We spent one week in this hotel and it was very comfortable and peaceful, the staff are helpful and friendly and the breakfast is good but the same every day . The location is perfect for exploring the various tapas bars and restaurants just a short walk away , it is a comfortable walk to the old part of Oviedo and all in all a very good choice if hotel to stay excellent value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms in the inner courtyard are very quiet.

Hotel Carreno is very to both the bus and train stations and only half a block behind the massive Tryp hotel. At 49 euro a night WITH breakfast, this was considerably cheaper than the Tryp and far more intimate. The staff are very friendly and the accomodations are EXCELLENT for a 2-star facility. Breakfast is bountiful in Spanish terms and the coffee is made to order -- so you get what you want.

Second time here. Same as last time. Good location, good staff, nice rooms. Carmen recommended a sideria El Valle. Brilliant place. Great food wine and cidre. Staff lovely. Oviedo is a rare jewel, we will have to return and explore more of the city and region. The cheeses are spectacular!

Oviedo is not the easiest place to navigate around and the hotel did not appear to be signposted. Its location near the rail/bus station, and15 minutes walk from the Cathedral, makes it a sound choice, and there's underground parking available at extra cost. Rooms are comfortable and did not suffer from noise for being in vicinity road / rail. Air con is available but you have to ask at reception for it to be activated. Service was friendly, welcoming and efficient. Buffet breakfast was fairly standard in its provision.
Oviedo on a Sunday night does not offer much choice for those seeking a restaurant style meal, and the bars too were quiet, unlike on other nights of the week when things apparently are more lively.

Friendly staff with very good English.

Room was on the small side but adequate with good air conditioning.

If you're driving come in on the AS 2 from the Gijon direction if at all possible, it makes life much simpler as Oviedo is horrible to drive and navigate in. When the AS 2 ends you just need to turn right as soon as possible to cross the railway and you'll be very close to the hotel. The advantage of this hotel is than you don't need to touch the city centre but it's very close on foot. The old city is a bit more of a trek and navigating on foot isn't easy either. They just don't seem to do signs here.

Personally I wouldn't stay in Oviedo again, though the cider street is very lively at night and Asturian cider is very good.

Stayed here with my partner for a week in May 2013 to visit a friend in Oviedo. Hotel is well-located: only a 5-minute walk to the main shopping district, 2 minutes from the train and coach stations, and near two supermarkets.

Neither I, nor my partner, had any Spanish, so found it a bit difficult communicating with staff, particularly the night porter who was on desk when we checked in! Thankfully our friend could translate! Having said that, staff were very friendly and more than happy to help us.

Despite having paid for breakfast, we only had it once, favouring instead a trip to the supermarket, Alimerka, around the corner to buy fresh bread, ham and cheese. The Spanish don't seem to do the whole breakfast thing; instead, they have very late dinners (it wasn't unusual for us to eat at 11pm). The breakfast served in the hotel consisted of cheap orange juice and processed yoghurts (maybe it's a cultural thing!)

The room was small, but perfectly adequate for what we wanted, i.e. somewhere to sleep, and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable, but the housekeeping staff didn't change the sheets for the entire week, and considering it was warm and humid at the time (at least for an Irish person!), the sheets smelled a bit by the end (disgusting, I know, but I thought I'd give you lovely people the heads up!) There was a flat-screen TV on the wall, which had no English channels (normally you get at least CNN or BBC World Service in European hotels).

Bathroom was small, but again, fulfilled our needs. Shower had fantastic pressure and was great after a long day of walking around in the sun.

Overall, I'd return to Hotel Carreno!

If you come to Oviedo, do make sure to have a day trip to Gijón, a lovely seaside city about 30 mins away. Return train is only €6.00. There are some fantastic places to eat and drink in Oviedo too, make sure you wander aimlessly for a few hours in the city centre to discover them! Just make sure you bring a good phrasebook/dictionary. We found that very few locals, including young people, spoke English. Having said that, they were very friendly, and were enthusiastic to understand what you were saying! I'd advise against randomly ordering things from menus you don't understand--we almost ordered octopus ("pulpo"), not something we expected!
