“Great Atmosphere and good food”
Review of Bar Pelayo

Bar Pelayo
Ranked #120 of 2,977 Restaurants in Seville
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$5 - US$29
Description: The entry of Pelayo bar indicates the exact point where the top of Giralda could fall. There are two halls, one mix of avant-garde with New York and one mix of taurine room with Blade Runner. Both are connected by a vertical garden that hide the kitchen where we make the "Tapas".

On a food tour the previous night we noticed that the restaurant was packed with locals and decided that we would have to try it on another night. The atmosphere and service were top notch. The food especially the croquettes and the ham & cheese plate were really good, but the paella was disappointing - the rice was almost fried.

There are a LOT of restaurants to try in Seville but this was without a doubt one of our favourites!......we ate here more than once at lunch time during the week and never struggled to get a table (managed to get the window seat twice!).

The restaurant is beautiful from the outside, modern and very clean inside with great staff!

The tapas is delicious - I think we tried most things on the menu but recommend the Paprika Squid and the Goats Cheese with Pepper Jam!

We had a snack once and lunch another time. The selection of tapas is good and we liked that they had a number of hot items. We found an interesting beer as well.

The place looks very interesting and inviting.

We hadn't booked but turned up at just after 8 on a Saturday and got the last table - it gets really busy after that so come early if you can. The atmosphere and feel of the place is great, it has a really good selection of wine, and the food was pretty good, authentic and unfussy. There were quite a few families and locals too so very welcoming for all a groups

While the standard tapas offerings don’t vary all that much from restaurant to restaurant especially around the Cathedral area, (I.e fried fish, oxtail stew, egg, vegetable or potato dishes), the range of quality and service do vary wildly. On our weeks holiday in Sevilla we experienced everything from below-average to stellar tapas, and have gathered several reference points now. This place is definitely on the list of our very short “must-go” list, I wish we would have found it the first night in Seville, because I’m quite certain we would have returned another time.

We ordered Iberico cheeks in potato foam, which my dining partner and I nearly fenced with our forks over who would get the last bite. It was delicious. Ditto for the cod confit with eel, loin fish with mayo, and grilled octopus.
The portions were nicely sized and the right temperature.

Two cervezas and two vino tintos later, we were happy campers. The service was extraordinary for Seville, with the staff clearly working as a well-trained team to assure that everyone is provided with prompt, and most importantly friendly service. The night we dined, our young and efficient waitress (who spoke excellent English) greeted us with smiles and laughs that masked the craziness of the work that was going on behind the scenes to make this operation really noteworthy. It was a bit loud for my liking, but we managed. We got there early enough to nab a table without reservations. Highly recommended for food and service, and the smiles.
