I am writing this review at 3:00 am from the hotel. After being up all night from the street noise I felt obligated to warn other travelers to be aware of this hotel. The location of the hotel and the room is very good but there is something wrong with the design of the windows. Our room does not face the busy street and the windows themselves seem thick and double paned yet every sound comes into the room as if they are open. I slept with my Bose headphones on and had some relief but it is nonstop noise. The staff is friendly although very inexperienced to be working in a 5 star hotel. The room is pretty nice and of a nice design but if you want to get any sleep ( and I am not a light sleeper after living in new York and Chicago) I would stay away from this place!

Good afternoon:

first of all thank you for your review, it is going to help us to improve.

The 25th of march, it was the football match Spain vs Czech Republic in Granada, and that is the reason why it was a noisy night. As you write, we are placed in the main center Gran Vía de Colón, and sometimes when it is happening a special event in the city, although the windows are double, something can be heard.

In any case, our Maintenance Department has been informed about your appreciation, and all the rooms are going to be checked.

Best Regards:

This hotel is definately not 5* standard as in Spanish standards. My husband and I normally stay in 5* hotels and this one leaves a lot to be desired! On arriving we got a room with drain odours emanating from the bathroom, which by the way has no door!
On request we were moved to a better room but still no bathroom door (but at least no smell). The feeling we got was that the hotel is being run on a shoe string and the same small group of staff cover all functions. Very centrally situated but the noise level all night is incredible, police sirens going all night and as its a busy town with lots of students, one can hear people talking and shouting on the streets well into the very early hours of the morning! We travelled by car and the hotel was very difficult to find as it has no signs on the way. Once there and after going round and round we had to get a taxi to direct us and follow him.On arrival the car was taken and parked for us and on departure we were total that the fee was 25 euros a day. If you are going for 4 days its cheaper to fly there! The room and bathroom had the bare essentials unlike a typical 5* hotel. A very small tv and no draws to put clothes in. Just a very small wardrobe!
Will definately not be staying there again and I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a 5* hotel standard.

Dear Guest:

first of all I thank you your comments, because it helps us to improve.

The design in the rooms without door in the baths, it is because of the interior designers; there are people who love it, and people who do not. It is something we may not change.

My staff is very helpful and that does not means that we cover all functions, we want to make the client feel as at home, and we consider the client part of our family.

As you indicate in your comment, we are in the main center, in front of the Cathedral and next to the Albaycin, we are placed in Gran Vía, number 20, which sometimes is noisy but our windows have double-glassed and our building is soundproof.

I apologize about our 32’’TV, and I am very sorry about the feeling that they are small.

Our design wardrobes have no drawers, the interior designers decided like that, because of the vogue, and that is the reason why we cannot change them.

The archeological remaining, we found, did not let us to build the garage, so we decided to restore them and make them worthwhile, showing them to our clients, visitors. We have a “nevero” from the XVIth Century, the snow was brought from Sierra Nevada for maintaining the food fresh. And an Arabian wall from XIIth Century.

I am sorry for all the inconveniences, and I would like to thank you again your impressions.

Best Regards:

This is a wonderful hotel with in easy walking distance of many of the local tourist attractions. All the staff were attentive, helpful and pleasant. If we had any problems they were sorted out quickly and politely. We stayed in one of the small suites in the eaves of the hotel. From our room there were wonderful views of the Sierra Nevada, the Alhambra and the cathedral. There is a fabulous roof top bar with even better views. Our room was quiet considering we were in the centre of the town and Spain never sleeps. There is a glass floor in the hotel lobby with exposed archaeology. The downstairs bar/dining room is full of pop memorabilia including the Beatles. There is a spa in the hotel with a hot pool - it looked good but we didn't use it.
We had a wonderful holiday in the Fontecruz, Granada and would definitely recommend anyone to stay there.

The room and bathroom are very nice. Bed Awesome! Room was fairly quiet but there are a lot of party people in Granada - seemed mostly to be young people. Upscale feel. Loved the English speaking channels after being in 3 hotels with only CNN Europe.
The location is good - about 2-3 blocks to the bus stop to catch the bus going to Alahambra and other tourist areas. Only a 6-8 block walk to the "restaurant" section of Granada. We got very good recommendations from the front desk for restaurants as we had hit our fill of Spanish food and wanted a good steak for dinner.
Nice bar at the top with a great view of the Cathedral.

I give the Fontecruz the five star rating with some reservation. Relative to other great, five-star hotels of the world, this does not compare. Efforts of the staff, comfort, and new accomodations at a very reasonable price make this a five star in my book. Do not expect this to be the Alfonso XIII or the Westin Palace. Expect a genuine warmth and a desire to please.

They cannot do enough to please you at this hotel. Staff was responsive to email requests prior to arrival. The rooftop bar is a wonderful with very reasonable prices for two bottles of champagne.

The rooms are new and fantastic. We were concerned about the glass shower doors, but that proved not to be an issue. Room 205 was arranged where you could barely squeeze into the shower—yes, I am a 6 foot 210 pound American. The other four rooms we booked were fantastic.

Breakfast at this hotel was very nice.

We were extremely satisfied considering the reasonable price and the engaged staff.

Stayed here on business for two nights. Was greeted like a long lost relative on arrival which set the tone for the level of service/care I could expect. Very impressed. Also impressive was the glass-floored reception area showcasing the Moorish excavations. A wonderful feature. Finally, the roof terrace has one of the best views in Granada and well worth popping in for a cervesa.

Others have commented on the door-less bathrooms. These didn't bother me as a solo traveller, though I was still pleased that the "throne-room" did have a door...

Only small niggle was the noise from the central aircom unit (via the toilet "window") on the first night. Bizarrely this didn't bother me on the second night, so who knows!

I would definitely stay in the Fontecruz again when I am in town on business and can recommened it to anyone looking for just about the best located hotel in town with some of the friendliest staff I have ever met anywhere.
