“Great location and value”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

A lovely spot ideal for the Guggenheim. Dinner or breakfast on the terrace overlooking the museum, hills and river is the highlight for me.
We had a city facing room, one of the cheapest which was comfortable and roomy. Service was pleasant and the breakfast was excellent. It was a little noisy late at night from some kind of demonstration/altercation outside but this didn't spoil the stay given that breakfast was served until midday.
If you're looking for somewhere comfortable for a short stay I'd recommend this for its location.

Dear Julian T,

Thank you for the kind review. It is a pleasure for us to know that both the restaurants and the room matched with your expectations. We are sure that in spite of being an altercation outside the hotel, you could have the rest you deserved and that our breakfast on the terrace gave you enough energy to start the day.

Kind regards,

I believe the fact it be places in front of Guggenheim Museum it makes the difference.
They have a terrace very friendly and with great view. The terrace bar restaurant it is interesting to take a drink and look in a new perspective the Museum.
in lounge there is another restaurant more accessible and interesting food.
The staff is professional but distant.
The bad point is the fact there is a lot of rooms with view to the interior of the hotel.

Room Tip: exterior room

Our room looked out on the famous Puppy and the Guggenheim - it was very smart and we particularly liked the bathroom.

The Silken Gran Hotel Domine is well situated for the Metro (easy to use) and a visit to the old town is enjoyable - lots of tapas/pintxos bars, restaurants and other eating places, although its hard to beat the hotel's rooftop patio - very nice for afternoon drinks, with a lovely unobstructed view of the Guggenheim!

The service was impeccable - luggage was unloaded from the car and it was valet parked, to be returned when we checked out the following morning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the puppy!

This is a very poor example of a 5 star hotel.

There was no movie channel, only one English channel - CNN. The skirting board was off the wall, the bedsted was frayed and the temperature in the room was 90 degrees unless you had the air conditioning on full.

The staff were unhelpful and spoke only limited English - especially when I wanted something from the pharmacy.

The only upside is the location!

Dear guest,

Thank you for your feedback. We are concerned about your experience in the hotel and want to apologize for the details of yout room that you describe, and in special about the air conditioning, which has already been repaired and proved to be working properly.

As far as the Front Desk service, we might just explain that for security reasons it is forbidden to provide a guest with medications in any hospitality business, so it must be the guest who buy them himself. We are sorry if this meant an inconvenience for you but the hotel cannot break the rules even when we always try to satisfy our guests.

In any case, we trust these aspects will not be a strong reason not to choose our property again in the future as we would like to have the chance to show the high quality service that characterizes our hotel. Please, feel free you contact us directly if you decided to come back to Bilbao.

Yours sincerely,

Cristina Repáraz

We were traveling here on our honeymoon and wanted to see the Guggenheim and some of what Basque country has to offer. We had a suite that faced the Guggenheim and it was the perfect view.

The staff, especially the concierge and door staff, were extremely helpful and wonderful.

Our only complain would be that the funky furniture in the room was not the right scale and we were constantly bumping into or stepping over it - even before the wine filled meals! Bathroom and dressing area was huge and wonderful, though.

Room Tip: I would not want to stay here if we didn't have the view of the Guggenheim and the river.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your review. Our team, and in particular our bellmen and concierge staff, appreciate your kind words, which are a drive to continue working hard.

It is a pleasure to read that the city also attracted you and you had such a pleasant stay. We have also passed your comments about the furniture, designed by Javier Mariscal, to our Management. Thank you for this feedback.

This hotel was a nice, modern hotel. We had a room with a view of the guggenheim, which was nice. I have heard some of the other rooms without a view are much smaller and not as nice. Overall, it was clean and comfortable, and the location was great. Our favourite thing was the rooftop patio - very nice for afternoon drinks, with a lovely unobstructed view of the guggenheim!

This location is superb. The staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and helpful - by far the most impressive I have encountered in some time (and I have stayed in a lot of upmarket hotels over the years!).

Hotel was easy to find, they parked the car for us on arrival, then rather than use a luggage room on check out they offered to put our luggage in our car and then drove the car to the front door when we were ready.

Rooms were as in the photos - very good and good value. We booked one regular double and one superior room with a view looking at the Guggenheim. We were on level 5 which you need to be to get a decent view.

Beware - ? - well we booked partly because of their premier restaurant on level 7 and its views to the roof of the Guggenheim. So on arrival I asked if we could go up to the terrace there for cocktails or dinner, only to be told that it was closed for several weeks every year at this time. In fact all that was open was a downstairs bar and a streetside cafeteria. The bar was fine - we enjoyed a drink there, but the cafeteria continental breakfast at 26 Euros each sounded way too expensive to warrant trying. No one else was using the bar of cafeteria when we were around. So we were disappointed to not be able to use the Terrace and its restaurant and you should bear this in mind if booking in winter.

But everything else was spot on. Would absolutely recommend it as a quality hotel destination - the good value is an added bonus !

Tip - we had a great breakfast for three at the Guggenheim cafe across the road (less than twenty Euros for three) and which has is own entrance, opens earlier than the main museum and even does reasonable coffee !

Dear guest,

Greetings from the Silken Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao! We appreciate the kind words you dedicated to our hotel and, particularly, to our staff, as this will motivate us to keep working on the same line.

We are very sorry that you were not able to enjoy our restaurant on the terrace, but we would like to clarify that this is an exceptional situation as we are renewing the image and the menus, so we have been in the need to close the restaurant for a month until the reopening on the 10th February 1014. Apart from this winter, our Doma is open every day along the year for lunch and dinner (including January).

For this reason, we would like to see you here again as we are sure you would be able to enjoy the terrace as much as you had imagined. Please, feel free to contact us directly if you decided to come back to Bilbao in the future.

Kindest regards,

Cristina Repáraz
