We stayed here one night. We got off the Bilbao and wanted a stop before we travelled on to Galicia. This is a perfect spot as it is just of the motorway and is easy to find (if you have sat nav). Our room was spacious with beautiful antique furniture and efficient air conditioning. There are beautiful grounds. They do not serve dinner but there is a sideria about 200 metres to the left of the hotel as you come out of the gates. It is not marked as a restaurant but opens about 7.30pm, beware the portions are huge! Breakfast in the hotel was good and plentiful. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area and recommend it.

Excellent hotel with traditional interior and lovely large garden. Countryside location and feel but only 20 mins from the port. Sat nav took us direc to the front gate. Friendly, welcoming and a good breakfast. 5 mins in the car to a good restaurant.

A peaceful and beautifully decorated family mansion with a wonderful terrace and gardens and the perfect place to stay before getting on the ferry at Santander to return home. Our room was on the ground floor and close to the breakfast room. There are no facilities for evening meals though there are several restaurants within walking distance. There are no pavements so care is needed at night. Our room was beautifully decorated and there was a mini bar and tea & coffee making facilities. The owner's son was very attentive and we highly recommend this property.

Thank you very much for taking the time to rate our hotel. Always a pleasure to read reviews from satisfied customers. As commented in the hotel did not have lunch or dinner service, but eighty meters there is a restaurant and four other just over a mile.

Stayed two nights after arriving on ferry so that we could spend a day in Gijon before touring Northern Spain. Delighted with Hotel Quinta Duro, beautiful house, obviously well cared-for, the hotel was spotless, rooms beautifully appointed, excellent facilities and the gardens are divine. Carlos and his son Jesus were so helpful, without being obtrusive, and gave us plenty of good advice about how to spend our limited time in Gijon. The buffet breakfast was a perfect start to the day and as a coeliac, there were plenty of naturally gluten-free options - cheeses, hams, yoghurts, fruits, although some decent gluten-free bread or rice cakes would have been very welcome. I heartily recommend this hotel, and I heartily recommend Gijon as a place to spend time. Wasn't expecting much from a port city but was won over by the fresh, vibrant feel, the attempts to develop tourism in a sustainable way, the beautiful old town (Cimadevilla) and numerous other attractions, the stunning Universidad Laboral in particular along with the neighbouring Jardin Botanico Atlantico If you find yourself passing through Gijon en route to and from the ferry port, do spend some time here and definitely book Hotel Quinta Duro.

We loved this hotel. Great value. We had to get two rooms because of our kids, but even then, prices were reasonable. I would definitely return! You feel like you are stepping back in history staying here. Breakfast was also great

We chose this hotel because it had free parking which is in short supply in the town of Gijon, and as we were arriving late off the LD ferry from Poole we hoped it would be easy to find. It is a bit off the beaten track but there are signs to it on some junctions. We were greeted and shown to our room by the owner, and he also advised us of a nearby restaurant, which was quite rustic but was enough for our needs. The room was extremely clean and warm with a large bathroom containing everything and more that you might need in the way of toiletries, and there were tea/coffee making facilities too! (other European hotels take note!). The furniture was genuinely antique of great quality and the large bed was comfortable. Breakfast in the beautiful dining room (complete with huge family portraits) was very good with a great selection from cereal to cheesecake! The owner speaks excellent English and was very helpful and interesting, telling us of his family history. The grounds are stunning, with lovely views, made us wish we could stay and have afternoon tea on the terrace.

Room Tip: We had an upstairs front room with lovely views but they all looked nice.
