This is a very stylish hotel in a fantastic location - loads of great tapas bars nearby, and the cathedral and Alcazar Palace are only 5 minutes walk. The front desk staff are charming, friendly and very helpful. First impressions are excellent with a funky atrium and very useable sofas. We had a double standard room, which was of an adequate size and had a reasonably generous bathroom. However, the hotel lets itself down on some impracticalities and a lack of extra touches. There is VERY limited storage space in the bedroom, the pillows contain a hideous foam, the bathroom sliding door was totally stuck open and there's no full-length mirror:- small things but frustrating nonetheless. It's great to have a pool and a rooftop in such a central location, but there are no pool towels provided, and the rooftop area has no bar service, and is all a bit grubby. Even a cold drinks machine on the rooftop would be helpful, as you can bake up there in the heat of the day. We used the hammam and had a very good reasonably priced massage. Once again, this would have been improved if towels had been provided. All in all, it's reasonable value, but with a few extra touches it could be excellent.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel can be a little noisy with late night revellers passing by, although...

The hotel is a less than a year old. It is a stylish boutique hotel - modern within a traditional Moorish structure - in a great location on the edge of the old Jewish quarter and very near the Cathedral. When opened, it's unusual selling features were an open air swimming pool and a rooftop terrace bar with great views.
The strong points are the location and its interiors. The room we had, a Junior Suite, was spacious with a very large bed, lots of storage, and a separate seating area. The reception staff, and in particular Christina and Antonio, were helpful, friendly and patient (especially when, for the second time, I 'broke' the safe). The hotel itself is very spacious, though some would think 'empty' is a better word. Though occupancy is high, perhaps there are too many attractions outside in the centre of Seville - the high concept restaurant is always virtually empty. In addition, don't be fooled into thinking there is still either a rooftop bar, or, as they promise in summertime, live music. The rooftop bar is closed, though you probably wouldn't know that until you tried to get a drink there. You can get a drink but you probably have to ask the receptionist and then take it upstairs yourself. On the other hand the rooftop view is good of the cathedral.

The problem with the hotel is that its ambitions outweigh what it delivers. We had a problem with the air conditioning, which stuck around 23 degrees on day 1, 22 on day 2, 21 on day 3, eventually arriving at 20 on day 4. Given the 34 degrees outside on day 1, a nice 19 degree siesta would have been welcome. The manager and staff variously explained that it was national policy, hotel policy, 'what all Spanish hotels did' (not true, since a nearby hotel's air-con can go down to 17.5) and the position of the room, to explain why it couldn't do want we wanted. Eventually, on day two, they promised to get a technician in to look at the system - but not till the day we left, day five. Not good customer care (I did post a rather upset review about this and was asked to remove it by the manager and so have taken this opportunity to be more considered in my review).
The gap between promise and delivery is particularly shown in understaffing, with helpful, but overstretched, staff sometimes trying to combine reception, concierge, bell boy and waitressing duties at the same time.

In addition there is:
- no translation of the hotel Directory even though the clientele is international
- no in-room facilities for hot drinks
- no access to an iron/iron board
- only Spanish TV stations (despite what the directory says).

While no one expects a boutique hotel to deliver the range of services a big hotel can, they usually succeed when they look after the small details and provide an intimate and personal service. The hotel has potential but has stretched it's ambitions beyond what it can do well and should rethink what it wants to do well, let its clients know and then seek to deliver. It was disappointing that the hotel seemed reluctant to take on and address problems with positive action and preferred to be defensive, dismissive and hope that 'charm' would work instead of air-con. It has all the potential to be a fine hotel but needs more focus and more emphasis on the customer experience.

We spent three nights at this classy, chic hotel. The location is wonderful; the cathedral is nearby, as are a number of nice shops, lively bars and funky restaurants. Staff was accomodating and low-key. We enjoyed the pool during hot afternoons. The rooftop terrace is beautiful, but it would be nice if the bar was set up at night. The views of the Giralda Tower are spectacular from the terrace, and it would be great to enjoy the views and furniture on the terrace with a cocktail. In short, we loved the hotel and would recommend it to anyone. (May not be the best hotel for kids!)

Our 1st stop in Spain on a 11 day trip in July 2011. Spent 2 nights here. Excellent location in the heart of Barrio de Santa Cruz in the beautiful city of Seville. Funky, modern & clean. Decor is a bit dark so the room could use another lamp as well as an additional mirror outside of the bathroom. Wifi only works in the inner courtyard/lobby area - but it is a nice place to sit & enjoy. Breakfast was expensive for what you get but adequate. Other cafes & Starbucks are close by so something to keep in mind. Staff are helpful & made great recommendation for dining. Roof top deck was lovely with views of the Giralda Tower. Location can't be beat!

It is difficult not to be impressed when you arrive at the Fontecruz hotel in Seville. It has an impressive reception area, with good looking staff, and an incredibly nice smell. Similarly, when you enter you main section of the hotel and the room itself - even for seasoned travellers like ourselves you enjoy a little luxury once in a while - were pleased with our decision.

The hotel is very stylish and, as I am sure many other reviewers will testify, the location is as good as it gets, simply a couple of minutes from the main sites, and some good restaurants and tapas bars.

The highlight of the hotel has to be its room terrace, stunning views of the cathedral and a panorama of the city. However, the jewel in this hotel's crown doesn't shine nearly as brightly as it should. Every time we went up onto the room terrace it was dirty with empty glasses and bottles everywhere, and despite being there from 11am - 5pm some days we didn't see a single member of staff come and clear them away. In fact, the terrace needs a little love, the furniture is damaged in places, waterlogged, dirty and has lost its paint. This may sound petty, but for 100 - 150 euros a night and for a top end hotel, this isn't good enough.

They also claim to have a bar on the roof but was nowhere to be seen - in fact no one ever came up and offered us drinks, guests were required to go down themselves and get them, again not meet the service we'd have expected.

Also, the ambient music, whilst lovely during the day, was a little too loud at night. We couldn't understand why they didn't turn it down late at night. Twice we had to ask them to switch it off, both occasions were between 1am - 2am.

The Fontecruz is a lovely hotel, stylish and sophisticated, and is a great base for exploring, but its roof terrace and service did let it down. Presenting us with a 20% discount off our next visit to a Fontecruz hotel was a nice touch, but would need to be valid for 12 - 18 months to encourage us to stay with them again.

Basically, this is a good for a week end but to rest and if you are looking for something charming. Design but not charming. Our room was small but ok. The bathroom was nice, the pool is nice but sunny only in the morning until 1 pm. On the roof, you can rest on the sofa and the view is amazing (just in front of the cathedral). By the way the bar is closed there. The price is very good and the service is good. This is not charming but never mind, we got exactly what we expected.

Great location so close to castle and cathederal, tapas and sangria all around, good comfy bed, big bathroom. Check in quick and fast. We had third floor room. Didn't use the pool in a downstairs courtyard, bit dark only one or two beds I think but we did lie on the massive lovely upstairs roof terrace which has some great beds/seats. We also stayed at the Casa 1800 on the same trip after visiting Cadiz by train and I think the Fontecruz is much better value (we had an early booking discount) its just you don't get those extra touches - slippers, robes and afternoon tea . The roof terrrace here is certainly better and you get the pool too if you want it.
