The gardens of the Generalife were part of the Alhambra and played a double role : first it was a garden where was grown vegetables and fruits for the inhabitants, and second it was an "almunia", a villa where people from the Alhambra were going to escape the heat and the sun. Of course, the Generalife nowadays is very different from Middle Age. The gardens are works from the beginning of the 20th century. Still, it's wonderful.
