cooked lamb dish with seasonal vegetables, and a very tender pork dish. For dessert, we shared a chocolate tart, followed by very good coffee. The recommended red wine was an excellent complement to the food

The service was friendly and not invasive. The waiter spoke excellent English. The view from the window of the restaurant looks up to the Alhambra, which is spectacular at night.

The meal was also good value for money (about 60 Euro). All together, a great experience that I hope to repeat some day...

“Good resturant, great location”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

We were looking for somewhere to eat on Sunday night and found many places closed. We saw Ruta del Azafran while we were walking back from the Alhambra so we thought we'd try it for an evening meal.

We all had starters and mains and wine for €25 per head. I had a steak which was very good, but I found it too salty for my taste. To be honest, the best part is the view. You look directly up at the illuminated Alhambra so the food is almost secondary. The service was smooth, friendly and helpful.

I was just disappointed that all the bars were closed as I had a raging thirst from the salty steak and no chance for a beer to wash it down.

“Good food, nice staff”

We had a nice diner here, the food was good even as the service. The ambiance is dated and the windowsize is aquarium scale (little minors).

“Close but no cigar!!”
Reviewed 28 February 2014 via mobile

Nice decor and atmosphere, menu is good and the wine list is nice. Unfortunately the service was not to our expectations and the food was undetacheived. Safron salmon with no safron and under cooked Cod. Said yes to desert menu and finally asked to pay since our demand had not been met after 45 min (why ask?)No smile, no effort althought we spoke spanish.

“A mixture of excellent and some disappointing aspects”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

On the positive side, this is a delightfully located restaurant, with clear views towards the Alhambra fort, with a modern design, and a good menu. The food was good and imaginative, and very tasty. There was a nice complementary "pre-starter", and the starters were very good. Wine was a reasonable price, and there is a list by the glass which is good, although it's difficult to know what to choose unless you are knowledgeable. Sadly this place is let down by the service. There seemed to be some sort of problem going on when we there, and the staff could certainly have been more engaging. The pork with bean risotto was good but let down by over application of crushed sea salt, which I had to scape off to prevent it completely overpowering the dish. Two of our party's main courses arrived together, but the third person waited at least a further 10 minutes before their roast duck arrive. Although she had asked for it medium rare, it was still red throughout. They asked if it was OK, but when she replied "no", had to wait a further 5-10 minutes. This is really not acceptable for a restaurant with commendably high culinary ambitions and main course prices at 15 Eu. Maybe we were just unlucky, but I doubt I would recommend this on the basis of our experience. Good food and a more enjoyable experience overall in Granada is not hard to find.
