We recently visited Granada for two nights to see the Alhambra and stayed at the Palacio de Santa Paula (owned by Marriott). So glad we chose this hotel. It was amazing. We were 3 couples and reserved 3 rooms in the convent section. As soon as you arrive at the hotel the people in reception welcome you warmly and continue that though your stay. Very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is lovely and has an old world charm with modern efficiency. Our rooms were wonderful and had views onto the courtyard below. The rooms were all spacious and beautifully decorated. Plenty of room and very comfortable beds. The large bathrooms were fantastic with double sinks and a great shower. Free minibar that they restock (amazing...I have never seen this before). Robes, slippers, hairdryers, toiletries in each room. Free wifi available in the lounge area of the hotel and there was plenty of room there to sit and communicate with those at home. Location of hotel is perfect. Walking distance to almost everything you want to see and easy bus transportation right across the street. Great shopping also! We ate dinner one night at the hotel's restaurant El Clostro. Great restaurant! We ate outside in the courtyard and had a delicious meal with wonderful ambiance.

Room Tip: Stay in the convent section.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in early October. It is on a main street so you need to pull up and park outside and they will park you car for you but the parking is 20 euros per night. The hotel was an old convent so is very historic with fantastic architectural features. Helpful staff and good breakfast. Very well situated to walk around the city and close to the Alhambra by taxi. My only gripe was that we were put in the basement with no window so there was no natural light in the room at all although it was very well appointed. To be fair it was hosting a wedding on the day we arrived so I charitably assumed that the family had booked all the other rooms and that we got the last one even though we booked 6 months ahead. Good feature was that the mini bar was free but yes there was no tea of coffee in the room. If I stayed here again I would insist on an unpstairs room. They also give you good directions to leave the hotel by car which are absolutely essential.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room.

An amazing hotel from the old part, fairly standard corporate faceless hotel in the new. Fantastic location, you really need to hold your nerve with going the wrong way down the street to get to it, the hotel sort the stuff out with the police all very seamlessly. Really could do with tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, but the fruit basket was very welcome. The cloisters is a beautiful place to sit with a drink, the service is impeccable & unobtrusive. If you want to visit the Alhambra, you must book ahead or either face disappointment or a seriously early start to get into the queue for any tickets available that day or pay loads for an excursion. Very recommended if a bit of an indulgent & expensive treat!

We stayed 3 nights to visit the Alhambra and other moorish sites in Granada. The hotel is situated on the Gran Via Colon in the centre of town. If arriving by car you need to drive up the bus only lane and park in the lay by outside the hotel. The reception staff alert the police so you pdon't get a ticket for driving on the bus lane. After that they valet park your car until you need it. Hotel is 5 star modern and comfortable. Only glitches were a mess up by the concierge booking a session at the Hammam with massage, but sorted out, and wi-fi is free only in reception. If you want wi-fi in room it's 12,euros per night. A 5 star hotel should have free in room wi fi. On the plus side the mini bar is free! Overall we had a great stay. Buses to the Alhambra go from a few metres up the road and it's well located for shopping so hide the credit card if you're bringing your other half.

Stay in the CONVENT section! They are "superior" rooms and absolutely gorgeous! Our room overlooked the courtyard, had lofted, beamed ceilings and beautiful wood shutters. Excellent Room. The non CONVENT rooms were ordinary Mariott. The Front desk staff were SUPERB! I'd stay here again. It's an easy walk to EVERYTHING.

On a recent trip to Spain I stayed at the AC Palacio De Santa Paula Hotel in Granada Spain. I put a video together of the hotel grounds and room here: http://youtu.be/8OBBOllY9as

The hotel is composed of three main buildings, a renovated house/mansion, a renovated convent, and a new high-rise. I had a room in the basement of the renovated house/mansion. I think the fact that the hotel is just soo old is one of the neat parts of staying here... it doesn't look like every other Marriott in the world :). The room was very large and appointed rather nicely, though a bit dark on the inside due to the moorish theme. I could hear some noise from the outside hallway/courtyard, but it wasn't too bad.

The minibar is "free" and they refill it every day... that was a pretty nice perk. Additionally, the restaurant does provide ice as well, which sometimes is a rarity in Europe. A couple of nights we just brought back some take-out food to the hotel, ate on our sofa, and drank from the mini-bar. Very nice.

The hotel is situated perfectly for visiting downtown Granada and the Alhambra. The bus to the Alhambra picks up right in front of the hotel. If you're a Marriott person, like me, then I'd highly recommend this hotel for a trip to Granada.
