“Loved the Alminar”
Reviewed 12 January 2009

The Alminar is a true gem of a hotel. It is so well located, just steps away from the cathedral and many other sites. What makes the Alminar so special is the staff. Everyone we spoke with was friendly, resourceful, spoke English and gave wonderful guidance and recommendations. We want to give special recognition to Boni. He is genuinely interested in making sure the hotel guests are happy and enjoying their stay. The hotel is small, only 12 rooms. Not fancy, but immaculate and well tended. We stayed in the only triple. The breakfast is 6 Euros. Self service and plenty to eat. The convenience is worth it. There are also complementary beverages available throughout the day.

This was a fantastic hotel in Seville. We stayed in Room 31 which had a nice view of the Cathedral. The hotel is very centrally located and nothing that we wanted to do was more than a 15-20 minute walk. The front desk staff was wonderful. Every person we spoke with (there were 4 in all) had great recommendations for places to eat, were happy to provide directions, etc. etc. I really appreciated that they provided recommendations that weren't "touristy" and really gave us an "authentic" Seville experience. If you're going to Seville, I can't recommend the Hotel Alminar enough!

Hotel Alminar is a very charming small hotel, very very close (as in maybe a 100 yards walk down a pedestrian only street) to Seville's two main sites, the Cathedral and Alcazar. You can catch a taxi for about 5 Euros from the train station and then have a short walk to the hotel entrance. Breakfast was nice each morning (I think it was about 8 Euros extra), plus they have a great coffee and espresso machine and tea and cold water that is available in the kitchen area for free at any time of day or night. The room was very clean and a decent size, with a bathroom off a hallway and an excellent shower. Francisco at the front desk was one of the highlights of our two nights' stay at Hotel Alminar. He provided us with a map and some basic information about the city upon our arrival, including some restaurant recommendations. Even more, at breakfast and in the afternoons, he was very fun to talk with, and just a great ambassador for the city and the property. The location, friendliness and charm made this a perfect place for our stay in Sevilla. Our only disappointment was not being able to stay longer.

I was studying abroad in Seville and my friend was coming to visit me. I needed to find him a hotel that was in close proximity to everything in el Centro in Seville and one where he got a good taste of Sevillano hospitality.

He loved it here! Francisco at the front desk is amazing and is there to help with anything - he was a great help to my friend because while I was in school during the day, my friend wanted to explore - Francisco knew what directions to point him in and gave him all the information he needed.

The hotel has such a great feel as it is pretty small and has beautiful views - the quality is amazing and you truly feel like there is only one place where you could possibly be when you are staying there - in Seville, Spain.

There’s a reason this hotel is ranked #1 of all hotels in Seville. Yes, the rooms are nice and the location is unbeatable, but the management and staff really make the hotel the gem that it is. Francisco (GM) was very pleasant and welcoming, and Maria was lovely, offering great suggestions for where to eat and more importantly, where to shop! They also steered us to less touristy places, which I prefer. I can honestly say that I’ve never received such personal, friendly attention at any other hotel that I’ve ever stayed at.

We were also really pleased with our room (#32). It was spacious and had hardwood floors - a very welcome change from the usual gross hotel room carpet. The bathroom was also quite big, very modern and very clean. It unfortunately didn’t have an exhaust fan and the toiletries weren’t the greatest, but they did the job. Being on the top floor, we had the added bonus of a private terrace with an incredible view of the Giralda – fantastic, especially at night.

If you’re in search of a high-end, luxury hotel, Alminar isn’t for you. However, if you plan to truly explore Seville and not spend all day/night in your room, I think you’ll be happy here. Plus, I doubt you will find this kind of first rate personable service elsewhere.

The Hotel Alminar was even better than we hoped it would be. With twelve rooms in a prestigious area (at the foot of the Giralda Cathedral), we were in awe of the location. Having the good fortune of being on the 3rd floor with the terrace where we ended most nights with a bottle of Rioja, where we were surrounded by the lights of the cathedral and the clear skies above. The rooms are modern, maximizing the space of the petite boutique hotel, and very functional. As we discussed with the staff of the hotel, one doesn't stay at the Alminar to spend a great amount of time in the room. The almost perfect location allows the traveler to see all the historic sights by foot. The narrow street ( Alvarez Quintero) provided some sense of privacy versus a larger plaza area. The hotel was perfect for us. We do not like to explore smaller boutique hotels where location is the most important factor.

And the staff! The GM, Francisco, was engaging, informative, multilingual, and a friend we hope to keep. His recommendations were spot-on and outside of the normal tourist attractions. We took the time to purchase some Flamenco music and discovered that our room CD player was not working. By evening when we returned (without fanfare) it was fixed. I speak Spanish but not fluently so if was nice to speak both English and Spanish. Maria is delightful and charming. Her suggestions for food were phenomenal. Heed them! She spent so much time with us that we felt we were the only persons in the hotel. And the others, Boni and Jose, Julia, etc. treat you like friends and no request is too big. The best staff of any hotel we have ever stayed in.

We hope you have the good fortune of staying at Hotel Alminar. We are in our forties and very mobile, active, and adventurous so if this fits your profile, then this is your place.

We chose this hotel based on it's Number 1 rating on TA . It is a good hotel with excellent service and an excellent location. However, it does have some problems. To begin with, It could use a little updating. The first floor central area in which you can sit and have breakfast is not in the least bit charming. The dark wood cabinetry gives this small room an even smaller feel. There are colored wicker chairs in this room that are beginning to look faded. There were also small flies on the first floor and most notably during breakfast. I read an earlier report that discussed this fly problem. I would be very upset if I stayed in a first floor room with these flies. I also noticed them in the first floor bathroom and they are very persistent if you try to swat them away. The staff explained that they were due to a change in temperature and that they can be seen everywhere in Seville. However, we did not see this kind of fly elsewhere although some typical flies could be seen while at outdoor restaurtants. However, these were like fruit flies.
We stayed in the two terrace rooms being a family of four with two adult children. The terrace furniture needed replacement. It was faded wood and the slats on a couple of the pieces were buckling. Our room was compact and generally clean. However, the pillows smelled like someone else had slept on the pillows and the cases were not changed. The bedspread also could have used a freshening. The most popular room, 32, was a bit larger but had an awful "dead animal" smell coming out of the bathroom plumbing. The staff attempted to address it but it generally persisted.
The breakfast was sufficient and the coffee/tea machine that was available 24 hours was a nice touch. The mini bar is free the first day but then you are charged from then on. The mini bar consists of two bottles of water and two cans of pop. Our hotel in Madrid, the Preciados, also had a free minibar but it was for your entire stay. It included water, beer, soda, and various juices...much better.
We do appreciate the staff and their outstanding assistance and the location can't be beat. However, this hotel needs to do some updating.
