“Super staff”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

When we arrived our room wasn't quite ready so we were told we could have free drinks and tapas in the beatiful courtyard. The front desk staff were very helpful with recommending restaurants, loading our luggage, filling our travel cooler with ice, etc. We would stay they again.

Absolutely wonderful hotel. The historic nature of the hotel alone makes it a wonderful place to stay, but the location and the people who work there put this hotel over the top. Front desk service was wonderful. Restaurant service was a little slow, but we found this to be true almost everywhere in Spain. Overall an amazing hotel which is very close to all the major sights in Granada.

I stayed at the Santa Clara for one night on business. It is a very stylish hotel that really shows the essence of the City of Granada in its architecture. The menu in the restaurant was somewhat limited in choice, but more than made up for that in quality.

A group of about 35 stayed in this hotel on June 15, 2014. Once inside and you get a room you will be on an adventure to find it. It is a converted monastary and all the rooms are located up and down various corridors. The courtyard is great and it is not your "cookie cutter" hotel. All were pleased with the rooms and service. We ate breakfast there and it was quite good. This is a good place to stay in Granada.

Just walking in the front door doesn't give you any idea of what's ahead in this hotel. Since it is a converted monastery, the floor plan is a labyrinth of passage ways and levels. Getting to our room was an adventure all to itself! However, after you learn where your room is, this is a very nice hotel. You need to also be prepared that the rooms are all different and some have strange ceilings, sloping roofs and low doorways. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone with a walking handicap. The rooms on the courtyard can be noisy if there is a party going on. The day we checked-in there was a wedding taking place. We tried to take a nap, but the noise level was very high. The wedding ended before we went to bed that night so we slept well. I was surprised that the noise from the restaurant during breakfast did not wake us up. The breakfasts were wonderful. They offered a large variety of made-to-order items such as eggs and pancakes. They also had the usual fruit, meat, cheese, bread, pastries, juices, yogurt, etc... The food was fresh and the service was fine. The hotel staff was friendly and I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room not on the courtyard

This is a perfectly nice property - the new wing at least and we booked here because we had Marriott miles to redeem. Bottom line - if you are paying, strongly consider staying somewhere else. We booked the rooms on line and requested interconnecting rooms for our family. We received no response to the contrary and fully expected to have the request met. When we called the hotel to make sure the rooms would be interconnecting the week before, they told us what the manager confirmed in a response to someone else below - only suites are interconnecting with a double room - not 2 double rooms. No problem, we have lots of Marriott points - so we call Marriott and points cannot be used for a suite at this hotel. So we called back the hotel and the cost to upgrade one of the rooms to a suite to get what we thought we had booked to begin with would be an additional 150 euros. We decided to stick with what we had - as the point was to use points and not pay extra. When we checked in, we asked about a suite upgrade and were officiously told we had been assigned two rooms next to each other in the new wing. OK? OK! Well not OK - but we had tickets for the Alhambra and we needed to get going. So here we are in an EMPTY hotel - if we have seen 8 other guests coming and going, that is a lot, with one room directly next to the elevator. And while the front desk clerk was certainly polite enough when we checked in, he did not really listen or hear the request and answered what he wanted to answer. Additionally, we ventured into the restaurant in the courtyard for dinner and the one waiter serving there was even less helpful or welcoming than the front desk so we gladly ate somewhere else (see our other Granada review for the best paella ever one block from this hotel!!!). So if you are looking for 5 star accommodations and you are willing to pay for friendly, caring, helpful service, stay somewhere else!!

This hotel met all our expectations. Excellent location, quality finishings and good service. The cloister of the convent is beautiful and a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing drink at the end of the day. We stayed in the modern section in a suite with an interconnecting standard room for our 2 children. This option was perfect for us as it was spacious and quiet.

Room Tip: We were travelling as a family of 2A & 2C (12 & 10 years) and the combination of a suite wit...
