“Perfect location, great staff”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

We had a small room looking out towards the Cathedral. Perfect location, walked everywhere. Staff extremely helpful, printing routes and maps and we continued our journey to Ronda . Nice breakfast in courtyard. Highly recommend .

Following advice from T A reviews, we stayed at this hotel in February. Its charming layout around an old enclosed patio meant that our room, 204, was peaceful despite the hotel's excellent location in the heart of the lively old Santa Cruz area, only about 200 yards from the Cathedral.
Rooms aren't enormous but who cares when the location is so fantastic. Another really nice touch was afternoon tea (very generous help yourself spread) is provided in the beautiful patio from 4.30 till 6, so when we came back from a hard day's sightseeing, we could relax in comfy chairs, browsing for a restaurant for dinner (free wifi with good connection).
Finally, it's much cheaper to have a tasty Spanish breakfast in the traditional bodega just two steps from the hotel.
Would definitely recommend Casa 1800 !

So after reading the reviews and seeing it in the flesh(the reception and lobby) last year, decided on three nights during the week. Had room 101. Not much natural light as window faced a small courtyard, was offered another room, but that looked out on to a wall of air con units!
So remained in 101, cant say I would have wanted to spend too much time in there other than to sleep, dull and dark. Bath in the room and toilet washbasin behind glass door that didn't give one much privacy, ok for couples, others I think might not like it.
Never got up in time for breakfast, never there for afternoon tea, so cant comment.
Bit noisy in the morning, but what hotels aren't?
Hotel reception mainly good.
So I rated average, but good really, not very good though, given the cost. Great location of course, surrounded by the sites and many Tapas bars etc, if you take the car don't forget its 20 euros a day to park.

The Casa 1800 Hotel is the kind of hotel we really like; not too big, comfortable, elegant décor, interesting architecture, convenient location and thoughtful staff. The location is excellent, at the edge of the old medieval (and very lively) Santa Cruz district, close to the cathedral and the old commercial city center. The hotel offers breakfast (self-served from a plentiful buffet) and also a tea service in the afternoon (also self-served and with plentiful choice). For dinner or lunch, there are plenty of restaurants within short walking distance. When I mentioned to Reception that I found it difficult to work on my computer because of the height difference between the table and the pretty slipper chair in our room, the slipper chair was replaced with a higher straight-backed chair. The work area was then very comfortable; we liked both the hotel and Seville so much that we even extended our stay by another day.

We stayed at the Casa 1800 for six nights in late January/early February 2014 and can't say enough good about it. We had the basic room and it was very comfortable, large by European standards and well-appointed. There are only two drawbacks to the room -- a bathroom door that is not quite full height and therefore does not afford as much privacy as one might like, and the fact that the nearby cathedral goes through a couple of bell-ringing routines every day at 9 am (don't plan to sleep later than that).

The front desk staff were very friendly, spoke good English, and were ready with suggestions for where to dine, see Flamenco performances, etc.

Breakfast was a good value at E8.50 each -- fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage all were available. It is served until 11 am, which was nice. Afternoon tea is free, and is a nice break after a day exploring the city.

The location is about the best you could ask for, right at the entrance to Santa Cruz (the old Jewish quarter of fascinating narrow streets), two blocks from the cathedral and the royal alcazar, and maybe 6 blocks from Plaza San Francisco. Good restaurants are within a block or two. El Pasaje and Azotea were the two best we tried. A number of other tapas bars are on the same block and are good for lunch, though we did not try them for dinner.

When one considers all of this and then looks at the price, the Casa 1800 was an extraordinary value.

We stayed for two nights in this hotel in a room on the ground floor which a small private porch attached to it. This would be a great asset in nice weather. The hotel is tastefully decorated and the service is very good. Rooms are small but of normal size for this category of hotels. Breakfast is basic but a welcome option in rainy weather. Afternoon complimentary tea, coffee, and snacks was a welcome surprise. No lunch or dinner is served in the hotel but you can choose from dozens in the area. The location is everything you could ask for and yet virtually shielded from street noise. Almost everything you want to see is within walking distance. The Alcazar is practically next door as is the cathedral and Giralda. Did not need to use a taxi or train during our stay. Wifi is good in the lobby but very week inside the room.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for any visitor to Sevilla.

Our review is colored by the unfortunate fact that the building next door and right next to our room is completely gutted and being remodeled. We had requested a quiet room but apparently the staff assumed we would always be out during the work hours. We were not told about the work when we checked in on Sunday and only learned of it around 10 a.m. on Monday when a horrendous noise like a floor stripper started next door. However, others staying at the hotel with rooms on the other side were not bothered by the noise, so make your preferences well known when you book and when you check in. All that said, this is a charming boutique hotel in the Santa Cruz area, about a one block walk from the cathedral and Alcázar. Nearby streets are lined with shops, tapas bars and restaurants that offer excellent choices for every meal. Set in an old villa, the hotel rises around a courtyard with exterior room entrances, reminiscent of New Orleans' French Quarter. Both breakfast, which cost us extra, and afternoon tea are served on the ground floor in the courtyard. We booked a Superior room with breakfast online. The room itself was small with a very high beamed ceiling that turned out not to be soundproof when guests above us got up at down. The room is at the end of a hall which was originally wide. The bathroom was added on one side of this hall - it has a W.C. and a shower, both with glass doors, separated in the middle by a small open area with sink set in a counter. This set up does not offer much privacy. It also makes the remaining hallway quite narrow. The bathroom sink is set a bit high for me but was great for my husband at 6'1". But he found the W.C. to be a tight fit. Storage is minimal and consists of a closet set in the end of the added bathroom, behind the shower. Rather than opening into the hallway it opens into the bedroom next to a large chest. It was awkward to get into, and because the closet part is above a refrigerator and the safe, it's not tall enough for long clothes. The room, or bed chamber, itself was very tight quarters for two people. And yet, the Hotel Casa 1800 has it's charms. The young staff at the front desk is enthusiastic if not exactly trained to deal with guests who are unhappy about noise (we could have changed rooms but by the time that was offered, we were planning to leave the next morning and didn't want to bother relocating). Perhaps because of the construction and the time of year, some amenities on the roof top were not offered. The Wi-fi is free, worked well most of the time, and they offer free bottled water. Though limited and set out in a very small side room off the courtyard, the self-serve breakfast was adequate and in a very pleasant setting. And the location really is excellent for visiting old Sevilla.

Room Tip: Ask about the construction next door, and spell out the amount of space you need.
