The room is nice – clean, spacious, quiet, comfy + our room’s balcony faces the sea; shower is nice too; they have a built-in restaurant and the set menu for dinner of three course costs about 13Euro (not incl. tax, incl. drinks though); parking – free; in the lobby there’s free internet; I also like the family-friendly environment on its premises.
I just want to highlight the location.
We were driving around in Spain and read from the reviews here that it’s very difficult to find parking in the city centre and if you do it would involve car parking that is not cheap, so we wanted to book somewhere a bit outta the centre and with free parking.
Hotel Nicol’s some 3km west of the Ondarreta Beach up on Mount Igueldo in a very quiet area. We initially wanted to leave the car at the hotel and take the bus – there’s a #16 bus and B7 connecting this area with the centre, but found the bus stop was 10 min walk away from the hotel, so we took the car down towards the centre and parked in a residential area off the Ondarreta Beach for free, and from there we walked to the Parte Vieja (old quarter). This worked on both days during our stay in San Sebastian, but of course this is the winter time and the low season may allow this and it can easily be a different picture in high season.
In general, if you have a car, Hotel Nicol’s is a good choice. If you’re not sure about driving down to the centre and trying your luck with parking in the centre, you can always leave the car at the hotel and take the bus (sorry not sure about the frequency – better check with the hotel directly).
