Description: Open from Monday to Friday (from 13:00 to 16:30 and from 19:00 to 21:30). Offers a wide selection of authentic and delicious Italian food, desserts, wines and coffe. Everyday Maria starts cooking very early in the morning her exquisite recipes, including the fresh pasta sheets for the best lasagnas and the focaccia that accompanies every dish. This cosy local has a table for four people, another one for two, and two bars. Is the ideal place to eat with friends or alone. Maria never stops searching new recipes typical of the best Italian tradition. And every day, you can try the special menu: portion of vegetable quiche, drink and dessert (7.90 €). You can also enjoy the excellent lasagnas (with meat or vegetables).Maria recommends to arrive early in order to have a look at the shop window with all the dishes and desserts of the day.

Notwithstanding the Italian roots, this will be one of most delicious destinations travelers encounter during their time in Granada, Spain. Maria, the owner/cook/matron, cooks everything daily just before opening in her humble corner. The food is fresh, flavorful, and, tantalizing to the eyes of passers-by as it sits on display in the main window. The place is not much bigger than your average master bedroom, allowing no more than 12-14 diners in at any time, so the food is lightning quick (2-5 minutes MAX). If you ask her, she will explain to you the entire menu in terms of which are her favorites and she will make recommendations. My recommendations: the lemon torta, the albondigas in her slammin' home-made sauce, the quiches, and her to-die-for pear-almond torta. Additionally, she only ever plays Spanish or Italian music to set the atmosphere, which is a refreshing deviation from the practice of most restaurants who play American hits. She will accommodate you with a warm smile, delectable yet sophisticated homemade Italian dishes, and leave you with an irresistible desire to come back for seconds, again and again! Buon appetito en España!!

Went recently to Viva María and I strongly recomend it!! The food is superb, real home made taste! The place is very nicely decorated and it is very convinient as it is right in the centre of town. The two women working there are very lovely and helpful and the price of a meal is unexpensive! Defenitelly comming back!!

It is a small restaurant with only a few tables, but wow is the food amazing!! Maria makes everything fresh, so she had run out of our first choice ( the quiche which we had the day before, and it was delicious)! But since everything is so great we didn't mind having our second choice :) The portions are large, and fairly priced. I think it should be classified under only one $ since the entrees are only six euros. The desserts are fantastic also. If she has it you must try the strawberry torte! We even ordered pizza for the road, it was just as good reheated at home! Thank you Maria!!!!

It is simply impossible to believe this is the #1 restaurant in Granada. Someone must be stacking the deck! It has three (?) tables and a counter, and tonight at least, no food except for one slice (!) remaining of a vegetarian pizza and a plate of cauliflower. The excuse: a bigger than usual lunch crowd. (What, seven instead of six people?) I mean, get real. The woman who runs it was sweet, but that doesn't make a restaurant. And certainly she alone can't propel this restaurant to #1 in Granada. This is one of those anomalies that TripAdvisor followers need to consider with a whole shaker full of salt.

Dear Timothy Smith, thanks for your comment. I'm sorry you have this bad opinion of us.
As you well said, there was little food when you arrived last thursday. It happens some nights when any client comes very close to the closing time. I, personally, cook every morning with fresh ingredients selected by my self in the market. Never frozen or pre-cooked to serve at any time. The philosophy in “¡Viva María!” is to make, every day, the best italian recipes and desserts to serve on the same day. This is probably one of the reasons why people prefer us, but it has drawbacks.
I’m really sorry you couldn’t try any of my dishes. Please, try again.
We invite you to visit us earlier to avoid a similar experience.
María B.
