The Church of Nuestra Señora del Portillo was built between 1702 and 1731 and was the work of Jose Borgas and Gaspar Serrano. During the War of Independence it was damaged because it was located in the city wall at the Puerta del Portillo. The church was reconstructed in 1827 with a Neoclassic façade, and this was the work of Jose de Yarza Miñana.
The Chapel of the Annunciation is impressive and contains the mausoleum of the heroines of the siege of Zaragoza. Agustina Zaragoza was the most famous female fighter against the French invasion.
