Casa Palacio Pilar del Toro Hotel
Ranked #85 of 123 Hotels in Granada
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We have been at Casa del Pilar for two nights and did enjoy staying there.
First of all, we have been welcomed very warmly by the kind staff of the hotel. The lady at the reception was willing to help also with touristic infos.
We stayed in the suite, which has a nice view on the old town and was comfortable.
Good position to visit the Alhambra and the historical center.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the this charming old hotel. We were amazed at its incredibly perfect location, ideal for visiting the Alhambra and other historic sites. In this hotel we really felt like we were in Spain! We loved the heavy beamed ceilings, the interior courtyard restaurant, and quirky back staircase access. Though we did not actually eat in the restaurant, it looked excellent (and a bit pricey). The bar was very elegant, the tapas delicious. If one values history, character and atmosphere this is a great place to stay. However, the shower leaked (so we used a lot of towels sopping up water and worrying about potential damage to the room beneath), the front desk's limited hours were a bit odd/awkward for checking in and out, and lack of an elevator may be a problem for some people. Over all, we would gladly stay here again.

We were only staying two nights and were met at the door of the Casa del Pilar, which we had chosen because it was a refurbished building in a good location( we know Granada well), to be told that there was a problem with the water heating and we would have to go to the other hotel Plaza Nueva for one night. We agreed although I have never chosen to stay at that hotel, were given a voucher for a wine or beer at the Casa del Pilar and shown to the best room. The only thing that it had going for it was a view of the Alhambra, the room was so dark because of the poor lighting, and the fittings past their sell by date. We popped into the Casa del Pilar that night for our wine and it was very busy with people who looked like they were staying there, why we couldn't have left our bags and accessed the room that evening I do not know. As there is no manned reception we couldn't enquire. We moved into the Casa del Pilar the next as the room at the Plaza Nueva was so poor. The room at the Casa del Pilar was pleasant, but again very bad lighting. A throughly bad experience finished off with having to go back to the Plaza Nueva to check out in the morning.

Perfect location for exploring the city. Taxi rank and bus stops moments away. tourist info office and Hammam virtually next door. tourist and locals eateries all around you. Characterful building with just 11 bedrooms. Although rooms 104 & 204 do not have a view at all and room 104 is like a dungeon. Gaining access after hours to the hotel was an inconvince. You needed to have a phone with you to call the night porter. I strongly recommend the hotel cleaners change their mops. Your feet get coved in cotton fluff from their mops. Be prepared to keep changing your socks or take slippers! If you are looking for a characterful central hotel to enjoy the city once the ongoing improvement have been completed, this is perfect. The much publicised fountain was not in operation nor the hotel kitchens so i had to leave the premises to eat and drink.

Room Tip: 105 & 205 will be the quietest and have a view into the courtyard too. Rooms 104 is terrible.

Situated next to the plaza nueva, this is a very nice hotel although at the moment undergoing some renovations in its public area. The rooms are very clean, nicely decorated, with bathroom, and the hotel is generally very inviting. The neighborhood, however, is not very quiet, and youngsters are partying deep into the night, so if you have problemsd sleeping ask for a room facing away from the plaza. the price is very reasonable. During the day the concierge is in the other hotel, at the other side of the plaza, so you will have to go and look for him/her.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing away from plaza nueva, it will be quieter.

Cute place in Granada, we stayed in the, heart of the Albazin area, hard to find but worth the struggle,we would go back to that area in a heartbeat.Lots of nice tapas places ,very close to the Alahambra....one thing that we didn't know was the courtyard was undergoing some renovations, which was too bad.

we arrived at the hotel and found reception locked up, with a map pinned to the door of the sister hotel across the square where we had to go, after over 6 hrs of travelling this was not the reception i expected. my husband set off to the other hotel while i waited with the bags.

after being checked in, we were directed to our room, which we found, overlooking the pretty internal courtyard below , which was part of the attraction of booking this hotel and all seemed fine. I was very disappointed to learn that the bar was open every evening untill 2am, with loud music being played , even when there was only the staff left at 1.30am.
we didnt eat at the bar, but had tea or coffee their and the service was fine. but it doesn't feel like a hotel, more like a hostel.had a know this on booking would not have chosen this hotel

no information was available in the room,so it felt that little care was taken regarding your visit.
and reception was closed most of the time. we had to take the opportunity to pay the hotel bill, when it was open, as we didnt know if they would have been around when we wanted to check out.

Room Tip: the room on the second floor with the spa bath, overlooks the courtyard, and gets all the noise from...
