“OK location”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

Turned out to be quite a good location being a short walk to the old town with its restaurants and bars and just across the road from the tram terminus to get to the Guggenheim etc. The bar and cafe in the little street the hotel is on didn't look so appealing, but we didn't try them. Although next to the old town, the hotel is modern with a modern theme. Our room was not huge but smart, clean and comfortable with all mod-cons. The guy on reception when we arrived late in the evening (after a gps guided tour of the red-light district!) was very helpful but a couple of the blokes in the morning were less on the ball. Hotel has its own carpark out the back which is handy. For the price it is a sound proposition to explore Bilbao.

The hotel has a nice location close to the old city, but is nothing more than average. We stayed there in a family room with our three kids, and the room was too small for us, though the bathroom was nice and big. The room was on the top floor in a redecorated loft, and was very hot at night even though the temperature outside was not very high. Probably would look for another hotel if i am going back to this great city. Also, the breakfast they offered was terrible, go somewhere else and have a nice breakfast in one of the many cool and inexpensive restaurants.

Room Tip: Not on the top floor.

If travelling by bus into Bilbao take the tram just outside the termibus station to Axturi where it terminates, the Hotel Sirimiri is situated very closeby (buy a one way ticket for 1.40 euros from the machine at the tram stop - ensure you validate it). We had no problems at check in, even with our limited Spanish and found the hotel to be clean, functional and comfortable. We stayed in the new part. The location is easy walking into Casco Viejo where there are numerous and busy bars and restaurants, although it is easy to get lost!. There is a small square just outside the hotel which has a couple of local bar/cafes which get the early morning sunshine - great if you don't want breakfast included in your stay. The bedroom was reasonable size and comfortable. A large (for Spanish hotels) TV screen, empty minibar which served as a fridge for our bottled water - bought from the supermarket just outside - and bathroom with a bath and over-bath shower. Towels and soap dispenser provided. Our only criticism is that there was no guest bar/lounge which you would expect from a 3 star hotel, only a lounge with a drinks machine which resembled a waiting room with sofas, but it was spacious and ideal if you want a quiet place to work, but don't bother if you are looking for a nightcap and a social drink. They did lock the front door before 11.00 pm when we returned and we had to press the buzzer 3 times before getting the attention on the night staff to let us in. OK for one or two nights but for longer stays, probably not.

Room Tip: Room 213 is in the newer part, comfortable, with large windows but it does overlook a side street wi...

This is a recently modernised hotel in the Casco Viejo, very close to the tram stop and train station Axturi. The room was very smart, although not large, with a wonderful bathroom. Even though it is very close to the 7 streets, we found it very quiet. There was no air-con in the room, which was not a problem at the end of September, but maybe in the summer? We would stay here again.

we stayed in this hotel in September 2012. A faulty shower door crashed and smashed on top of my friend. we found the hotel staff to be most unhelpful and felt they accused us of causing the problem. I had stayed there before and recommended it to many others because of the location but never again. we gave the hotel staff a chance to apologize but no. I have not been so badly treated and it spoiled our stay in Bilbao this time.

Bilbao is a nightmare of a city to drive in. Poor signage, one way streets and pedestrian walkways all make for a very confusing drive. We must have driven around for at least one hour looking for the hotel, stopping to ask for directions without any success. We finally found a gas station attendant who gave us clear driving instructions to the Guggenheim. After a very brief stop, we decided to skip the rest of the town. Somehow, we found Miraflores Avenue. My spouse just happened to see a sign for the hotel on the side of a building. Turning in, there it was near a church square. Absolute chance allowed us to find it!

The hotel was very good. The attendant spoke good English. Parking at the back of the hotel is very limited and tight. It took a while to squeeze into the parking space. Our room was a standard room, small but comfortable. It was very clean and the bathroom was well appointed. The bed was comfortable. The room was very quiet. We did not buy the breakfast but went instead to the small café near the church. It served excellent coffee and croissants at very good prices.

It is about a 45 minute walk to the Guggenheim and a 20 minute walk to the medieval area. Both are well worth visiting on foot given the driving difficulties of the city. We would recommend this hotel for its location. I suggest though it would have to be a good GPS to find it!
