“Great location and staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2011

I stayed for just 1 night in September 2011. I booked it through the SLH group of which I am a member. As a result I was upgraded to a better room and they included a free breakfast. The room was very large (bedroom, hallway and large bathroom/shower) but a strange colour scheme, black and silver. Also included were a ipod docking station/speakers, safe, free minibar and the biggest bed I think I have ever had. In fact the bed was as big as my room was the previous night (single room in Niza, SanSebastian). There was an amazing shower however so powerful & high tech I almost was knocked over and couldnt figure out how to use it! There was a nice quiet atomosphere and tasteful furnishings throughout the hotel and a very professional receptionist with excellent english. A computer is available in the foyer for guests and when this was out of action they kindly offered me another in staff area. The breakfast room was nicely decorated (see photo) however lacking in atmosphere as I was the only diner on the Saturday morning. A short walk to the Guggenheim and nearest tram stop. Very good value if you book on their website. Recommended.

Room Tip: If you are a member of SLH Group you will be upgraded and/or free breakfast.

The location and the helpfulness of the staff make this the only place we'd stay in Bilbao (an underrated city that deserves a couple nights). The room was a bit small and oddly decorated but well equipped. Restaurant upstairs has closed, but the bistro off the lobby proved delightful. Both of the main museums and the Art Deco business district are an easy walk from the hotel, and the charming old section is a gentle stroll. Desk staff were friendly and justly proud of what their city has to offer. Highly recommended!

Opposite a building refurbishment scheme be prepared to be woken early by a hammer drill or disc cutter. Rooms are small badly decorated with black ceilings and overpowering wallpaper.Breakfast is poor and the cooked option from the kitchen is unacceptable,The restaurant is closed and the bar cafe has taken over this roll but does not open until 20.00 hrs in the evening if you need to eat before going to the airport -tough.All in all the Basques in our opinion do not do tourism or service, few people speak English, even in a five star hotel!Far better booking with a big chain name overall. The Guggenheim is an architectural masterpiece,a far better experience than the exhibits but overall not worth visiting Bilbao to see.

Room Tip: don't book this hotel it needs to close and be refurbished and re opened with properly trained s...

The welcome is good with Concierge Service, Valet Parking and a smiling, multilingual, reception. Rooms clean and spacious with superb bathroom - but expensive wi-fi, we did without, going to a nearby tapas restaurant that had free wi-fi. Centrally located it is good value, but difficult to find within the one way system - thank you for GPS which took us straight there. Is not a 5 star hotel more 3+ or 4 at the most. Apart from the wi-fi, the restaurant does not open for dinner until late. Business people and weary travellers look for a more open restaurant outside of hours - bar snacks are not adequate especially with early nights, early check-outs and/or late arrivals. Overall, we would recommend this hotel and will stay in the future for a comfortable sleep, excellent presentation and superb welcome.

Room Tip: Major renovations were going on at the building across the road at the front with early starts and l...

There are two Hotel Ercillas in Bilbao both belong to the same chain but If you ask directions for Hotel Ercilla everyone will point you towards the modern one which sits in the opposite direction from the other older one. You have to ask for "Hotel Lopez de Harold" instead. It's a far cry from it's modern sister. The location is okay - a bit hidden and hard to find. The rooms could use some improvements but overall not bad - largest safe in a room, free minibar drinks and snacks, and a very helpful staff make this hotel. There are several grocery and fruit stores nearby if you don't want to pay the 12€ breakfast. There is also a nice gym (there's not much to do in Bilbao besides the Guggenheim) down the street. Next time I will stay in San Sebastian and take a day trip to Bilbao. Hotel charges an outrageous 15€ a day for wifi and has a free computer with Internet access in the lobby.

Room Tip: Stay in San Sebastian and take a bus to Bilbao

This hotel is perfectly located for culture, shopping, siteseeing, night life and dining. The staff - mainly the reception staff - is very friendly and are always available to help. On the downside, the room had several problems: the carpet was stained as one of the couches, the window handle was broken, you had to fight with the cistern to make it stop dripping, the fridge had always some water on the bottom. One of the nights, the bed sheet had a hole. Wi-fi costs 9 eur per hour and 15 eur per day. It is not a SLH Standard Hotel, for sure!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back seem to be the worst

A very well located hotel, within easy walking distance of the downtown, the old town and the Guggenheim museum, all just minutes away.
The room was tired and needed freshen up,the beds were comfortable with a nice big bathroom.
On the downside, the safe didn't work, the cistern continuously dripped and one of the lights flickered continuously -- not really good enough for " one of the leading small hotels of the world"
while on that subject no free wifi is pretty poor for a hotel that claims to be in that group.
On the plus side the restuarant offer of the "plate of the day" was exceptional, high quality food
at a very affordable price

Room Tip: Surely there must be some returned rooms in this hotel, and if there were then our opinion would go u...
