“A little gem of peace in a lively city”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

We stayed for 6 nights during April in this lovely peaceful hotel in the Albayzin area of Granada. It is located on a narrow cobbled street just off St Ana plaza. Cool and quiet with a delightful courtyard where you take breakfast and (free) afternoon tea. Good choice of breakfast items and good tea provided in the rooms.
We stayed at first in room 23, very spacious with a small settee and coffee table. But wanting a view of the Alhambra we moved into room 26 which has a small patio with chairs and table and has a direct view of the palace. Lovely, but with a caveat. The balcony is above someone else's back courtyard where rubbish is kept and as the day warmed up we could smell the rubbish below. This wasn't a problem in the evening though. Bathrooms in both rooms were lovely.
The staff were friendly and really helpful in making bookings and advising on transport and attractions. The hotel is within walking distance of the main Granada sites, and there's a good range of restaurants and bars in the local area.
Food generally isn't brilliant in Granada but we liked La Cueva, Los Diamantes, La Cueva d' Ali Baba (along the river on the right hand side) and Ziryab. Highly recommend flamenco at Casa del Arte, but not at the tourist places in Sacromonte.
Great city. Lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms face into the inner courtyard which fills up with breakfasters from early on. Room...

This is a great hotel. The staff were very friendly, the rooms were beautiful. This room had one of the best bathrooms we've ever stayed in in Europe. Has a great shower and a great and powerful hair dryer, which is hard to find in hotel rooms! Be prepared though to carry your luggage up the hill to the hotel, as the alleys are too narrow for cars. Our cab driver was very friendly and helped us bring our things up there.

What a wonderful stay we had in this small hotel/bed and breakfast. There is an outdoor courtyard in the middle of this hotel that has tables and beautiful wing chairs and fountains and greenery. They serve breakfast and an afternoon tea here. We were given a room that looked over the courtyard and were lucky enough to smell freshly baked croissants and cafe each morning. This hotel is up from the main Plaza Nueva and not accessible by car, but just a short walk from the Plaza. The rooms are small but very comfortable and the beds were comfortable as well. The bathrooms were upgraded with great counters and shower. It felt almost as if we were staying in a spanish villa of some sort. Someone's home. The staff was helpful and provided us with a corkscrew each evening as we had purchased a bottle of wine (good, inexpensive wine purchased in the Plaza) and drank each evening before going out for tapas or dinner.

Room Tip: I liked a room right on the courtyard itself, but some may not as you can see and hear others in the...

The hotel is right in the middle of everything in granada, lovely little market shops right outside the door and walking distance to everything. The hotel itself is lovely, beautiful room, free afternoon tea and the most friendly and helpful staff that we came across on our trip around south Spain. We stayed in room 14 which was a little noise so if you are a light sleeper would recommend some ear plugs!

We stayed 5 nights in the hotel which is well situated in the old town close to all points of interest and great Tapas bars. Our room was comfortable and quiet with a great shower, you cannot expect huge rooms with big views unless you stay outside the city. The free bottle water was a great plus as was the afternoon tea, nice to sit down after all the walking. Will stay again when we next visit Granada.

This really is a lovely hotel, but a few more seating areas would be appreciated; perhaps a library where one could hide away with a book after a day at The Alhambra. Also, we found the background music somewhat out of kilter with the general atmosphere of the building. Discordant jazz played on a harsh saxophone did not sit well with the tranquil surroundings. It probably sounds a little corny, but some traditional Spanish guitar music would have been preferable.
The hotel really is very easy to find. Ask your taxi driver to take you to the Plaza Nueva and it's a very short walk and well signposted.
No qualms at all about our rooms and the staff were very helpful.

While many aspects of the hotel have aspects of a higher rating the hotel can have some downsides to it.

On the up side the staff is very helpful and fluent in English for those that have that as a need. The rooms all very different and I can only comment on the one we had and the ones are traveling companions had during our stay. Both rooms were clean, spacious and well decorated. The baths are nice, spacious with soft towels and nicer than usual bath robes. Ours had a jacuzzi type tub in it. It also had dark wood ceilings which added to its character.

Beds were comfortable although the smallest of the"King Size" beds we experienced throughout Spain.

Another plus is water in the minibar and in a reception area is complimentary. That saves several euros a day for those that drink bottled water. It has a nice center courtyard where one can relax. The location is great as well with the Alhambra and Cathedral close by.

The main down side is that depending on where your room is noise can be an issue. We had absolutely no street noise but could easily hear people talking in the hall or courtyard. Since the hotel is small and we stayed out late it was only an issue when others were up earlier than us. The hotel itself is quite old and while the furnishings our very nice and most fixtures are quite modern, the hotel seems old which can add to the noise as well as the charm.

It also is only accessible by foot for about the last 50 - 200 meters depending how well your driver is willing and able to navigate the narrow streets to the property.

All this said, if in Granada again I probably would stay here again.

Room Tip: Location in the hotel will drive noise level so choose carefully
