Centrally located to the vibrant areas of Seville. Wonderful staff were very helpful in helping us get around town, recommend great restaurants and attractions as well as guiding me to a nearby laundrymat rather than paying for the hotel to send it out. Each floor features a Spanish artists work on every room door, a great touch! Rooms were quite spacious by European standards with an oversized bathtub/shower and really comfy bed. Only negative is the breakfast is nothing to get excited over.

This is a large Gracious building with an opulent lobby. Unfortunately, as you enter the automatic sliding glass doors, you are hit with a smell that is overpowering and offensive. The carpeting leading up to the spacious lobby is rather worn and definitely needs replacing. The lobby itself was well decorated with a very large hanging chandelier above a round seating area surrounded by red chairs that were rather unique in shape.

The reception area is wide open with seats facing a three different desks. The hostess we encountered offered us a glass of champagne, which we immediately embraced. After a brief chit chat, we were assigned our room, which unfortunately wasn't yet ready for occupancy. This allowed us a bit if time to wander through the city which like most European cities was a maze of streets going in uneven directions. Non the less, we had no trouble since we have traveled to Italy 3 times where the same situation happens.

Upon getting back to the hotel, we were given our room keys. As we entered the elevator, the lighting was in a pale yellow color, which changed anything blue that you were wearing to green. it was weird at first until you go used to it.

As we got off the elevator, we were directed to our numbered room and as we made a right hand turn into a hall way, we saw a very large religious wall painting. After we made another right hand turn, we discovered that it wasn't at all a wall painting, but it was a door painting. All the doors had a different religious painting covering the entire doors. Very different in terms of decorating. I turned out that each floor had a different theme, ours was religion.

The room was very spacious, but the bathroom left a lot to be desired. Although they had a double sink, the sinks and the rest of the bathroom is ultra modern in an opulent hotel. A real conflict of design. The sinks were longer sideways than front to back giving you needed space to wash. the problem was that the faucet was on the side of the narrow sink, and every time we tried to wash, water splattered all over the place.

The commode and the bidet had a square seat to it, making it difficult to get used to it. The shower was another disappointment, it almost took an licensed engineer to figure out how to operate the water supply, with no place to hang towels while in use either by the shower or the sinks.

All that put aside, the hotel itself is in a terrific location, the service was excellent, and the morning breakfast went beyond the normal European typical cold cuts and coffee. If we ever return to Seville, we would definitely stay there again, and it is a place well worth considering.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river.

Our group arrived in two cars and the front Bellmen did an excellent job with our bags. The front desk continued with a welcome drink and seating to check in. We found all the staff warm, welcoming and helpful.

Our room was a nice size but a little strange with a white fabric curtain sliding across the glass wall from the bedroom to shower area. The switches to turn off and on the lights were a little difficult because one night we could not get a light off and had a staff member come up to help and he just recycled them.

My one negative would be the shower. It was in a very high tub with a small step and a fixed half glass wall. You could not turn on the water because how far it was from the opening. Getting in to and out of the tub was dangerous for an older person because there were NO grab bars. If you have any issues with this I would see if they have other rooms available.

The location of the hotel was excellent and easy walking distance to the sights. It was in a walking pedestrian mall with great shopping. We found a really great Italian Restaurant about 10 minutes from the hotel, El Visuvio. Some of the best we've had outside of Italy.

By this time in our trip, some of the group wanted something other than tapas. The hotel called a local Irish pub and arranged for them to turn a TV to an American football game for the group. What a great experience for our group and good food, we returned twice.

Helpful service always with a smile at this hotel and NO request was overlooked. I would stay again and recommend it to friends and clients.

Room Tip: Beware of the hight tub with an outside step to get into the shower....there were NO grab bars to hold onto..not safe.

While the Philip Starck decor at the Gran Melia Colon is a bit glitzy for my taste, the rooms are very well appointed and wifi works well. Clarins toiletries in the bathroom are great and the state-of-the-art air conditioning is simple to use and works perfectly, enabling you to get what you want- not always easy. The breakfast is absolutely fantastic but the trump card at this hotel is the staff who are unfailingly courteous and friendly. The location is excellent and while €34 parking may seem expensive, to park in the public car park nearby you will pay around €24 for 24 hours and won't get valet parking, as we discovered.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed. The service is excellent and in particular the breakfast staff, lady who greets you at breakfast was just lovely and so sweet! The accommodation is very stylish and practical too with loads of storage for cloths etc. Next time in Seville we will be staying here without hesitation as long as price is right of course! Only slight negative is no pool but a really excellent large jacuzzi on the roof top. Thanks to all the lovely team who work here they know what customer service means and make your stay here perfect. Melia at it's best

Room Tip: Higher up gets some views, but all rooms I think have excellent sound proofing
