Owner description: The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville, founded in 1839, contains a collection of works from medieval times through the early 20th century. It displays a choice selection of works by Spanish artists from the 17th century, the so-called Golden Age of Sevillian painting. Monday Closed

Usually I love wandering round galleries but found this one to be very monotonous with lots of very similar artworks, and nothing to my taste,
It is housed in a lovely building with pleasant cool courtyards to escape the hot sun.

Superb paintings by Murillo amongst others, laid out over several floors and rooms. Spacious and well lit with easy access. There are lockers near the entrance hall to leave your bags in, and clean toilets should you need them. Small gift shop within the Museum selling related gifts.

Nicely arranged gallery, would have been nice to have a little more 19th and maybe 20 th century art, although I suppose those are housed elsewhere

Very pleasant setting, a nice square faces the museum. Entrance €1.50 and it's open all day. You'll be asked to check bags other than a handbag, in lockers. The loos are located by the entrance.

The entrance area has some smashing ancient, tiled frescoes and the courtyard gardens are similarly surrounded by ancient tiled walls, dating back to its days as a monastery.
Don't get too excited, as this is it on the tiles front within the museum.

There some benches dotted round the small-walled courtyards so you can sit and enjoy.

Paintings with a religious theme totally dominate all the ground floor rooms. And similarly, a number of rooms on the upper floor.

Rooms around 12, 13 and 14 have some refreshing paintings depicting Sevillian life, as flamenco dancers, singers, matadors, young wine seller, couples, families, and life in general. Dating from 1620s to late 1800s. Smashing.

This museum covers all you need to know about the history of art in the area. Well presented and relevant to Seville’s past and present.
