3 not so good things: Reception was a little slow on checkout, the infinity pool doesnt get the sun & the bedroom had 2 singles instead of a double.

All else was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were adequate, bathroom had good toiletries. The bar and restaurant are excellent. Location is near to the bus station which is also nice. I'd stay here again if in Bilbao.

After traveling through Spain during the month of June, this hotel has been the best ! We were offered an upgrade for 35 Euros at checkin, we are in a Grand Suite that has an amazing view and it is very spacious. Great location, great price and service is great ! Highly recommend it.
The bed is very comfortable.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Hotel is in an excellent location just a minutes walk from the Guggenheim museum and 15-20 minute walk to the main shopping street. Double room was nice, and quiet too. Fabulous bathroom. Found the bed and pillows slightly uncomfortable. No tea/coffee facilities in the room which is a big let down. Breakfast was very good with excellent choice of cold foods including smoked salmon. Would have been nice to have had a slightly wider choice of hot food but it was fine all the same. Hotel were doing an offer of €10 free each night to spend in the hotel which was good.

The Melia chain is very popular in Spain, as it offers good quality hotels but at reasonably modest prices (at least by London standards!). The Bilbao Melia is no exception - fairly corporate but well located and overlooking both the river and some well kept gardens. The atrium sets the scene for a very modern hotel and is cool and sensitively lit. Our room was not the most pricey but nevertheless large with a huge comfortable bed and soft pillows. Our bathroom, too, was sizeable with both bath and walk in shower, and his and hers basins. Only one quibble - one bar of soap for two nights - not good enough. Oh, and only one bathrobe.

We stayed at the Melia on a weekend trip with friends. It's a big plush hotel. It's very easy to get to from the airport (and I do recommend the airport bus, which is much cheaper than a taxi and almost as quick). It's also very handy for the new tram, which takes you right into town and the old town. The Guggenheim is one stop, or a short riverside walk away. Our rooms were large and well designed. We did not eat here as breakfast looked pricey, although the restaurant has good reviews. Just one downside. The vast central area does tend to exaggerate noise in the foyer. Some late night revellers sounded like the place had been invaded by a full male voice choir, intent on making everyone up.

Room Tip: Away from the atrium if possible.

We stayed in a premium double room with balcony on the 10th floor. The room is quiet even though it is facing the shopping centre and side street. Great views from the balcony where you can sit and enjoy. The tram stop is about a 5 minute or less walk and the Guggenheim is very close also. The river run along near the tram line and is a lovely walk, day or night and feels very safe.
The room comprised of a comfortable king size bed, 2 long large pillows, tv, writing desk and bar fridge. The bathroom has a double vanity and shaving mirror. Walking through a glass door, you enter a wet room comprising a shower and bath. The shower head was great pressure and water lovely and hot. Air-conditioning works fine and is room controlled.
Buffet breakfast was included in our price and consisted of cereals, cold meats, fruits, hot foods, pastries, tea & coffee, juices etc... a great range to please everyone.
Check in was easy and friendly service staff are helpful. We didn't eat at the restaurant so I can comment. The bar, Q Bar, is very modern and serve all types of drinks with tapas/nibbles.
The hotel is in a great location, everything is in walking distance and Bilbao is easy to get around. As stated earlier, there is a shopping centre across the road and a lovely large park at the back of the hotel where the breakfast room looks out onto.
I would recommend staying at this hotel for your visit to Bilbao.

Great location close to the tram in the new part of Bilbao. By tram only 15 min. away from the old town, it takes only 30 min. walking to get there as well. Very comfortable rooms with a spacious bathroom, good beds and good wifi. The restaurant in the hotel serves good food at a reasonable price (3 course menu: 20 euro). Breakfast is super. There is a great (but small) outdoor swimming pool on the 6th floor and a sauna, which is nice to relax at night. The Euskalduna congress centre is just across the street. The Guggenheim museum is only 5 min. walking away as well as the main shopping street. You can easily visit everything on foot. Bilbao is a nice compact, very clean city which is worth a visit.
