The hotel is charming; beautifully appointed, it feels more like an elegant, real home than a hotel. It is walking distance from the Alhambra, Cathedral, and many cafes and shops. Well-insulated glass in French door-styled windows assures you have all the beauty and little of the noise of this oasis at the foot of Alhambra. The staff were welcoming and helpful and spoke English, which I appreciated. All was very clean and comfortable. The dining room is small but pretty offering a nice selection for breakfast.

Room Tip: My room on the street side of the hotel was filled with light and offered a beautiful view.

Thank you for your wonderful review. Great observation, the hotel was formerly a Noble house and we have done our utmost to maintain its historic ambiance. Please come back!

As with our reservations at all our hotels for our trip to Barcelona, Madrid, Cordoba, Seville and Granada this month, we booked the highest priced "deluxe-plus" room here to get a larger room with "stunning views of the Alhambra". We were very disappointed when we entered "Juan Ramon", an adequate room, but much smaller that we have enjoyed in the other cities, with a small balcony overlooking a tree and stream. On the lowest floor here, there was no view of the Alhambra. Next door was a "superior" room which was almost identical except it was 37 euros cheaper and next door to that, a standard room which was 59 euros cheaper than ours. If you choose to stay here, paying extra for an upgraded room has no value. The location is good but this did not live up to expectations or be as welcoming as our other experiences.

Dear Penny,

We appreciate your feedback and take all our guest comments to heart. Originally a historic noble house dating back to the 17th century, now a small boutique hotel, each room has slightly different views and has its unique character. During the summer months views from "Juan Ramon" include a large ancient tree on the river bank, which most of our guests have commented favorably on. But we understand that this may not have been to your liking. We are sorry about that.

My partner booked this hotel for a 2 day break on our first visit to Granada. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left we loved it. Our room was named after Juan Ramon Jimenez and was a delightful room overlooking the Darro. We had a small step out balcony which was the perfect spot to soak up the atmosphere. We loved the courtyard area and the library which served complimentary sherry type wine in an evening withbTapas which was a welcome gesture. We would highly recommend this hotel for both quality of stay and location as Everything is accessible to it. The staff are very polite, helpful and friendly and all in all a 10 out of 10 from us we will return.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the Darro.

My partner booked this 5 day beak for us in Granada. He has a pretty good idea what I like. I don't like chain hotels or places that are miles from anywhere.

We had booked a taxi from Granada Airport to take us to the hotel. Although we didn't know it this was the best way to get there because the street the hotel is on, Carrera del Darro is for buses and taxis only. So we got off to a good start by getting direct to the door. The hotel's huge oak door opened onto the reception area and atrium beyond. It was a little paradise - marble floors, open courtyard, just delightful. I loved the artwork on the walls. Maria, I think, greeted us on arrival. We found our room, Melisandra on the second floor. Although it did not have a view of the street below it was a lovely room with a large bathroom and great shower. The bars on the window meant that you could have the windows open all night and not worry about someone getting in! We didn't have breakfast at the hotel and ate cheaply in Plaza Nueva. The hotel is right in the centre of things. We walked around the city for two days taking in all the sights and sounds - the central location meant that we didn't have far to come back to the hotel especially when it got too hot. It also meant that we could easily find good restaurant food right on our doorstep.

During the day there was a refreshing and welcome glass of iced water in the foyer and in the evening a glass of manzanilla and olives to enjoy in the lounge.

The foyer was a beautiful place to sit and relax.

Being in the centre of things does have drawbacks and I have to say it was noisy - the street is a major tourist/student route and is noisy virtually all night - this did not worry me as I am a heavy sleeper and was only woken up once by revellers but my partner is a light sleeper and even with the earplugs (kindly provided by the hotel) in, was woken up.

We loved Granada and our trip was made all the more special staying at El Ladron de Agua. We will be going back there.

In our travels around Granada, Cordoba and Seville this was definitely our favourite hotel. Perfectly situated to explore all of the important parts of the town on foot, characterful, comfortable, great beds, wonderful staff - what more could one want? We had three nights here, which is about right for visiting Granada - one whole day for the Alhambra and one whole day for exploring the old parts of the town on the hills above the hotel. If it's hot (it was around 34C while we were there) it's great to be able to walk for a few hours and then return to the hotel to crash for a while before going out again. We were in a lovely room at the front of the hotel, overlooking the street and river. We loved the feeling of being part of the vibe of what was going on in the street - but it could have been noisy at night had the hotel not thoughtfully provided earplugs. We slept wonderfully well.
We had asked the hotel to book Alhambra tickets for us in advance and they were waiting for us on arrival.
Every evening complementary sherry and olives are laid on in the library - an delicious aperitif before venturing out to eat. There is also an excellent selection of English books which can either be borrowed and returned or swapped with an equivalent.
I loved this hotel - it's not a luxury hotel but it was exceptionally comfortable and had absolutely everything you could want. It also felt very much a part of the town, with a local atmosphere and lots of character. I would much rather have comfort and an individual flavour than a conventional luxury hotel that could be anywhere. I recommend this hotel unreservedly - whatever you are visiting Granada for.

We stayed for two days at this wonderful hotel with my mother. The excellent professionalism shown by the staff, as well as the tasteful decoration, and magic atmosphere created with the sound of the water and poetry, made us get immerse in the peace and history of Granada immediately. The room was gorgeous (each with name is poems instead of numbers), decorated with traditional Spanish style, excellent and spacious bathroom, etc. The sound of the river, is the only thing you can hear, making you able to peacefully rest after a long day in the Alhambra.
The staff was very professional and keen to accommodate us an earlier and perfect breakfast buffet and you can feel their pride for their beautiful hotel and city. It's was a wonderful experience with excellent location, and we wish we could stayed longer. We certainly will recommend it and stay longer next time.

Room Tip: Stay at least two nights if u can in this hotel, to have the needed genuine rest during your busy tr...

This hotel will be one of my favorite memories of our trip to Spain. We were welcomed warmly by the front desk staff and felt so comfortable asking questions, even in English. The hotel is beautiful and cozy in size. The beds were so soft, we slept in for hours! Miniature chocolates and water welcomed us, a nice touch. We stayed in the Deseo room and it was beautifully decorated with a nice size bathroom. My only regret is that I didn't try the jacuzzi tub and bath salts because I slept in. A wonderful experience that made our travels so enjoyable, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone - would recommend traveling to Granada just to stay here (and see Alhambra).
