“Nice bistrot”
Reviewed 10 May 2011

This small restaurant is just a stone´s throw away from Bilbao Old Quarter, not he most exciting area but don´t be put off, inside is very warm and inviting. We made our reservation for 2:00 and the restaurant was literally empty, guest started to arrive much later and by the time we were done, after a bottle of good Frenh wine it filled up with locals.Everything was spotlessly clean.Prices were very reasonable too.

“A worrying night!”
Reviewed 9 October 2010

a Table is behind the station. I booked in the afternoon, arrived just before 8.30pm, was admitted, and the door locked behind me! A little way up the street several young men were hanging about - this gathering grew as the evening progressed. I ordered the Gournet menu - each dish being accompanied by a glass of wine. The first glass was superb, a delicious German white. Edith Piaf sang in the background, then they played 'Little Jimmy Brown' - very nostalgic...I was the only diner, the food was mediocre, mainly cold fish pate and the like, with a duck leg in sauce for the 'main course'. The longer I was there, the more was I disappointed, and, frankly, worried. I ordered a cab and was relieved to leave the area! Was this just an 'off' night? Was something going on? Spanish unrest, perhaps, on Tuesday 7th September? Not a jolly night! Apart from this, I loved Bilbao, and will return next year. Think I'll give a table a miss, however!

“Urban Location, Franco-Basque menu”
Reviewed 14 August 2010

Behind the train station in Bilbao, but easily accessible along the waterfront (the other route along the station felt a bit sketchy)... Duck based Frenco-Basque menu... Neighborhood a bit dark and removed, reminiscent of a weekday late night in the LES of NYC. Food was pleasantly surprising, the menu very interesting, and plenty of quality Rioja to go around. Overall I feel Bilbao, especially away from the Guggenheim, is still in transition, and this is a restaurant to prove it. If you are wanting the ritz and service stick closer to the museum area otherwise if you want to contribute to the city and get another perspective try A Table. It represents a hardworking chef trying to make their city better.
