“Great location but pretentious and lacking simple amenities”
Reviewed 5 October 2009

No one can argue with the location of this hotel - right across from the cathedral and easy walk to the shopping districts and Barrio. But walking into the hotel feels like entering some kind of chi-chi nightclub or high end spa for "beautiful people". We waited at reception for a good 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us, even though there was no line. Our room was spacious enough, but it had no view (the window looked out on an interior stairwell) and the layout was strange. The toilet and shower were separate enclosed stalls, both with doors that opened directly into the sleeping area, and the tub was front and center in the room, so you could enjoy the view of it from bed. Let's just say that if you're planning to stay here, I hope you like lots of naked time with your traveling companion, because there is little/no privacy. Maybe that's a plus for some. As others have said, there was no place to set your toiletries in the shower. There was also only one small mirror over the sink (which was also open to the bedroom), so only one person could get ready at a time. And the room had NO CLOCK. I found that very annoying, especially as I was trying to adjust to a time zone change. We asked the staff for a clock, and also for facial tissue, and they were unable to provide either. For $200 euros I thought the room was overpriced and the service was lacking.

I found staff to be pretentious and stiff. Room was ok exept for cleanliness. We found long hairs (not ours) in towels, floor and bed pillows. Location is what is worth, but nothing else. Restaurant JAPO terrible food and worst: the service. If you plan to visit Seville DO NOT stay here, if you like Nightlife, then this is the place. Every night they have the Roof Lounge until very late at night, so if you plan to rest or sleep forget it! Do not think its woth value for money. Try Las Casas del Rey de Baeza.

The reception first said that we didn't have a reservation. They assumed that we booked on the net and wanted to sell the room at a higher rate. They then called over the manager who then just happened to find our reservation and said it had been canceled. By whom?
He wouldn't show us as it was their personal information. They then tried to give us the suite for 2x's the price when we booked the mid level room. When we finally got it straight, the manager said he would give us breakfast for the trouble. As he took us to the room he then said< i can't give you breakfast at your room rate.! We were out all day to come back to no airconditioning. They said they would have it fixed as we went out for dinner. We returned to no air and no one to fix it. I was up all night, hot and very noisy. The morning came and they sent someone up to check the air. I am sure they never checked it the first time. We checked out of the hotel. They were not to be trusted.

This is a very funky designer hotel. Its is in one of the best spots in Sevilla and has an amazing pool and roof top area.

HOWEVER! The service is terrible and the rooms are quiet dark. The staff appear not to really care and make the stay a little difficult. We had a few issues.

The rooms are quiet dark, in some ways this is good for sleeping in the afternoon when it is soooo hot, but after a few days, staying in a dark room gets a little weird.

I thought the design and the large rooms and location was excellent and I will stay there again if I head back to Sevilla. But just keep your expectations low on the service and try and get a room that opens on the street so you can get some light.

A great hotel for romantic 30 somethings....

PS Parking the car (if you have one) is a nightmare. We had to wait an hour and a half to get our car. So keep that in mind.

My fiancee and I love the city of Seville (where we had previously visited during Semana Santa 2007) and had therefore chosen the city as one of the locations for our pre-wedding photos.

We were only in Seville for 3 nights so in order to maximise our time for photos we had chosen to stay at the Eme Fusion Hotel mainly for its close proximity to most of the major sites of Seville (e.g. the Cathedral, Giralda, Alcarzar, Maestranza, Santa Cruz etc.) despite the many not-so-positive reviews that we had read on Tripadvisor. And I think we had made the right choice!

Location / Decor / Room

Although a little pricey (at approximately 300 Euros per night), in terms of location and level of comfort / style, Eme Fusion Hotel is pretty much the best you can get in Seville.

The decor of the hotel is very trendy thoughout, and you could see that the architect(s)/designer(s) had put a lot of thought into their use of (limited) space, lighting system and furnishings etc. You probably won't like it though if you prefer or are looking for the more traditional/andalusian/moorish-influenced style of decor.

