Owner description: The home of composer Manuel de Falla (1876-1946).

Even on the longest darkest night of a North European mid winter it only takes a few bars of Manuel De Falla's music to be instantly transported to the sun drenched plains and hills of Granada. What better way to repay this gift than to visit the composers modest, beautifully situated home and garden. You may be surprised by the modest circumstances in which a composer of this stature lived and unfavourable comparisons with certain aspects of modern celebrity may well occur to you. Don't let this put you off, this is a visit well worth taking and you will gain new insights into the composers life. A visit to the modern "Manuel De Falla Auditorium " can be made after your visit by ascending the path through his garden. It is heartening to see the circumstances of his later life being redressed by this this superb building built in his honour.

If you like Falla's music, this is a must while in Granada. Follow the signs down the steps to the house, just below the Falla Auditorium and ring the bell to let them know you want a tour. The house is tiny, so only a few people can go on each tour - you just wait in the courtyard if a tour is underway.

On our tour it was a mix of Spanish and English and the guide did a great job of switching back and forth between languages, telling us about Falla's life in Granada. There are only a few rooms, but you get a great insight into the man - from the mini-shrine in his bedroom to the shelves packed with pills and potions. Well worth 3 euros.

Loved his home, where he lived and composed for many years. It is a pleasure for classical music fans surprisingly no CDs nor other music available for purchase at the home. I would also have loved a video with some of his music performed, maybe look him up in YouTube before going

We didn't need to book for a guided tour round this little house, the guide was Spanish and spoke understandable English (although he started off in French, having just taken some French people around!). A beautifully presenved example of a typical little Spanish house of the early to mid 20th century, with all sorts of fascinating memorabilia from de Falla's life there, with his sister. Photographs, paintings, personal effects - de Falla was a hypochondriac, and his bedroom shelf is still full of pill boxes and medicine bottles. A snapshot in time. I was very moved by it all.
