“a great start to our holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2011

We arrived in Granada on a drizzly day, but our welcome at El Ladron de Agua was warm and friendly. After settling in to our well-appointed room we were invited to have tea and homemade cake in the library on the main floor. A very thoughtful touch, as were the umbrellas at the front door for venturing out into the rain. Breakfast the next morning was ample and tasty. We only stayed 1 night but would recommend this hotel, very well situated to all of the attractions in Granada, to anyone visiting that city.
Finding the hotel in our newly rented car was a challenge, made easier by a passing motorcyclist who led us to it through the winding narrow streets. Off site parking which we had to find on our own was the only drawback to this hotel.

This small hotel was superb! Our room was spacious and decorated with tile floors and wood coffered ceiling. The covered courtyard is a tranquil oasis in which art exhibits are displayed. The Alhambra is a fairly easy walk via the "Chinese steps." The young ladies on staff really went out of their way to answer our questions, even when they were trying to do many things at once. The included breakfast was a great way to start the day of exploration. Regret? That we didn't stay there longer. I love this hotel!

cross referenced many sites and selected this one. Bargained via e-mail for best rate including breakfast and taxes. Perfect location right beneath the Alhambra. Very small hotel with original beams in room. Bed very comfortable and quiet room. Small modern lobby and cave for breakfast were perfect. We are very experienced world travelers and we found this hotel to be a very good value and would stay here again.

Room Tip: book early

Good boutique hotel, in perfect location with views up to the Alhambra teasing you before your visit. We had two rooms, my family member found he had noisy neighbours in the next room, he could hear every word including the hairdryer through to his bed, which was against the wall of their bathroom. My room however was on the 3rd floor and had no shared walls. We did find the rooms a little dark with all the dark wooden beams and dark timber furniture - hard to get light into the rooms. However, as stated, the location was perfect, the breakfast served in the 'cave' was good. We stayed for 3 nights towards the end of May in order to fulfil a long held desire to visit the Alhambra which is truly magnificent.

Spent three nights here in April. Just as others describe. This hotel is small - only 15 rooms but very elegantly converted. More basic than 4 star hotels with wooden floors and slightly creaky wardrobes etc but perfectly clean and comfortable and with very modern bathrooms. Very elegant minimilist internal courtyard, peaceful library with complimentary afternoon tea and cakes. Helpful, friendly staff. Great location and although our room was overlooking the street with a balcony it was not noisy. Right on the edge of the Albayzin "old town" and very close to the main city centre - 5 minute walk - for buses to the top of the old town or to the Alhabra, although it is not a long taxi ride away either. Probably not too long to walk but it would be uphill all the way and fairly steep. Breakfast was adequate rather than lavish but nicely presented.
If coming by car follow the detailed instructions the hotel send rather than Sat Nav or Google. No car park at the hotel but you can unload in front and park in a "residents" car park about a 10 minute walk away. On leaving the hotel a taxi will take you to the car park, as it would be a long tortuous trip to drive the car round all the one-way system to get back to the hotel.
Definitely a great place to stay in Granada.

Let's just say I am use to staying in 4 -5 star hotels but based on the reviews, pictures and location I thought this was the best deal. I was not wrong. We stayed in the Generalife suite which I know is larger then most rooms. Surely sufficient space for unpacking bags and getting them out of the way. Sitting area was nice and balcony overlooking the Allhambra was perfect. Bathroom is very large and comfortable. As far as location it was perfect. Perfect for exploring the Albaicin area, steps from Plaza Nueva ( bus to the Allahambra), 5 minutes to cathedral and within walking area of all the restaurants and shopping. Never needed a cab! The little coblestone street and Darro River made everything that more quaint.
Room was clean everyday with fresh towels. All toiletries included, shaving kit, toothbrush kit, soap moisturizer but one thing missing: shampoo! Didn't get that but I come prepared with samples as you never know what you are going to get! No turn down service.
Only had an issue with one concierge. I feel that she did not understand english very well. She was not very friendly and willing to provide much information. We asked for dinner recommendation and we were told to go to Plaza Nueva and all were good. There was also a feast going on while we were there. It seemed to follow us from about 4pm to 11 pm. I asked what the feast was for and she said religous festival. I kind if got that! Speak to the morning concierge for better info.
Breakfast was sufficient. Nothing elaborate but did the trick. You may want to pick up a few drinks, water... at the little convenient store steps away as there is no mini bar.
If you can go without, turn down service, chocolates on your bed at night then this place will be just fine. Charming and quaint hotel.

Up a narrow street by the Barrio del Albayzin you can find the authentic charm of Granada; cafes, plazas and the imposing Alhambra overlooking it all.

El Ladron del Agua es a unique boutique hotel that manages to blend perfectly the traditional charm of the area with a unique design and concept. Opening the original heavy wooden door, you are welcomed in the lobby, with its peaceful fountain and wooden balconies, by a friendly staff member.

The rooms, each named after a popular poem, are up to the standards, with wooden beam ceilings and dressers, big comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms with Andalusian tiles giving you the comfort and luxury behind excellent location, price and service.

In the main floor there is a breakfast room, which provided with the basics for a great start. There is also an elegant reading room with a computer with free internet service. They have a number of books to spend a relaxing and quiet afternoon.

I must also add the location is very close to the main attractions, but extremely peaceful and quiet at night. Make sure to catch a flamenco show in one of the pubs a few steps away.

If the Alhambra is the main reason for your visit, the buses leave the Cathedral doors, which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

We were re-accomodated to El Ladron del Agua as our reservation in their other hotel Gar-Anat had to be cancelled due to maintenance problems and we found our visit to El Ladron del Agua just perfect and wishing we could stay longer.
