When we visited there was an excellent contemporary temporary exhibition on the ground floor. We also enjoyed the work on the second floor which covered the period from end of 19th century to mid 20th century or thereabouts.

I should start off by saying this museum is free to enter. Woohoo! There are very impressive works of art located inside and the building is very beautiful. You don't need a lot of time to see the whole museum because it's actually pretty small, I would probably say an hour would be enough time to see everything...maybe 1.5 hours. Oviedo is a very pretty city and honestly I would recommend this museum on a rainy day or if you had some time to kill. It wasn't overly impressive but definitely worth a visit if someone has the time.

Here are the times for the museum:
September 1 - June 30th
Monday CLOSED
Tuesday -Friday 10:30-14:00 and 16:30-20:30
Saturday 11:30-14:00 and 17:00-20:00
Sunday and holidays 11:30-14:30

Amazed entry was free into this gallery. The building itself was beautiful let alone the art exhibition which included works from Goya, Dali, Picasso and Sorolla. If visiting Oviedo, don't miss it!

Nice paintings, some of them from famous authors like Picasso, Dali, Murillo, El Greco, José de Ribera,Sorolla, and many others. It's free.

We spent an hour or two at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias during our visit to Oviedo in July. We were amazed by the collection - especially considering that it has only been open since 1980. As other reviewers noted, it is mostly Spanish painters - with an emphasis on those from Asturias. It has 2 or 3 floors, and is fairly well laid out - in an old mansion.

Yes, the guards are present, walking constantly through the galleries. However, I never found them to be overbearing - in fact, they were quite helpful in answering questions. There doesn't appear to be any electronic security, so a visible presence is probably prudent.

I thought there were some quite remarkable works, and some more mundane. In all, it was a good way to spend an hour or so, and it was free after all!
