Everyone has pointed out the excellent location of the Hostel, and I'll add to that. It is a brilliant location, right in the heart of the old city. My partner was a bit hesitant about a hostel and shared bathrooms but that worked out pretty okay at the end of the day.
We had Bedroom 1, with a small balcony, which meant some great light but on the downside it also meant a lot of noise from the street, but we were in San Seb in the middle of 'Big Week' and noise was part and parcel of the package till 2.30-3AM (and we were there mid-week) - after all we did go see the 51st San Sebastian International fireworks festival on the beachfront and boy, that was loud! If you close the door totally, at the cost of some ventilation you can cut out most of the noise.
Great and helpful staff - thanks Landon and Fatima. And we met some great people at Kaixo and in Donostia.

Room Tip: Take a room with a street view if you go as a couple, noise or not, you'll appreciate the fresh...

Right smack in the middle of San Sebastian's historical centre. The rooms are pretty barren, just the beds, nothing else; although some of the other ones seemed to have a bit more furniture. It would be nice to have a little table at least. The kitchen is well equipped and everything is very clean. The staff downstairs is also extremely friendly and helpful. There are only 2 bathrooms (with shower) though, so you often have to wait to use it in the morning or to take a shower. It's not a problem any other time though. I'd love to go back and stay there again. It is great value for the money in such an expensive city. Despite the cost, San Sebastian is just spectacular and worth the visit! After visiting most of Spain, I must say it's in my top 3 most beautiful cities in the country.

The location of this place is fantastic, right in the middle of all the tapas bars, and close enough to the beach and also a supermarket. We stayed in a double room which was fantastic and roomy, but it was a bit noisy one night from the bars downstairs as our room was above the street. We actually tried to stay an extra night but the place was booked out. It has good facilities, and modern share kitchen. If you are driving you cant actually drive up to the door as it is off a mall type street, we did find the place quite easily though. Check in was easy, we just has to arrange to meet in the bar below the accommodation. They were friendly enough and gave us some good ideas of where to go around the area.

Stayed 3 nights in Kaixo Hostel with my girlfriend in a double room (so can't comment on the dorm room experience). The hostel is in an excellent location in the old town and only a short walk from the main beach and surf beach- super convenient! The hostel is good quality, modern, clean and well maintained by Jon and his staff. There were only 2 shortfalls for the duration of the stay. Firstly, there are only 2 ensuite bathrooms for what must be 12 or more beds...this shouldn't be an issue except for the fact that people waiting to quickly use the toilet may have wait for others to finish using the shower. This is only a problem first thing in the morning but still a small annoyance. The other issue was the air conditioner which we couldn't operate on the final night of our stay- either it didn't work or was extremely difficult to program (only an issue in the summer months but not ideal given that the temperature in San Sebastian stays quite warm well into the early hours of the morning)

We stayed with 11 people at Kaixo. Good value for the price! Very clean and most rooms are very spacious. Unfortunately something went wrong with our booking (2 singles instead of 1 double), but the very helpful staff (thanks Fatima) helped us out. Kaixo Hostel is right where the action is. Pinxtos, wine and beach all within walking distance. Looking for just a place to sleep with no frills, Kaixo is it!

Room Tip: Rooms at street-side are more spacious and more noisy.

Very nice, clean and comfortable. Nice laid back atmosphere. Activities offered, helpful hosts. Great location. Love san sebastian. We stayed in a few rooms because they messed up our booking a bit, but they were all nice and we got a private room one night rather than a shared rrom. Iratxo downstairs was good too, some cheap beakfast tapas avaialble and drinks at night.

Finally found a hostel that has a balance between apartment/backpacker feel. I stayed three nights and every day the apartment was cleaned spotless. The kitchen is very modern with everything you need to cook nice meals, and to share around the large kitchen table and meet other travelers (closes at 11pm). The staff was friendly and helpful, also offered hiking/biking/tapas tours. A group of us went out on a Tapas tour lead by a German and American who really knew the city, where to go for the best tapas and had interesting things to say about the culture and history.

Room Tip: individuals have ac rooms.
