It has been a long held ambition of mine to revisit the Alhambra, and this time to stay in the Parador.
The hotel is housed in a beautiful 12th century ex convent building though most of the interior is ultra modern. It is a spectacular and unforgettable place.
Our room was small but very well appointed with clever use of space making up for lack of it. The view out of our window to the Generalife was worth a lot!
Style was elegant, the terrace outside the Restaurant looked directly to the Genralife over their own terraced gardens and the Alhambra. The perfect location for exploring this iconic world class destination and recovering after a hard day's sightseeing.
The restaurant gave us the best Parador dinner of our trip.

If you want to splash out, there really is no excuse to stay anywhere else in Granada.
Yes, it is very very expensive. We paid around 350 Euro for a double room, two years ago, so no doubt prices are even higher today.
It really is worth every penny though. To take breakfast or tea in the open courtyard where Quen Isabella of Spain was buried until she was moved to the Royal Chapel is a really memorable experience. Few buildings this old are open to the public so to be able to stay and explore the corridors of the 15th C convent is a rare treat.
There were a few kinks which needed ironing out when we stayed, for example we asked for a room service menu so we could choose a bottle of wine before our evening out. The staff were very suprised by this and weren't quite sure what to do. Eventually we got a restaurant wine list but it seemed as though the staff weren't used to ad-hoc guest requests. we also had great difficulty getting an iron for the room and the bar shut very early - around 10pm. It didn't really have the feel of a 4 star hotel from a service perspective but to be honest, we didn't really care as the rooms and the view were what we were there for.
Our bedroom window looked out over the summer palace and gardens, truly spectacular.
We decided to stay an extra night even though we probably couldn't afford it. But it really felt like a once in a lifetime opportunuty to stay somewhere special.

The Parador Alhambra was a very nice surprise. Based on the previous reviews we were expecting a somewhat iffy hotel. While the room rates are clearly ridiculous, I think the experience is worth it. We had a very nice room on the second floor over looking the gardens. The room was modern, quiet, with two windows that opened. In the morning and evening it was incredibly peaceful. Its location inside the Alhambra makes it ideal for an early morning walk around the Alhambra and easy access to go back and forth during the day.

As we were staying two nights and arrived later in the afternoon, we decided to have supper at the Parador our first night, even after reading the reviews. Again, we must disagree. While somewhat expensive, although not ridiculous, we had a truly wonderful meal. We only ordered the regional items so we could taste these local treats and found them all to be quite good and well prepared.

The breakfast was better than average with a nice selection with the ability to order cooked items, as well. Parking was included in the rate and there was no additional charge for Internet access. So, when you add the cost of these two items at most other good hotels in Spain, the nightly rate becomes a bit more reasonable, although still overpriced.

For those of you who read our reviews as we travel several months a year, you know I can be quite critical. This Parador was just a pleasant surprise.

I cringed a little when I saw the prices to stay at this parador, but a friend of mine said "Trust me, spend the money." My credit card bill came to $1253, which included two nights, two dinners, two breakfasts and a lunch (for two people). It was WORTH EVERY PENNY.

This parador is AT the Alhambra, one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. (I'm an American architect.) The Alhambra is on a hilltop, above the rest of the city. You will still need tickets to get into the palaces there, but it it's tremendous convenience to be able to go back to your room to rest and use the bathroom. The restaurant is excellent, and again has the convenience factor working for it. Both the restaurant and our room had lovely terraces overlooking gardens and the Generalife on the adjacent hilltop, but it was a little chilly to sit out there in early March.

Our room was a very pleasant, high-design affair in what seemed to be a recent addition to the original nunnery building of the parador. I wouldn't say it was extraordinary, but it was very comfortable. (Look out for the stone floor in the shower, it's slippery!)

In early March the Alhambra was busy but not a mob scene. In high season, having the parador as a place to retreat from the crowds and the heat would (I have to imagine) be that much more important.

The staff was attentive and pleasant. One little caveat: I had to leave early in the morning to catch a train back to Seville. The staff at the desk during the day spoke fluent English, but early in the morning that was not true, which made the departure a little more awkward than it would have been otherwise.

If you need a final nudge to do this, I believe profits from this parador go towards the restoration and protection of the Alhambra.

This parador is located inside the Alhambra. We had a balcony which was great to smoke a cigar or and listen to the call to prayer. The location is certainly the best part, but the food, service, view, and rooms were very agreeable.

absolutely surprising to know, when we reached there, that it was inside Alhambra. This makes life much easier, since you can enjoy the beautiful parador and its delicious food (try the Habas for starter) and visit the historic places early in the morning. Granada is, in my opinion, a 1 day visit place. Therefore, even considering the Parador expensive, it worths being there.

This hotel is exceptionally located, right in the heart of the Alhambra, so if your time is limited and you really just want to concentrate on the Alhambra, this is the place to be. If however, you stay several days in this beautiful city, you might want to consider a hotel in town, as the Parador is quite isolated from the rest of the city. That said, our room was spacious and clean, although quite uninspired and unoriginal in its décor. The food was very good, and the grounds of the hotel are lovely. The service was OK, nothing more, although I think they feel that people will just keep coming here because of the unbeatable location (they will). There is parking at this hotel which is a big plus.
