“Pleasant stay, but slightly disappointing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2014

This was the second Melia hotel we have stayed in, booked following a wonderful stay in a Level room at the Melia Berlin in 2013. The Berlin hotel had raised our expectations to a high level, but unfortunately we ended up a little disappointed in Seville.

As other correspondents have noted, the exterior of the hotel is in very poor condition, in contrast to the impressive and ultra-modern refurbished interior. Room 733 faced west with a good view over the Plaza Espana and was at first sight finished to a high standard, with particularly comfortable beds, but some items, such as the flimsy sliding wardrobe doors, will have a very short working life. We were also unable to master the bizarre lighting system, which seemed to have a life of its own – we recall that we also had issues in Berlin, so maybe this is a Melia feature! More seriously, the air conditioning system did not permit a reduction below 19 degrees C. The staff claimed that this should not be a problem, but this is far too hot for anyone from a cooler climate. We were able to open the window, but the opening mechanism was very old and inadequate, and there was substantial traffic noise.

Our main disappointment was the Level arrangement. The Berlin hotel had the Level dining room on the same high floor as the bedrooms, with very easy access, and was airy and relaxing. In Seville, the Level dining area was a dismal little room behind the Level reception, next to a small sitting lounge. Neither room had any daylight, and the overall feeling was that of a gloomy basement, not what is needed in a bright, sunny city. Most of the time we used the rooms we were the only people present, other than the helpful reception staff. The food and drink provision was very limited, in contrast to the excellent range of offerings in Berlin, but perhaps not surprising in view of the very few guests using the Level. We abandoned breakfast in here after a gloomy first morning, and used the bright and spacious main buffet room for the rest of our stay. Whilst there might be some advantage to the business traveller, the extra cost of the Level in this hotel has little benefit to the holiday visitor.

This hotel is in good walking distance to city centre and main areas within Seville. Very nice rooms, only suggestion is the layout of bath/shower - difficult to access towels and maneuver around small space. Friendly, helpful staff with a lovely lobby, bar area

Good value, stayed 4 nights, no complaints, rooms as described and staff very helpful. Good hotel bar next to reception and nice lobby area to wait and relax. Location is good, though there is 10-15 min walk required to the main commercial streets but this is not an issue for most people. We didn't ever need to use taxis in the evening, we were able to walk home from most central restaurants in around 20 minutes. Maybe next time I would pay extra to stay right in the centre but over 3-4 days you have plenty of time to see all the main sights.

We stayed in this lovely hotel for 4 nights. The hotel lobby is large and modern having recently been renovated. We had a level room with a view on floor 7 and the view over Plaza De Espana was fantastic. It was quite noisy as the road is busy but for us the views outweighed the noise element. The room was a good size, clean and modern with a large very comfortable bed. The bathroom had 2 sinks a bath with shower and also a separate shower. We had breakfast in the large breakfast room, lots of choice and all very well presented. We made good use of the level lounge with its snacks and drinks and found the level employees friendly, helpful and professional. We used the hotel restaurant for 2 nights and found the food and service excellent, would recommend and was pleasantly surprised with the cost. The hotel is close to Plaza De Espana but around a 15-20 minute walk into the centre. The lighting was a little hard to fathom out but got the knack in the end! Only one negative for us was the air conditioning, the room was very hot with the air con on full so we slept with the window open, this was fine in March but in the height of the season maybe the heat would be a little uncomfortable for us.All in all a minor niggle for us and if we were to visit Seville again would definitely consider staying here again.

Room Tip: High floor rooms with a view are great but also quite noisy.

I had stayed at the Melia Sevilla by myself in November of 2011, and recently returned with family to enjoy Sevilla and this hotel. We upgraded to two Level rooms and were also able to enjoy the amenities of the Level Lounge. On this trip we all enjoyed breakfast in the larger dining room and were very impressed with the selections and quality of food. As before , a highlight of our visit was the wonderful welcome and care we were given by the staff in the Level Lounge. Everyone is so professional and willing to help in any way, especial Carmen, who really makes you feel like family!! She is simply amazing!!! I look forward to my next stay at the Melia Sevilla very soon!!!

Room Tip: The higher the better. Upgrade to a Level Room if you can!!

Great location, amazing service and hospitality was stellar! The employees seem to make it a personal goal of theirs to accommodate to my needs. The view was amazing as well as the location! I can't wait to visit again in the summer!

When approaching this hotel by taxi you wonder in what kind of hotel you'll be located, an old-style Soviet building? The paint is peeling, and needs a major overhaul.
However, inside it is quite well refurbished. Same for the rooms, nicely and modern decorated, except for the windows, which still have an old fashion aluminium casting. You need to use quite some force to open the window, at least in my room 1134.
What I didn't like about this room is its lighting. There are 15 knobs and about 20 lightbulbs, but after the 4 days I stayed here I still couldn't figure out which knob to use for which light. And the light intensity is very low. I never managed to get good lighting while reading in bed.
As I like to sleep with the window open, you get the noises from the street of course. That doesn't bother me too much, but what bothered me was the noise of the pedestrian traffic lights. They keep on ringing when the light is green, and you even hear it on the highest floor; 11th.
I was also disappointed that the swimmingpool was not open.
Still, I gave this hotel 4 dots because the rooms are quite ok with very comfy beds.
And of course, the breakfast is marvelous. Huge, with plenty of choice. I just missed my Nutella :)
Location is good with the famous Plaza de Espana just across the street.

Room Tip: Even on the highest floor you'll get less traffic noise, but don't take a room with a number...
