“Great Location for the Alhambra”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014

The Guadalupe Hotel is as close to the Alhambra as you can get without staying at one of the two hotels actually inside the Palace. That location made it possible to start very early and then actually take a short break and go back into the Palace grounds which worked very nicely for my family. The rooms appeared to have been recently refurbished, were reasonably large and well furnished with a very comfortable bed. Parking is in the Alhambra parking lots, which is reasonably close. The major drawback is it is up on the hill with the Alhambra so going to the city center was a bit of a walk, and coming back uphill we all voted for using taxis.

We had time to kill before an evening show in the Generalife gardens and went into the bar of this hotel. If the rest of the place and staff is as good as the bar area, it's highly recommended. Our waiter was charming and unflappable, even when the place became really full and he was working on his own. Excellent coffee and generous amounts of brandy to accompany. They also do a good variety of snacks, though we just stuck to the liquid stuff. Of course the position is brilliant, just opposite the entrance to the Alhambra.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Guadalupe for two nights during our quick visit to Spain in June. The hotel was VERY easy to find coming from Malaga, even in the middle of the night. The hotel, as others have mentioned, is literally directly across the street from the entrance/ticket collection area of the Alhambra. To get to the center of town, it's an easy walk there but quite a hike coming back, this could be problematic for older folks or if the weather is hot. There is a shuttle bus that will take you to Plaza Nueva and back, which is convenient if you do not want to walk. Also a taxi is about 5 euros from Plaza Nueva.

We arrived in the middle of the night and the front desk manager on duty was wonderful. He explained the parking situation and gave us other information. Our room had a nice terrace, which was lovely for sitting outside and enjoying a bottle of wine. Our room was nicely appointed and clean, the only gripe we had was the bed- it literally felt like we were sleeping on a wooden plank, which I suppose is fine you like a VERY hard mattress but for us it was extremely uncomfortable! If the hotel could just update that aspect, I would say the room would be near perfect.

The breakfast was convenient and plentiful each morning. Overall Hotel Guadalupe was a great find, especially for the price and we found the staff to be very nice and helpful. We would stay there again.

The Hotel abuts both the grounds and the secure parking lot of the Alhambra. As a result if you are in town for the Alhambra and\or driving to Granada, Guadalupe is the place to stay. You have easy ingress and egress to the hotel and parking right off the highway, and this makes life a whole lot easier than would be the case otherwise. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. A 5 minute roll downhill has you at the Alhambra ticket counters and entrance; get your tickets through the hotel unless you have booked in advance or have a long stay in Granada. Walk lazily downhill for another 10-15 minutes through wonderfully landscaped paths and you are in the heart of Granada. The hotel provides the usual breakfast feast and other meals but most people end up eating out anyway. Use the day\night shuttle or a taxi to get back to the Hotel if a steep uphill walk is not your cup of tea. But this will be the case for most places you choose to visit or stay at in Granada unless you are on the main thoroughfare but its bustling with shops, offices, eateries, and hordes of students. If you like to walk or hike, ask at the reception about climbing the hill across the hotel (and behind the Alhambra); you should have a pretty spectacular panoramic view of Granada.

Room Tip: I'd suggest grabbing a room with a view (no pun intended) if you can; we didn't have that ch...

Nicely located at the top of a hill above the city center, we found the Hotel G. a comfortable little perch for three nights from which to stage our exploration of the Alhambra grounds next door and Granada below. We asked, and found there were two rooms on the 4th floor with ample terraces. Good call; turned our smallish standard double into a junior suite with a balcony room under poplar trees and lush greenery available to us to enjoy the sunset or stars all times of day and night. Definitely ask for a 4th floor terrace room.

The hotel location is great and a value being so close to the world heritage site. We found it easy to amble over to the Alhambra grounds any time of day, and there was a nice selection of restaurants and shops in the cluster of things at the top of the hill which provided all sorts of conveniences. Some might find the hubbub of activity at the site entrance there a little off-putting, but we did not find it too noisy or overrun but rather well organized and green, and a great opportunity for people watching from our terrace vantage in the afternoon. In any case, most everyone retreats down the hill into Granada by dinner time to leaves our corner of the world quiet and leafy and totally strollable. Also: olive orchards right behind the hotel can be reached from a stairway a little down the street and make for great sunset walks.

Room Tip: 4th floor has two terrace rooms that really add to the experience.

The hotel is located opposite the car park to the Alhambra, so great for the visit!
It’s about a 30 minute walk into Granada, but be warned on the way back its quite a steep trek, though there are buses.
If you head into Granada by foot, a tip is to take the road to the left of the Alhambra, and not the footpath through the restaurant at the Alhambra main entrance.
You might see this path when you are at the top of the Alhambra looking over to the cathedral, and down to Plaza Nueva.
You can’t see from here that the path down is big cobbles, and difficult to walk on.

The hotel décor is quite dated, though it was generally clean.

Reception area is small with a few seats and a small bar.

Check in for our tour group was relatively quick, the tour guide slowed things down a little!

We had a room on the 3rd floor, room 311, which I would say had been recently refurbished and more modern décor applied.
The bed was clean and ok comfort wise.
The room had good wardrobe space, a safe (3 euros per day – have to get the activation ‘key’ from reception) and a TV and minibar (see photos).

The bathroom was still ‘old’ though the floor had been re-done in laminate flooring.
The shower curtain rail was let’s say rusty, and there was a crack in the toilet bowl.
Towels were clean, though a little hard.
The bathroom had complimentary shower gel and shampoo.

Breakfast was ‘ok’ quality and a reasonable selection / choice, bacon, scrambled eggs and sausage, cereals, cold cheeses x 2, cold meats x 3, fruit salad, a bowl of natural yoghurt, melon and pastries.
The bread and pastries were ‘big’.
There was one quite fast toaster and two coffee machines.

Dinner was a set menu which each of our tour group had selected prior to arriving at the hotel for our stay.
Starters were vegetable soup/aborigine moustache, Mains were fish or pork, and the desert either fruit or profiteroles.
The quality was ok, and portion size satisfactory. Unfortunately someone in our group must have forgotton what they had ordered, which meant I ended up with a sorry looking portion of pork, the others I had seen being served looked a much leaner cut!

Overall the hotel is ok, 2 or 3 star in my opinion.

Room Tip: Rooms on 3rd floor have been refurbished

The Guadalupe Hotel is in an excellent location for visiting the Alhambra, walking into Grenada, catching the little train or the bus. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, especially Jessica on Reception. The room was comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was more than adequate.
We had lunch here on our last day as we had an evening flight back to Gatwick. The lamb was to die for and we were treated to a "digestif" at the end of our meal. A nice gesture. We would definitely recommend this hotel.
