“NIce tourist hotel and good value”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Great location, clean and tidy. Some noise in our room from the reception desk and outside bar (though the double glazing reduced this enormously.) If you are going to the Alhambra - good location to either walk up or catch the bus. Also for morning Alhambra visitors, nothing opens before 9am so take breakfast in the hotel - it is good value and swiftly served.
Main negative is the internet - signal is great but the speed is so slow, in three days I actually connected briefly twice of an evening when everyone was at dinner. The hotel does have a computer you can easily use but this is not adequate for business travellers. The staff seem mystified when you say you cant connect.

Room Tip: any room not on the central courtyard would get less reception noise.

Dear KarenCan,
Thank you for choosing Hotel Monjas del Carmen and your comments.
This summers we have invested big amount of money to improve internet and phone connectivity in the hotel, to ensure high speed, strength and security. We steel waiting for internet company to provide Plaza Nueva Area with better services. Nevertheless, we also offer internet connection by cable.
Best regards and we hope to see you again.

It would be difficult to find a better location. The Alhambra and the Cathedral are within walking distance. But if one does not wish to walk, buses to all parts of the city have stops nearby. The hotel is small with no gym or swimming pool which was not a problem for us as we are usually too busy sightseeing. The room was very clean and quite large for this price range. The friendly staff were very helpful. Some of them had very fluent English and were very savvy about the type of tourist experience different travellers want. Their advice was invaluable and they arranged tickets and transport when required. As it is a new hotel there were no plumbing or electrical issues that seem to plague some of the other hotels. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant as the options outside were more tempting. There are innumerable cafes and restaurants on the streets around the hotel where we had breakfast, lunch and dinner at surprisingly low cost. We stayed for ten days and had one of our best hotel experiences.

Dear Reaky,

Thank you for your comments and for choosing Hotel Monjas del Carmen. After many comments about breakfast, we have decided to change into Continental Breakfast (buffet). Moreover, we have implemented our internet connectivity to ensure better quality and faster connection.
Best regards and we hope to see you soon

We arrived at the Hotel easily after following the instructions they emailed us . It is in a very convenient area close to the Alhambra and restaurants . Ana on reception and was extremely helpful and as other guests have said gave us a map and directions to collect our pre booked tickets. The one problem we encountered was the car parking, we were asked to park down on level 2, my husband set off but was gone for what seemed a very long while Ana checked on him and realised that our rental car which was quite large had a terrible turning circle and gave him a spot on level 1. Our room was on the top floor as we had requested , overlooked the front of the Hotel and was very quiet. We had breakfast next door and found the toast coffee and juice fine and adequate for us. We only stayed one night but found the Hotel clean and comfortable and would certainly recommend it.

We spent two nights at this three star hotel. First the positive points - the front desk personnel (especially Ana) were very friendly and helpful, the location of the hotel is excellent-walking distance to many attractions including the Cathedral , the Royal Chapel, and the Albaycin, the breakfast (both continental and English) we considered a good value for the money, the air conditioning in the rooms was excellent, the lobby area was very nice, the parking was tight but available. The negative? Mold in the shower, even though when you opened the room door you were hit with the potent smell of cleaning fluids.

We thought this hotel was excellent value for the location. You can walk to everything from here and it's very near to the airport bus (catch it opposite the cathedral). Despite being in a lively part of town, the room was quiet thanks to the sound proofing.

Top notch hotel with all the amenities you need. Slept easily and felt very comfortable during our stay. Fantastic restaurant attached was also a plus.

Staff were friendly and held our luggage for us for a few hours after we checked out.

If you need to collect your alhambra tickets (if you've pre-booked) go out of the hotel, and onto the main street. Turn left and a few doors on your left is an Alhambra gift shop. You can print your tickets there if you've pre-booked.

The room that we had on the 3rd floor was very nice. It was in the back overlooking a pedestrian walkway and was pretty quiet. Also the modern windows really shut out any unwanted city noise.
The room seemed like it was recently renovated or just kept in very good condition. Very clean contemporary décor and a very sharp bathroom. Nice touches like the high intensity personal reading lamps mounted on the headboard. I felt that this hotel was a very good value at 92 euros a night. The location is right off the Plaza Nueva but down a narrow side street and away from all the urban chaos. I hope your experience is as good as mine was.
