“Wonderful historical location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2010

Pros: exquisite location, if you want to be part of it, that is where you should stay ! Right between Alhambra and Generalife (gardens) with views to die for. Fantastic landscaping: gardens are just perfect. Restaurant: simply the best terrace location and food was delicious. Very high level of refinement for the decoration. Impeccably clean.

Cons: rooms a bit small and, honestly, simply decorated. Staff: well... "O.K." would be the most we could say: not terribly friendly, it shows that this is a government run institution...also, some friends of us left a message for us at the Paradore one day...teh staff gave it to us when we checked out.... Maybe a bit more english from the restaurant staff, so we do not have to get the manager for translation. Lighting for the terrace is a bit too bright and should be reviewed. Location far away from the city: have to walk up and down the hill quite often. Alternatively: cab or bus. No pool, so for those 40C days...

Historically speaking, the best you can get, so if this is what you want, you will probably find that the value is acceptable.

This hotel is housed in a wonderful building, and it in a dream location for your trip to the Alhambra, but I'm not sure that it is the best place to stay for a visit to Granada. After much deliberation about the price we booked a 2 night stay, which we very much enjoyed. Our room was surprisingly modern but very spacious and comfortable for three people. While there was no balcony we had 2 windows with 2 pleasant garden outlooks. The Parador chain is in the process of adding excellent signage around the hotel about its history, and excavating on the site of a moorish bath house near the dining room. We were able to return to the hotel to have drinks and cool off several times during the day we visited the Alhambra. Service from the staff and the hotel breakfast were both excellent. The hotel does, however, feel a bit removed from the rest of the town and, because of the price, we limited our stay in Granada to two nights. If I was planning the trip again I would probably still stay at the Parador for the purposes of Alhambra immersion, but I would also book somewhere down the hill for a couple more nights to get involved in the town, which was very interesting and vibrant.

I am not sure what the reviewer from New York was expecting but if they wanted the gushing service characteristic of this standard of US hotels, then staying at a Parador was not right for them. The restaurant meals were excellent, European sized portions! The staff were very pleasant and accommodating - the front desk staff spoke excellent English and the rest of the staff had a smattering but surely we should be attempting to speak Spanish, after all we are their guests. The rooms are comfortably and simply furnished, small but perfectly formed. This building is centuries old and those fountains have been running for most of that time - I don't think they need switching off at night. We had the most fabulous views from our room over the Generalife and it was so peaceful. Breakfast on the terrace looking at that view with the fountain gently playing - perfect start to the day. It is an expensive place to stay, probably the most expensive of the Paradors but if you go knowing and expecting that, you'll have a great time.
One tip - if you book your visit to the Nasrid Palaces for first thing in the morning (8:30am), they are very peaceful and evocative. We visited the Palaces then the fortress, then went back to the hotel for breakfast (it goes on until 11am) before going over to the Generalife. Very civilised

If what you are looking for is to be close to the alhambra, this is the place for you. The rooms furnishings were like a student room (think ikea). Considering the historic location of the hotel the rooms decor lacked atmosphere and warmth. They have no king size beds (or thats what they told us) so my boyfriend and I had to sleep in twin beds push together (very romantic). We stayed in a suite and it was not worth what we payed for it. If I could do it all over again I would not choose to stay there. We could hear the reception desk phone ring from our room and there was a fountain outdoors that kept running all night. The food in the restaurant was good but small portions were served. Limited hours for room service (if I remember correctly from 8 am to 11pm)

The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's literally inside the Alhambra complex. The terrace restaurant is well worth going to, because it has an amazing view over the Generalife. However, the expense of the hotel would make us hesitate about returning. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, but a bit soulless. For the money, we would have expected a few more individual touches. It felt a bit like a Hilton. Still, if location is key, we would recommend it.

It has been a long held ambition of mine to revisit the Alhambra, and this time to stay in the Parador.
The hotel is housed in a beautiful 12th century ex convent building though most of the interior is ultra modern. It is a spectacular and unforgettable place.
Our room was small but very well appointed with clever use of space making up for lack of it. The view out of our window to the Generalife was worth a lot!
Style was elegant, the terrace outside the Restaurant looked directly to the Genralife over their own terraced gardens and the Alhambra. The perfect location for exploring this iconic world class destination and recovering after a hard day's sightseeing.
The restaurant gave us the best Parador dinner of our trip.

If you want to splash out, there really is no excuse to stay anywhere else in Granada.
Yes, it is very very expensive. We paid around 350 Euro for a double room, two years ago, so no doubt prices are even higher today.
It really is worth every penny though. To take breakfast or tea in the open courtyard where Quen Isabella of Spain was buried until she was moved to the Royal Chapel is a really memorable experience. Few buildings this old are open to the public so to be able to stay and explore the corridors of the 15th C convent is a rare treat.
There were a few kinks which needed ironing out when we stayed, for example we asked for a room service menu so we could choose a bottle of wine before our evening out. The staff were very suprised by this and weren't quite sure what to do. Eventually we got a restaurant wine list but it seemed as though the staff weren't used to ad-hoc guest requests. we also had great difficulty getting an iron for the room and the bar shut very early - around 10pm. It didn't really have the feel of a 4 star hotel from a service perspective but to be honest, we didn't really care as the rooms and the view were what we were there for.
Our bedroom window looked out over the summer palace and gardens, truly spectacular.
We decided to stay an extra night even though we probably couldn't afford it. But it really felt like a once in a lifetime opportunuty to stay somewhere special.
