Most has already been said. The Melia Bilbao is well located and offers quiet, well-equipped rooms, an excellent breakfast buffet and nice rooftop pool and gym facilities. We had a very comfortable 3 night stay. Disappointing features were the internet connection which was a great source of irritation and the lack of any personal touch. In our experience the reception staff were helpful but not particularly warm. Overall we found this hotel to be good value for money - don't skimp on the breakfast, it is well worth the price! With a park right behind this is also a nice relaxing location in summer we imagine.

We had booked a city trip to Bilbao and stayed 3 nights
Good location, close to the river, a good 5 minute walk from the Guggenheim and about 20 minutes walking from the Old Town. Tram stations nearby, and bus/metro stations within walking distance. A very quiet neighbourhood, I cannot imagine any room having noise from traffic.
Excellent service, even though, as others have remarked, there is no assistance outside for luggage, and no concierge.
Great rooms, spacious and clean. Large bathroom for European cities standards. Very comfortable beds. Very large windows, with a view (park or river), with electrical shades operated from the bedside (it took us a while to find the buttons though ...). Turndown service, except on Sunday nights (it was Easter, so maybe ...). Well equipped gym.
Excellent breakfast.
All by all a very good hotel. Personally, I would rate it as a high-end 4-star.

I stayed at the Melia Bilbao early March 2014 for 3 nights. I arrived after midnight, and unfortunately my room was not ready... When I got my key (just a few minutes later), I asked if it was on the first floor, because the number started with '1', but no, it was on the 10th floor. I got a fantastic upgrade to a great suite on the top floor, with a gorgeous sight on the (rainy and stormy) river and the Guggenheim museum, so I didn't mind at all that I had to wait a bit for my room! I had a fantastic stay!! Thanks to the staff for the nice surprise!

The Bilbao Melia, an imposing building not too far from the city centre, is a very well run establishment. Room are spacious and very clean if a little spartan in their appearance, but the marble bathrooms are splendid with large bath and separate shower. The grid-like windows have electric shades and blackouts which work efficiently. The staff in the hotel are smart in appearance, welcoming and very accomplished. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and varied with even a glass of cava for those that wish. My only complaint about the hotel is in terms of the wifi, which is free, but rather inconstant - at least in the bedroom. All in all, though, this is a very impressive hotel and one which is very very good value for its charges.

Room Tip: The rooms on the park side of the hotel have great views

Good hotel, but not in the 5 star category as a 5 star category normally is.
The entrance outside is "cheap" and doesnot look like class hotel. There was no waiter at the front door. Nobody for taking care of luguage
I had the disavantage, there was a party just till late night, so it was noisy on the room by music.
The environment was proper and from small distance of the city center

Frist off, there is air conditioning at this hotel which is really, really wonderful! The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the food was great. Close to restaurants and the Guggenheim. Very much enjoyed my stay.
