“Fabulous hotel! fantastic customer service!”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 via mobile

What a fabulous hotel! Excellent location, near to lots of the attractions of Bilbao, very clean, delicious breakfast and the best customer care by hotel staff I have ever encountered, they made our stay so very special by upgrading my mothers room as it was her birthday... Thank you to all the wonderful staff for a fantastic stay.

Having stayed here in summer 2012 I decided to return for five nights with my partner. On booking I had requested a large double room but on arrival we were given a small room with a very small double bed. The room was also boiling and on investigation we discovered that the air con only blew out hot air. On requesting a change of room we were given what I had originally asked for without issue but the receptionist insisted that the air con in the whole hotel was hot in winter and cold in summer! Rubbish. We also had breakfast included. Although the variety was good, they seemed understaffed to such a point that replenishments were few and far between. Also there was a sign on each table stating a fresh fried breakfast could be requested with pleasure yet on asking we had to insist, even pointing to the card on the table stating this service. The waitress pointed at the already cold bacon and egg on the buffet bar as if to say we should have had that! Location cannot be moaned about but the overall customer care and service can be. My advice: try petit palace up the road!

This modern hotel is located right at the river across the Guggenheim museum, great location,
The room are spacious, with great beds and beautiful bathrooms, there is a parking right under the hotel which is great, the breakfast buffet was un spanish, so many choices, a wonderful hotel, where we will love to come back next time in beautiful Bilbao

Room Tip: Request an upgrade for a riverview premium room formonly 13 euros per night, well worth it!

Location is super.
Lots to do and places to eat nearby.
Take the nearby underground rack and pinion railway to the top of the hill for a really good view over Bilbao.
The hotel has sacrificed comfort for design - I thought that I was fairly technical but I never did figure out how to make coffee in the room. The coffee maker looked good but you need a Phd to operate it - what's wrong with a kettle? This also applied in the breakfast restaurant but at least there was someone to ask for help.
The bathroom was stylish until you tried to use it - only then did you realize the only place to put towels was outside the bathroom door on the wash basin unit.
If you park in the hotel's underground car-park try to ensure you don't get obstructed on the ramp - it's long, steep and, if you take too long you will get stopped by the barrier at the top.
All things considered, the Hesperia has many redeeming features, especially the location, but there are better hotels in Bilbao in the same price category. I wonder if the Hesperia management ever stay overnight in their own guest rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room overlooking the river

We visited Bilbao with a group of friends and chose to stay at the Hesperia Bilbao due to it's proximity to the Guggenheim Museum and the reviews the hotel has. The Hesperia is part of the NH Hotel chain, it was our first time staying with the chain but we were pleasantly surprised.

We checked into the hotel at around 4pm and were met by a friendly receptionist, our group had been allocated adjoining rooms (which was nice). The first impression of the hotel was good, the lobby is clean, modern and bustling with people coming and going. We didn't eat in the hotel but it appeared that there is at least two restaurants in the lobby area. The hotels communal areas were nice, with the lift lobby on each floor had a little seating area and a phone.

Our room was spacious, clean and all of the furniture was well kept and maintained. The bathroom was large and the overall space was more than enough for two people for a weekend. We had booked a double room, but the double bed consisted of two single beds pushed together- but it was comfortable non the less. The room had a nice view of the streets below, and there was no noise disturbance from below.

One of the main drawing points of the hotel is it's location, the hotel is on the opposite side of the river to the Guggenheim; but the hotel almost faces it... it's less than a 10 minute walk.

The service we encountered was ok... but just ok. The staff didn't seem particularly customer focussed. I would stay in the Hesperia again, and would recommend it to friends.

We stayed here for a weekend at the end of January and upgraded to a front facing room on arrival having read many of the reviews here. It was worth it for the views and the space. We had a wonderful time, even with the wet weather.
Pros: Free wifi and satellite TV with the option to watch in english.
Cons: Expensive restaurant, but plenty of great little cafes and restaurants nearby.

This hotel is perfectly located on the river and a 7 minutes walk away from the Guggenheim on the opposite bank. Rooms (ask for an upgrade to a river view) are spacious and clean with comfortable beds. If you like jazz stay over a weekend for a live band.
Outside, the old town is full of charm and great bars...try Muga Bar...for great pintxos, nicer than tapas.
Inside, drinks are reasonably priced and bar snacks are available. The restaurant is more than acceptable.

Room Tip: River facing is without a doubt well worthwhile.
