“Great view, historical but dated with little improvements and bad pool chairs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2011

If you are planning to stay at the Dona Maria, know that it has an amazing view of the cathedral and is a very special place. However, don't expect any renovations, it is older but very comfortable. It is a good value and if you want really modern try the EME hotel close by. We had three people and it was the largest room we stayed in during out trip through Barcelona, Granada, Seville and Madrid. Our room was on the far side of the hotel and the wifi did not work there, we had to go down the hall. The hotel pool is great but they keep then tables and chairs set up all the time so it is a tight squeeze for the pool chairs and they are in very poor condition. But if you want to enjoy a siesta you can't complain as you look directly at the Cathedral. Overall a good place to stay. Side note on Seville, the carriage ride is a nice in the evening. Dont' miss Extraverde restaurant! We went there twice!

Room Tip: We paid $120E for a triple room. Was a good rate compared to the others we looked at

Fantastic location just opposite the cathedral in the middle of old town. The staff is great and very helpful, the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are nicely decorated and clean! We had a room on the top floor just a few steps away from the pool. We had a patio of our own where we could sit in the sun in the afternoon or just sit and drink a glass of wine in the nighttime(it was the only room on this floor to have this patio). The aircon is very quiet and efficient- so I don't understand why anyone would need to open any windows..? I also like the fact that this hoel isn't part of a big chain, but privately owned and has been a palace owned by the family for a long time. It has personality!
When we were in Seville it was 40C and we really needed the pool to cool off after some sightseeing, so it was great. Nice view from the pool too. It was nice to have such a great location because we could go out for a meal and go back to the hotel in between things we did if we wanted to use the toilet or get something.
Seville is a nice city with a lot to see and good shopping.
Make sure you go to confiteria Ochoa on sierpes 45 for a great applecake and good coffee!
There is also a great italian place around the corner from the hotel in the old banios if you get fed up with the omnipresent tapas...
A hotel I would go back to anytime and I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I were to go to Seville again!

From the location of the hotel to the professionalism of the staff - this has to be the best hotel we have stayed in in Seville. An evening visit to the rooftop bar is a must - the view of the floodlit Cathedral is wonderful. Can highly recommend the 'agua de Sevilla' cocktail too. We would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: From what I could see, all the rooms looked similar. There must have been soundproofing as we did n...

The hotel is right on the main square, so in an amazing location. One can sit on the roof terrace and get an astounding view of the cathedral.
This said, the accommodation is quite bad. The room I was given had a window that couldn't be opened properly on an internal "yard". I only got the noise and the smell of fried fish from the kitchen. The weather was hot, so I didn't enjoy this smell. I was on the last floor, so I could hear people passing by to go to the roof. Very noisy both during the day and in the morning. I could only get an internet signal in the bathroom.

Stayed here with my 10 year old daughter. It was very hot, and the pool was a welcome treat after days of touring. The staff was very friendly and helpful,vEnglish speaking! Our room was very nice with new linens, hardwood floors and marble baths. We did not get breakfast because it was pricey, but cheap breakfast available steps away from the hotel. A/c worked great and we did not encounter any of the problems written in the negative reviews. I am guessing it has been refurbished since those reviews were written in 2005.

I couldn't fault this hotel. The whole place was spotless and very friendly maids cleaned and tidied the room everyday. We had a room on the first floor with a balcony looking onto the plaza and the cathedral which was perfect, I don't think the photos really did it justice as it was all much better than we expected - although the décor is exactly as pictured!

The terrace and swimming pool were incredible, despite the size of the hotel the pool was always peaceful and quiet, and the view is probably the best in Seville. The bar was very nice but pricey, but what do you expect for a rooftop bar in the centre of the old town? However no one seems to mind you taking your own drinks up to the swimming pool which in Summer is open until 8.

The best part of the hotel is without doubt its location, which couldn't be better. Everything is in walking distance, the square is very atmospheric, the barrio de Santa Cruz is right on your doorstep as is the Alcazar and the Cathedral. La hospital de los venerables is round the corner and the main high street is a five minute walk away.

I should mention that we got a very good deal on this hotel through 'otel.com', and that we paid considerably than the hotel actually charges. If you pay full price then you're really paying for the location. To sum up, Dona Maria is ideal for those wanting to combine a city centre holiday with a relaxing, sitting in the sun kind of holiday.

This hotel was wonderful. Our room was beautifully appointed with antique furnishings and the bathroom was all new and spacious. The Hotel is in a former mansion and each of its 64 rooms is decorated differently and name for an author. The location could not be more convenient for touring - just near the Cathederal. The rooftop bar was a magical place at night overlooking the illuminated Cathederal. Breakfast was included and was just fine. The staff was friendly and helpful. We really loved this Hotel.
I would not recommend driving here however. Driving in central Seville is very restricted and while they do have a small garage it's difficult to get to.

Room Tip: The website has photos of many of the rooms.
