“Perfect location and excellent host!”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Pension Regil is in a great location, just a minute walk to the beach and less than 5 minutes to Old Town. We arrived by train and walked to the Pension in about 15 minutes. Inaki is a wonderful host, providing excellent recommendations! Upon our departure, he presented us with a gift. The Pension is basic and has all the necessities for enjoying your time in San Sebastian. We had a small balcony that looked over the street; some noise in the evening, but nothing that kept us awake. I recommend this Pension for its great location and friendly host. Thank you again, Inaki!

It was just perfect for us. We had a double bed, our own bathroom and tv and free wifi. Iñaki the host was extremely friendly and helpful with places to go and things to do. The location is right in the middle of town, 5 minutes walk to the beach. There are plenty of shops and places to eat right by the pension. I would definitely recommend. We loved our stay here !

The owner is extremely likeable and the pension is clean and cozy. As you would expect it is not grand nor has large rooms however this is a pension not a hotel.

Located a stones throw from the sea front parking can also be arranged with a discount by the owner, so let him know when you are booking and collect the ticket from him before you park. Parking is St Sebastian is tricky in the centre however the underground car parks will have space. With the discount we paid 16.50 euros for 24 hour parking around the corner from the pension.

I have seen a few rooms now and would recommend rooms next to the street or the courtyard (front or back).

Perfect for couples and friends.

The pension was perfect!

We stayed in 2 single bed room with in-suite bathroom. The room and bathroom were very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The shower had excellent pressure and the room and bathroom had heaters. The room faced the street and had double french doors that led to a little balcony. We didn't get bothered by any street noise.

Inaki, the host was excellent. He was super sweet and helpful. I made the mistake to reserve a day later than when I actually arrived. He helped me find another location to stay for the first night, even though it was my error. The other location was just as nice and clean. He even walked with us there which was a couple of streets away, helped us with our luggage and made sure we were ok.

The location is excellent. Down the street there is a great place for breakfast and parking. You are walking distance from all of the major places to see and to the old part of town which has a ton of locations for pinxtos.

I absolutely loved it and would go back.

Great central location for quick access to Casco Viejo, Mt Urgull and La Concha. There are many places to eat and shop nearby. Our room was very clean and our host, Iñaki, was exceptional! Very helpful and kind and was a great host. We would stay here again without question.

We enjoyed our stay at Pension Regil very much. Inaki was a genuinely warm and helpful host with lots of good recommendations of pintxos bars, etc. (La Cuchara de San Telmo had amazingly tender carrilleras - beef cheeks cooked in wine sauce.) Our room was basic with a small bathroom but it was kept immaculately clean. There was no A/C so we kept our window open at night which meant we had quite a bit of outside noise. There was a small fan available but we preferred the open window. The location was great, close to the waterfront and an easy walk to the old town. We really liked the Pension Regil for the hospitality, location and price. The only downside is the lack of A/C which could be a problem in the heat of the summer.

A city pension, almost by definition, will probably:
- be old
- will not have ground floor accommodation
- will not have an elevator
- will not have on-site parking
So do not take your White Star Line portmanteaux along and expect to be ushered directly from your limo and into a 5 star suite – you are not paying for this type of service!

Pension Regil is a city pension so all the above applies.

Our courtyard facing room was small but spotlessly clean and came with a fan (no aircon), TV and Wifi (a bit intermittent but this seems to be the case in many European B&B’s). The bathroom was also pretty small so if you are an obese WASP you will find it problematic. Inaki was a most welcoming and charming host, for whom nothing was too much trouble. On arrival we were given maps of the city and details of where the major sights were and how to get to them, as well as tapas restaurant recommendations in the Old City.

Pension Regil is very central, almost diagonally across the road from the landmark 4 star Londres Hotel and about 75 metres from the beach. There are two public parking garages nearby where we left our hire car for the three days we were in Donostia-San Sebastian.

A 15 minute walk will take you to most attractions.

Highly recommended in its class.