We stayed in a room that was on the third floor (fourth floor being the rooftop - where the pool and bar were). The room could be a bit more spacious and didn't have enough storage space but was comfortable and clean, and had a tiny balcony overlooking a bustling alley to the back of the hotel.

The bar on the rooftop was fantastic and the view from it was unbeatable (especially after 10pm when the Cathedral and the Giralda light up). Note: the bar was evidently very popular and stayed open well into the night, and could be quite disturbing for someone trying to sleep... The music from the bar didn't bother my fiancee and I that much though as we were exhausted after each day of photo-shooting and no noise could possibly wake us.

Service

Staff could definitely improve on their efficiency and friendliness - working in a trendy boutique hotel doesn't necessarily mean that the staff should be acting cool and put on a poker-face most of the time.

Also, Eme Fusion Hotel, being a 4*/5* hotel that receives international patrons, I would expect most staff (at least all the receptionists) to be able to speak passable English, and not just Spanish and/or French.

Breakfast

We enjoyed the breakfast a lot for its variety and the fact that they served Jamon Iberico of reasonable quality.

All of these negative comments confuse me, because for the most part my family and I enjoyed our stay at the EME fusion Seville. It is a very trendy and hip hotel, and the rooms for the most part were very comfortable. Our rooms were huge, and although the bathroom situation was not 100 % functional ( with the tub out in the open and all ) the rooms were very funky and nice. It was very nice to have wireless internet included, and the connection was very fast !! The beds were very comfortable. The staff was very nice, and were very helpful in planning our daily sightseeing adventures in Sevilla.

The pool and spa are also quite nice !

The location is perfect, it is right in front of the Giralda and Real alcazar and you can walk to so many interesting places, and little streets with good shopping.

The one thing that we found odd was that the tv had porn channels included ( not pay per view ) . If you are traveling with young family members you can ask the front desk to block those channels off.

Overall we had a really great experience at the EME!!

Arriving at the eme fusion hotel, particularly after having read the many scalding reviews by previous visitors, we honestly didn't know what to expect - and while we do have major criticism to offer, it wasn't quite as horrendous for us as it was for other people here on tripadvisor who visited in 2008. Oftentimes, hotels receiving poor customer service ratings take a 180 degree turn for the better because thankfully, a manager or someone else working at the hotel reads these reviews and immediately tries to ameliorate the conditions. This was mostly the case for us. The customer service was adequate: courteous, calm and perhaps you could detect a lack of confidence, knowledge of the hospitality industry or forced efforts but that certainly is a step ahead of despicable service noted just after the hotel's launch. The place has improved but still has some way to go to merit its 5 star status.

Reception
We arrived at the hotel on a hot day after a 2 hour flight to be greeted by a competent desk attendant who spoke excellent French for us. Someone from the bar brought us refreshing drinks, which was a welcoming plus. After the paperwork was squared away, a gentleman (the iconic figure you see representing the eme website), a sweet and a bit shy man from Senegal, showed us to our rooms and gave us the necessary run-down of how everything works. We spoke French together and we really liked him and wondered how anyone could find him rude (from another review); perhaps there was a shyness, language barrier or cultural misunderstanding problem, I am uncertain.

Room
Our room was tiny and very dark, which was exacerbated by black walls and the insufficient lighting provided for the room. Additionally, there was not ample storage for all of our clothes, and we both travel extremely light. Storage for toiletries in the bathroom is also lacking, which requires that you place your belongings on the floor. The plus side is that the bed was comfortable but it wasn't a true king-size bed, but rather, two beds pushed together. Lastly, the floors were not cleaned very well. I liked the rain shower but water leaked into the bathroom. We just put towels down but this can be dangerous and an accident waiting to happen.

