Owner description: Beyond the Iberian peninsula most people are rather uncomfortable about bullfighting, which makes a visit to this venerable bullring with attached museums all the more fascinating – not least for those who would never consider attending a bullfight. An inspection of the ring, and the backstage facilities that sustain it (the Plaza, of necessity, has its own ER) is a good counterpoint to a browse around a museum which is full of artwork and costumes celebrating the skill of the matador together with the mounted heads of their animal nemeses. Go with an open mind and you’ll leave with a much better understanding of bullfighting’s place in the life and culture of Andalucía.

We were lucky enough to be in sevilla on a sunday night and were able to see a bull fight.
After being concerned about how disturbing it would be, we decided to go. Very thankful we did. It was grueling at times to watch, but watching the matadors guide the team to get the result they wanted showed that it is a bit of an art. Its not just about killing the bull. Worth watching but maybe do the museum first so you know the background and technique first.

If you are fortunate enough to be in Seville when there is a bull fight, you should get a cheap ticket. If they are fights with young and up and coming matadors, the tickets will be cheaper (mine was 17 euros bought online). It is a quintessential Andalusian experience and the second oldest ring in Spain (Ronda I think is older). Regardless of how you feel ethically about the event, it is an important cultural event and something a lot of the locals take seriously. They do kill the bulls. And the night I went they killed 6 of them. One of the matadors was flipped by the bull, landed underneath it and the bull pounced on him. Some of it was troubling, but there certainly is a pomp to it all with live music and a team of matadors that work together to disorient the bull. There are also men dressed in gold lame clothing who come out on horses wearing gold protective armor.

The bull ring itself is awesome to visit and the guided tour puts the art into a cultural and historical perspective.

We arrived for the last tour of the day and joined several others who had a very hurried visit by a disinterested tour guide who was keen to lock up. The bullring is very impressive but the 'museum' contains little apart from a few matador costumes and paintings.

The first 5 minutes are inside the seats of the bull ring but the rest is underneath with a painting gallery and a museum of history of the bullring. To enter you must be with a tour. I think 45 minutes in this tour is too long. You may not enter the ground of the ring. 20 minutes of the entire museum would do including the time needed for the ring.

I would pay the entrance fee, see the ring, and move on. Tours start every 20-30 minutes. There are vending machines in the waiting area for the tour.
