“Nice hotel, but need a Satnav to find it if driving.”
Reviewed 19 March 2013

My wife & I recently completed a 12 day mini-tour of Spain. Two nights were spent here, we wanted to look at Granada as we have heard so much about it. We normally use rather older hotels with 'character' and avoid the more modern hotels - this hotel certainly fits.the hotel is tucked away in a very narrow side street in a complex maze of one-way streets, could have been difficult to locate by map but our TomTom Satnav got it spot-on first time. On arrival we were offered an alternative choice to the standard room which we had booked, we could have an appartment in a different building for the same price. We decided to try the appartment, perhaps for only 2 nights a mistake, but we were comfortable and got a good sized clean bedroom with an extra bed, a large sitting/dining room with small reasonably equiped kitchen area and a large bathroom. There were spare beds and bedding for a family. Both rooms had heat-exchangers so very comfortable. Much more space than we would have had in the hotel itself. It was a bit of a walk from the hotel with cases but we only did the walk once. Location of both main hotel and the appartment are good with a reasonable walk to the tourist area and a selection of bars/retaurants available, the hotel itself is only 100m or so from a main shopping street. As we were in the apartment not the main hotel we had little to do with the hotel facilities or staff, however the receptionist was friendly and very helpful on arrival. Entrance to the hotel car park is a little tight but no problem with our small Honda. We intend to return to Granada when time permits, this hotel will definately be considered when this happens. If it is only for a couple of nights we will try the hotel itself, but if we stay longer we would go back to the apartments. Recommended.

Room Tip: If you dont mind self-catering and are staying several days then the apartments seem a good bet. But...

This hotel pretends ***, but very unfriendly and non-service minded management. Rooms are crampy for the price, location not too central for the city. Management was not welcoming and charged money to put our bicycles in their garage. After negotiating we paid EUR 3,- per bike per day![--] still too much money and not real service. But we made our reservations so had no choice. After checking out 3 days later he tried to get a no-show fee charged via the booking site. This is really showing this guy should not be in the hospitality business. Don't go there!

Dear customer
we remembre well your stay here in our hotel.
we are sorry that you didn't like the services we offer but, on the other hand, we have to highlight that all hotels and hostels do charge parking both for cars or bikes. obviously we do not force people to park in our parking space if they do not wish to or to stay in our hotel if they don't want to.
we really hope that despite this you could enjoy your stay in Granada
Best wishes

Abadia was well located with the cutest courtyard - great for realxing after a long drive from Madrid or a day's sightseeing. The staff were very helpful with maps and advice on where to eat and catch buses to the Alhambra. We stayed in a double room upstairs overlooking the courtyard. The room and bathroom were both well sized. Our hire car needed to be moved offsite for parking as soon as we arrived - so be ready to remove all your luggage and necessary belongings from the car as soon as you get there.

Overall, I was impressed with the Abadia hotel. It's very quaint and has a lovely reception area and a pretty little courtyard around which the rooms are situated. The room itself was quite nice and cosy. The location is great once you get there, around a 5 minute walk to the centre of the old town. The main problem is that the hotel is incredibly difficult to find in the first place. We spent an hour driving round trying to find and we got no help when we rang the hotel to ask for directions. In the end one of our party jumped in a taxi and we followed it in the car. So, not the best start.
Other points....
Upon arrival the staff were friendly and helpful. We had to pay 14 euros to park the car, which I thought was a bit steep. Kettle in the room, but no tea, coffee, milk etc and mini fridge not plugged in. Beds weren't very comfy. lot's of different WiFi points but none worked in our room.
Overall, for the price(excluding parking) I was happy and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you get proper directions first!

We had the "suite" which was fine in this small hotel. Very friendly staff ; rooms around the courtyard were nice. Well placed for the city centre but in a scruffy backstreet.
Had a few problems with the WiFi in the room which kept crashing out.
Underground parking was handy just opposite the hotel for extra price which is reasonable for a city centre hotel.
All clean and tidy with good facilities in the room.
Good value for money ; on a short city break you are not in the hotel much are you?

Room Tip: Book rooms around the courtyard

The hotel is well located (10min walking from the Cathedral for example) and very quiet at the same time. Its patio is charming (our bedroom was on a balcony facing it) and the bedroom was confortable and clean. The different receptionnists we met were nice and available to help us and give us good information about the city. But I think the best point was the price of the bedroom : we booked one for 4 nights and had a discount, finally it was less than 25€ per night and per person!

Room Tip: In their website, go to "ofertas" and choose the "stay and save" one. There are...

Very nice hotel with a great price. Room slightly small but definitely acceptable. Wifi was good. Bathroom was fine. We were in room one which is adjacent to the street. Occasionally there was street noise in the morning. But it was not a real bad problem. Parking is in a very nice lot 1 block away. This is great as there is no street parking near the hotel. It was a comfortable hotel with English speaking receptionists. It is in the heart of the city and close to everything. It is an easy bus ride or ½ hour walk to the Alhambra. I recommend the hotel and would definitely stay there again.
