“Nice hotel, great location”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

We are usually Hilton fans but seeing that very few were on our route through Andalucia, we decided to give the AC Hotels by Marriot a try during our drive. This hotel was great from checkin to check out. Our gps found the hotel without a problem and we valet parked the car. Checkin was quick and friendly. We got a room on the 4th floor facing the Gran Via. Double windows muted any sounds from traffic although we did hear a demonstration on the street that afternoon through the window. They also open up which is nice. The room had some nice amenities, comfortable bed, robe and slippers. There plenty of electrical plugs for recharging our devices. We did get internet for free in the room. Not sure if that is normal or not. We are silver members through the Chase Visa card. Not sure if that helped. We missed the inclusive breakfast as a Holton Gold member so did not eat at the restaurant except for the free drink and tapas coupon provided at check in. This was a nice touch as we used this prior to venturing out in to the city. Plenty of eating options around the hotel. No ironing board, iron, coffee or room safe in the room. Missed those things as we usually use them at Hilton. Location is great for access to the city. Easy walk to the Cathedral. Short taxi ride to the mirador san lucas, about 5 euros. Also, we took a taxi to La Alhambra from town for about 5 euros. Checkout was pretty quick. Valet gave us directions to get out of the area as the Gran Via and other roads downtown are restricted to buses and taxis. Definately would recommend this hotel and would stay here again without question.

Grenada is one of the greatest of historic cities in Spain (and legitimately one of the most interesting places in Europe) and the AC Palacio is a wonderful place to stay while exploring the deep history of the place. Walking distance from the Alhambra, the Arab Quarter, and one of the hidden gems of the art world, the Royal Chapel (with a jaw dropping collection of Flemish art owned by the Spanish royal family in the 15th and 16th century), the service is great, the rooms are nice and well kept (not fancy, but nice), and the restaurant is surprisingly good if you need to grab meal there instead of wandering to one of the feet restaurants nearby. Are there any downsides? The rooms are inconveniently located - it is a former convent, and the character of the place is not user-friendly in a modern tradition. Also, the place is not cheap, and doesn't have some of the amenities you might expect at the price due to the aforementioned former convent status and the architectural restrictions (eg the gym). But these are nits (traditional in any Trip Advisor review) and the place is great. Also, affiliated with Marriott for loyalty program purposes.

My girlfriend surprised me by booking this hotel for an over night stay in Granada while we were visiting the region. When we arrived the front desk were very attentive and polite. We were even upgraded to a superior room free of charge. The room was very clean and the decor was fantastic. They provided a large range of toiletries from the standard soap and shampoo to razors and toothbrushes. Our room had a beautiful terrace outside which overlooked the hotel bar or restaurant down below. The bed was extremely comfy and the pair of us even got lost in it as it was that big. We did not visit the hotel restaurant or bar so I can't comment on them although I did find trying to charge €22pp for breakfast a tad excessive. The hotel's location was very central, a 10 minute walk from the main shopping district and the city's cathedral. All in all I would certainly stay here again.

Have just come back from a weekend stay in this hotel and it was very enjoyable. We didn't eat in the hotel but we did enjoy the cocktails! Our room was clean and the beds especially were really comfortable. All in all a really enjoyable stay in a lovely place and town.

We had booked a superior room at this, so called, five star hotel in a converted monetary in the centre of Granada. When we arrived we were shown to a dark, tucked away room, with some of the windows frosted. The reason for this, we discovered was that it was inches away from a glass lift shaft. My husband felt unable to stay in this room and requested a different room. He was then shown another superior room which stank of cigar smoke. As non smokers we felt unable to stay here either. We were told that there was only a standard room a available, which we then took. It, too was very dark, and fairly unpleasant .
We felt that the entire hotel had been badly modernised and was very ugly when it should have been stunning. It had a beautiful internal courtyard, but dismal furnishings that jarred with the surroundings
The breakfasts were very third rate and are apparently contracted out and not even organised by the hotel. The waiters were surly and unhelpful, giving misinformation to other guests staying at the hotel.
I have read other reviews on Tripadvisor which show very different experiences from ours, but we met two lots of American guests whilst at breakfast who had similar experiences to our own.
The location of the hotel was perfect for visiting but we did not enjoy our experience very much although the reception staff were helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Question very carefully the location of the room and whether or not it is dark. Ours was, and so too...

Dear GainsboroughLondon

Thank you for sharing your experience in our hotel in Tripadvisor. Though your experience here was not as expected, we tried to do our best in order to assist you at the check in. As you very well explain, we offered you several rooms to choose, one of them you took (standard room instead of the superior reserved in the origin).

We can of course understand that the hotel, a mixture between modern and historic buildings, may be not look nice to everyone and, while some people love it, some other do not like at all. We are really sorry that you did not like the hotel style but we hope that, somehow, your global experience in Granada was not enterely negative and that our staff have help you in your stay in our city.

Again, thank you for your comments, that are always a help for us to try to improve the service provided.

Best regards, GainsboroughLondon

The AC was a wonderful choice for a short visit in Granada. It is close to all the main attractions and offers clean and interesting lodging. I regret we didn't have more time to spend at the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was first class for breakfast and lunch.

This hotel was incredibly cool given its origins as a former convent. There are beautiful murals on the wall and our room faced an outdoor courtyard, which was a nice place to sit in the evening. However, the hotel still had the amenities of a modern five star hotel. The staff was very accommodating. We had booked two rooms (one for my brother and me and one for my parents) and they were able to give us rooms across each other in an alcove. The location of the hotel was also great. It's not exactly walking distance to the Alhambra but just a short taxi ride away. It is very close to the Granada Cathedral and Plaza Nueva. Breakfast was good, but nothing fancy.

My two critiques of this hotel are minor for the most part. One, the WiFi did have a tendency to drop which might irritate some people. Second, as part of its "modern decor," the bathroom doors are made of frosted glass. The issue is that you really can see more through the door than I think was anticipated. For a couple sharing a room, that's fine I guess but for non-couples it can get a little awkward.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the atrium for a nice view
