Travelling as a family of 5 ( 2 adults & 3 boys aged 15, 14 & 11) we had just done the long drive from The Ritz in Madrid ( stunning to here). The photos on the web site are just smoke and mirrors. This place is NOT 5 stars. It's in a poor location and if you are driving there then it's very hard to pull up and park with rubbish porter service. They took our keys eventually left the car unlocked with out luggage in it so we had to send our sons down to watch over our stuff in 37 degree heat. They informed us it would be 37 euro to park the car for each of the 3 nights we were there but the public car park right behind the hotel only charged 18 euro for every 24 hours!
The reception: watch for the glass of champagne they offer you to let you down slowly re the rooms which are crap. We paid for a "red room" supposedly amazing but they are small pokey rooms. The bed was a queen size, the lamp stand broken and biro/ pen scribble all over the white vinyl couch. Despite asking for interconnecting several months our kids were put on a different level. Then on the same level but at opposite ends of the hotel. Fed up we asked for an upgrade to the penthouse. We arrived and that was better until sewerage leaked from the loo into the bath and then into my shower!!! The bathrooms are not cleaned well with soap scum around the rim in all 3 rooms! Coffee pods were missing, no bottled water. No concierge but a duty manager. Eventually we were moved again to level 4, by then I just didn't care. We had wasted an entire day playing musical rooms!
The buffet breakfast is average. The toaster is very slow so get ready to put it through at least x4. Blow fly in the tapas section- pass!
If you are a mid-high income family use to 5 star luxury accommodation this isn't the place for you. Get yourself over to Hotel Alfonso X111 which is right near the Alcazare etc. oh how we wished we'd stayed there like all the savvy Americans. Next time!
Currently going through the process of them refunding us 25% of our hotel fee plus 1 free night accommodation in the Penthouse that exploded poo. Colon by name and colon by nature.
