This hotel isn’t perfect, but it is very good. Here’s what you need to know.
Location -- before going I was a little worried about whether this would be too far from the main sights. It’s not. The historical part of Sevilla is fairly small, and it’s a short walk everywhere. Personally, I don’t think being in the Santa Cruz area would be an advantage (though I don’t think it would be a problem either -- again, it’s a small city). Cost to get to the hotel from the train station is 7 to 10 euros in a taxi.
Lobby -- what a beautiful lobby. One of the most beautiful entrances I’ve seen in a European hotel. The rest of the hotel is nice, but the lobby is especially nice, and really feels luxurious.
Staff -- staff was very friendly. They go out of their way to greet you when you enter the hotel, offering you champagne, etc. It’s a small touch, but nice. The enthusiasm disappears once you’re actually checked in, but they remain friendly the entire time.
Room -- we had what I believe is the most basic room, the Deluxe room, and it was great, so I imagine the other rooms are even more fantastic. Large size, particularly for Europe. Modern design. The bathroom was large as well. Large enough to have two sinks and a separate area for the toilet. One strange thing about the bathroom is that the wall between the room and the bathroom is glass, with a curtain on the room side. This wasn’t an issue, but for some people it might be too strange. Nice products are provided in the bathroom. The room safe was a nice size.
The pretty good:
Spa/gym -- there is indeed a spa area with a tiny gym. I can imagine that in slightly warmer weather the sun deck would be nice to sit at. Overall, having a spa like this, with nice views of Sevilla is great. My issues with it are this. (a) there weren’t enough towels (b) the entire deck/hot tub area was very dark at night. Maybe there’s a light that I missed, but everybody was out there on the wet area in the dark, which seems like an accident waiting to happen.
Wifi -- Wifi was down or basically down for half of our stay. The hotel said that this was due to a larger, neighborhood-wide issue. I don’t know if this is true or not, but either way it was frustrating and annoying. They seemed apologetic, but not as frustrated as I would’ve expected.
Pillows -- the provided pillows are weak and not good enough. Fortunately, they have a pillow menu with good options.
Went into the closet to get an extra blanket and found a white blanket that had visible blood and urine stains. Gross, to say the least.
