“Complacent in a good location.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2011

Sadly the owners of this well located Hostel seem to of become a tad complacent as it always seemed to be full.
It is really well located and despite this central location, doesn't seem to suffer too much from late night noise issues.
As others have mentioned, the air-con is an issue. It is an old, seemingly centrally controlled system that you seem to be forever asking the staff to turn on, which of-course, they get bored of.
The wireless internet seemed to get less powerful the further away from reception you got.
Be very specific about which type of room you want, i.e. twin or double, put it in capital letters in as many places as possible when booking through 3rd parties, as they don't always pay the attention that they need too when dealing with these bookings.
We were given a twin when we'd clearly asked for a double and I was told that there was no alternative.. until my Spanish speaking girlfriend arrived, then nothing seemed to be too much trouble?
Value- wise, it would be fair value if the owners invested in better air-con & internet, instead of penny-pinching.
The staff do keep it very clean.

Room Tip: The double room above the Reception is actually a very nice room with reasonable air-con (when switc...

I stayed there during the Feria. It was one of the few available hotels that did not cost a fortune and I realized why the instant that I saw the place. The room was terribly hot...which I found ironic since there is a big sign that says air conditioned in front of the hotel! There was something in the air inside the room that triggered some allergic reaction because I couldn't stop sneezing. At night I could hear everything that was going on in the hallway and the rooms next door. You would say that the walls (and doors) are made of papier maché! To make matters worst, one morning, I was awaken by loud bangs and metal tins being pushed around on the roof at 8 AM and the next morning at around the same time the cleaning ladies started to bang around the place.
I had the strange feeling that only an older couple, one or two other people and I were the only guests; I wasn't so sure about everyone else! (Take that comment for what it's worth).
In the end, it's not the cleanest place out there, it's not that close to the center, the noise is intolerable, there is no TV or phone, don't even mention internet access! It's a complete dump!
DON'T STAY THERE!!!!

Very good place to be a hostal. Private bathroom and clean rooms. No breakfast, but near there are many coffee shops. The staff was very kind and helpful everytime. And is located in the historical center of seville, 12 minutes more or less walking from the cathedral and other monuments.

The Hotel Santa Catalina was not our first choice (lot of inquiries had no
vacancy for the week after the feria), and it proved we have been right.
The only one of the hotels we have booked online who charged our credit
card right upon reservation, and they sure do know why. Would we not have already been charged for the room, we would not have stayed one night there. The all present dust surely comes from the current construction sites outdoor - the street and the Santa Catalina church next door - but the hotel itself is very basic with small rooms and even smaller bathrooms with not even a curtain for the shower, means you have to clean the whole deluge after each use of the shower. We had some sort of a very small balcony to the street, which perhaps is as nice as they make believe you on their website - just we did not see it for the construction work. But it was very very noisy with some kind of a bar/kiosk just below our window. And then the window was double barred with security locks etc. like in a prison - and like in a prison was also the furniture. The hotel looks nice and friendly on their website, but reality is something else and the staff with exception of the night concierge was not friendly and helpful at all. They do not offer breakfast at all and you have to park your car in a horrible but expensive public underground parking in the same quarter. The only advantage of this place is it's proximity to the bar El Rinconillo, the oldest tapas bar in town (from 1670) and the most atmospheric one. Even with the construction site all around, the bar was crowded with locals and tourists alike.
