“Great location in old town.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

I visited over Holy Week. Seville was wonderful at this time. Hotel was ideal location close to action but enough away that you could escape as well. Restaurant was very good. Room onEl Greco floor was a little small but had a wonderful balcony. What I liked best about the hotels as the staff, from top to bottom, they were friendly, and made toy fell welcome and comfortable.

Room Tip: Because of time of year and when I booked I had a standard room. Upgrades were not available. Woul...

We stayed in room 519, where we had a huge balcony with panoramic views of the city. The room was not terribly large, but suitable. The shower was awesome, huge shower head. Check in was super easy, and accompanied by Cava. Concierge service was good when you were in person, however, we asked the woman checking us in to look into something, which she said she would, and then never got back to us, and the next day, we called down asking them to make a reservation, which they also didn't get back to us. However, when we asked in person, they handled things immediately.

The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the old town sights, but super convenient for Triana, which is more of a late night place, and I preferred to walk shorter distances at night (not that Seville is an unsafe place at all). It's also close to the bull fighting arena, which we did not go to.

Room Tip: 519 seems to have a larger balcony than others.

This was a great stay! The hotel staff- especially Celia- was very helpful. The rooms were clean and bathrooms nice. The beds were hard (i like a soft bed) but cant complain when over seas. The bar downstairs was a great place to sit and watch world world cup. Also good location to walk by river. Plaza del toros and alcazar.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Gran Melia Colon - check in was easy and all of the staff that we encountered during our stay were fabulous. The hotel amenities were very nice and we also enjoyed the rooftop hot tub. The breakfast was extensive and delicious and again, all the staff was wonderful. I have to thank Amanda for being so gracious upon checking in and Cristina for her help with some room-related stuff. I would go back in a heartbeat. Also, the bathrobes are a real treat.

There are some very good things about the Gran Melia Colon, excellent location, great breakfasts, wonderful restaurant, helpful concierge staff and the rooftop hot tub that are offset by small rooms and a bathtub/shower that is difficult to enter unless you are young, tall and athletic. Indeed staff told me that all the baths in the hotel would be replaced. Our room had a great view but was adjacent to a church clock that chimed the hour except between 10.00pm and 7.00am so an afternoon nap was likely to be brief.

We stayed at Gran Melia Colon in Seville for four nights in May. The hotel is a grand old building which stands out at the bottom of the beautiful Calle San Eloy. We were met by the doorman on the corner outside the hotel, who took our name and arranged our bags to be taken to our room. Inside the hotel we were checked in efficiently and then escorted to our room - a really nice touch and something which rarely happens in other hotels.

Our room on the 6th floor was lovely, with a double balcony looking out over the city (a great panoramic view). The rooms only have two downsides - firstly the lighting - as many people have already mentioned, the lighting system is overly complicated and not required...(our lights actually broke during the stay where by we couldn't turn them off at night time - this was however fixed very quickly by a technician. The second problem with the rooms are the bath / showers. As the screen is badly designed, lots of water escapes when having a shower and we needed to put towels on the floor to prevent the whole room becoming flooded.

The real positive from this hotel though is the service! It's extremely rare that a hotel really stands out for its customer service, but that is absolutely the case at Gran Melia Colon. We asked Maria on the red glove desk to assist us in picking things to do and see in the city as well as making restaurant reservations, and she was absolutely brilliant. Maria was so willing to help us and took 15 minutes to tell us all about the city. The hotel also made a reservation for us at the Turkish baths in the town, and whilst we were out exploring the city, the hotel sent a letter to our room with the confirmation of the booking and a map to help us get to the location - absolutely first class service.

The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city. It's not bang in th centre of the 'old town' , more so at one side of the old town - but it's close to the shopping areas and only a short walk from the main sites.

Can't recommend the hotel enough if you're planning a stay in Seville - the service alone makes this place stand out from the rest.

The Gran Melia Colon is a very nice place to stay when you are in Seville. The location is within somewhat lengthy walking distance of the major sights in the city, the rooms are quite nice and the staff was very helpful. The hotel served a very nice breakfast and the halls for the rooms are done in a very interesting manner, with each room door done as a painting by a Spanish artist, one artist per floor.

The workout room was a letdown, with a few cardio machines, a few light dumbells and no space to use them.

All in all, no major drawbacks. Good value. Recommended.
