“Splendor in Granada”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

Hotel Casa 1800 is a wonderful oasis tucked away in the historical heart of Granada. This beautiful hotel is charming and elegant and close to major attractions. The reception staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming and the rooms very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a pleasant stay in Granada.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe option with view of Alhambra

We have just spent 2 nights in the Junior suite at the hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, the staff extremely helpful and pleasant, and the hotel itself is very centrally located close to the Plaza Nueva, and a few minutes walk to the cathedral. We enjoyed the breakfasts very much in the courtyard, and also afternoon tea, which was complimentary. Our room was tucked away, so was very peaceful, the only criticisms being that it was a bit on the dark side, and the wifi signal was weak, but again was very clean and spacious, with room for an extra bed for our son, plus a seating area, and a large double bed. It was expensive, but the room was lovely, and we had everything we needed.

Room Tip: The junior suite was large and peaceful. Room 11.

This is a beautiful hotel and absolutely enchanting. The staff are very friendly, efficient and welcoming. A really calm, peaceful and elegant hotel in the heart of a fabulous city. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

This excellent little hotel is located minutes from Alhambra and within the pedestrian area. The staff are helpful and polite. The rooms are huge and clean. There is a plentiful and free afternoon tea supplied to all guests every afternoon. The only negative - the rooms can be noisy if your neighbouring guests have children.

We spent 3 nights here in room 23. The hotel is on a pedestrian only street which is a short, level walk from taxi drop off (we considered this a positive.) It's at the foot of the Albayzin and only a couple of blocks from Plaza Nueva. Our room was advertised as a "Deluxe Double Room with Alhambra Views." Indeed, it did have an Alhambra view, through a small chest high window that had to lean into and twist a bit to get a view of the Alhambra. There were two other exterior windows that had no view at all (one opened to the adjacent building's wall a few feet away.)

The room was a bit worn, but comfortable. It was a bit cool during our March stay so we used the heat which had a somewhat noisy fan (although not enough to keep one awake.)

The safe was a joke. It's tethered by a cheap chain anchored to the closet buy a small wood screw. It would have taken little to no effort to remove the entire safe from the closet. The WiFi is less than spotty. My smartphone wouldn't connect in our room (signal too weak,) and neither of our iPads could maintain a signal long enough to download email. It was better in the courtyard, however.

We didn't opt for the breakfast but did enjoy the afternoon tea.

The staff was friendly upon arrival and showed us to our room. Each day, however, the cleaning staff opted to not replace items in the bathroom. Bath towels were always replaced but hand towels weren't (even though we left them on the floor.) Shampoo and soap wasn't replaced until we asked the second time. After the second night the toilet tissue wasn't replaced even though we clearly left the empty roll and the nearly empty roll in plain sight on the commode. At €195 per night one should not have to ask for the cleaning staff to replace the papel higiénico.

The professional pictures of this hotel are lovely, but our room really didn't match that standard. I so wanted to give this hotel at least four stars, but in the end the value just isn't there.

The location of this hotel is great. You can walk to Alhambra (yes, it is an uphill climb but then you can justify eating a few more tapas), the cathedral and all the great eating spots. Very comfortable room and delightful staff. Good restaurant recommendations from hotel staff.

Room Tip: Our room (number 10) was over the kitchen. If you don't wish to wake up when they start laying...

We have been to multiple cities in Spain. Of all of the hotels, the concierge spoke the best English and was extremely helpful! They have a great spread for breakfast! They also have complimentary "tea" which includes delicious pastries, tea, coffee, and soda. Highly recommend this place. Only issue was actually finding the physical hotel once we arrived in town. The parking is many blocks away. They will email you parking instructions when you make the reservations. Make sure to read it :)