Image Desired vs Reality
Eme fusion's aim to be an exclusive "quality, chic designer boutique hotel" is sadly unachieved in that the basics and the details have betrayed the caliber of quality it should possess. Merely saying it is a 5 star hotel only baffles visitors as no 5-star hotel would have such a poorly constructed interior that carries all sound and bounces it every which way. From inside our room I could actually hear the conversations of people on the same floor lobby and in the stairwells. The walls are not soundproof, nor are the windows, which is the reason why many people cannot sleep at all here. I've stayed at the Radisson and the Marriott (both 4 star hotels) at the CDG airport in Paris and it's so well insulated you can hardly believe you are next to one of the busiest airports in the world. They are that quiet. The fact that Eme fusion is so centrally located and within close proximity to prodigious activity and noise, is no excuse for this hotel to be so noisy at night that guests cannot sleep. They simply must invest in better quality windows and reinforce the interior walls. I'm sad to say that the image Eme fusion exudes is pretentiousness surrounded in black, cheap plastic.

In our room the walls were black as there was a sort of plastic covering over them. I understand the designer's intention but using plastic as a material, no matter how shiny, evokes a sense and quality of the inexpensive, not to mention environmentally insensitive. Additionally, the furniture and room accessories were shoddily made items (plastic lamp, Ikea-style drawers), hardly the stuff that 5 star hotels are made of. Lastly, there are snacks on the desk, which look like they're complimentary but they aren't. They aren't very good either; I had to throw them out and got charged for it, which I didn't expect.

Breakfast
Everyone on tripadvisor was raving about the breakfast but I think it was less than spectacular. It has potential but must change some things to match its goal of being a 5 star hotel. The juices should be fresh. Sadly, they were instant, or mixed. Even if you mix Tang with fresh orange juice, you can always detect the Tang (or whatever equivalent it was). Apple Juice shouldn't be green, either. There were quite a variety of foods but I'd prefer a smaller selection if it meant that everything was fresh. With so many choices, you can always spot and taste unfresh items. A sad thing for me were the oily, stale churros. I love Spain for the fresh, crispy churros with real hot chocolate. If they can't get a local thing right, they should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps there could be a section with local specialties and labeled so that people know what they are and that they're uniquely Spanish.

FYI: Here's what they offer for breakfast: yogurt, industrial individual box cereals, dried fruit (prunes, apricots) that smelled moldy, instant scrambled eggs (real eggs would be preferable), sausages, bacon, crepes, good cheeses, chorizo and other dried meats, cold cuts, croissants, pain au chocolat, which looked good but were terrible (sorry but I live in France where and we're a bit spoiled with those kinds of pastries), very good breads and a toaster, little sandwiches, fresh and canned fruit, a can of whipped cream (why not fresh whipped cream?), donuts which were pretty good, and an average apple tart. You have to serve yourself coffee from a nespresso type machine (there's only one) or teas (meager selection) or instant hot chocolate (shame!). Since there's only one capsule coffee machine, there is oftentimes a wait. I hate those capsule coffees because I just don't enjoy the taste but they are also a waste. For a hotel of this desired caliber, they should serve the coffee and drinks to the guests just like in other 5 star hotels. Making your own nespresso makes it feel like you're in a cafeteria... or simply at home. I know I'm being extra critical but there are so many staff people just standing around trying to help people (when they really don't need it); they might as well serve drinks and help where help is needed. This is how it's done in hotels all over the world.

Restaurants
Based on the quality of food during breakfast, we weren't inspired to try the hotel's restaurants so I can't really comment on them. What I can say about them is that from the exterior, the design (solid black and sparse) isn't very warm or welcoming and we rarely saw any people in the restaurants.

Lastly, a staff member walked around during breakfast questioning guests about how they felt about the hotel. This, I find, is inappropriate as it's hard to be critical in public, particularly first thing in the morning. I admitted to the guy that it was too noisy for me and that I couldn't sleep because of it, and he feigned surprise, totally pretending his reaction. So fake. I had just heard another guest say the same thing to him so I know he wasn't surprised at all - Then he mentioned that they have earplugs at the reception desk, which didn't help me because that was the day of our departure. While I do appreciate that they are trying to find out how to improve the hotel, they should leave questionnaires in the rooms. People can be much more honest and detailed.
